DEAR ARABELLA

Patrick Talbot Productions and Rathmore Productions

Three women: Jean, feeling increasingly claustrophobic in caring for her demanding mother;

Elsie, still trying, after so many years, to try and get to know the soldier husband who returned from the war a very different man;

Arabella, a widow haunted by dashed expectations and ghosts from the past.

Three tales of love, regret and loss are subtly brought together via a random act of kindness which in turn triggers an encounter on a beach which results in a life-long obsession.

Full of Marie Jones’ signature humour, Dear Arabella marvels at how the most commonplace chance encounters can impact lives in the most meaningful and enduring ways.

Denouement

A Lyric Theatre Production

Part of the Belfast International Arts Festival

It’s 2048. And it’s the end of the world.

Edel and Liam are living out the final hours in a remote Irish farmhouse at the base of a mountain. Liam frantically rat-a-tats his memories on a battered old typewriter, while Edel tries to connect with their children to say their final goodbyes.

Set against an extraordinary apocalyptic backdrop, Denouement is a funny, tragic and slightly absurd observation of what remains when everything else is gone. As the world collapses around them, Edel and Liam show the might of the human spirit as they navigate the end of the world with humour, honesty, and decades of shared history.

Intensely provocative and wonderfully witty, Denouement is both a glimpse into a dystopian future, and a moving portrait of an enduring relationship between two ordinary people. Are some things better left unsaid, even at the end?

Originally submitted to the Lyric’s New Playwrights Programme, John Morton’s Denouement captivated the selection panel so completely that it was commissioned immediately. Experience its stage debut this Autumn at the Lyric Theatre. This bold piece of new writing will stay with you long after the curtain closes.
