I’m excited to present you with our 2019 Little Book! We’ve made BIG changes to our summer camps and outdoor programs this year to ensure each girl has a fantastic experience. Whether she’s a first-time camper or a seasoned outdoor pro, we have options she’s going to love.

We have day camps, mini camps, resident (overnight) camps, and a variety of adventures, travels, and opportunities for her to select! Be sure to register online to reserve her favorite sessions and receive immediate confirmation, so your camper can be sure of her summer spot! We’re looking forward to seeing her this summer!

Camp Information What’s New You spoke, we listened! We have made many changes based on camper and parent feedback, suggestions, lessons learned, and more! As always, thank you for the ideas!

Here’s a preview of what’s new for Summer Camp 2019!

Summer Camp Staff In order to provide the best possible experience for our campers (and families), we have added additional summer staff at each camp. We are also adding more extensive pre-camp training. This will allow us to provide additional age-level activities, smaller groups, added girl planning, better parent communication and all around exceptional customer experience!

Check-In

Extended Hours Day Camp

We have revamped our check-in procedures to make them more efficient and fun! Check-in times are staggered for each session with our Counselors-in-Training (CITs) being first, so they can help with campers who arrive later. Each camp will have highly visible signs to indicate where to go for check-in. For larger sessions, the tables will be split by last name to avoid waiting in long lines. Activities will be provided for campers as staff review incoming paperwork. Once check-in is complete, staff will be available to answer any additional questions. In addition, we will retain all camper paperwork starting this summer! This means, if your camper attends the same camp property more than once during the summer, you will not need to bring your paperwork in again unless it needs to be updated. If your camper goes to another GSNI camp property, we suggest you make a copy of your paperwork before dropping it off at the first camp then bring it with you to the other camp.

Is your camper almost ready for resident camp but not quite? This year, we’re offering Extended Hours Day Camp. This is a great opportunity to allow campers to “almost” attend resident camp. They will be able to stay at camp each night (except the last day) until 8 p.m.! They will have dinner with us and attend a portion of our evening activities such as opening and closing campfires, etc. This is an optional “add-on” similar to our day camp overnight below.

Learning Outcomes and Badges We will provide parents with detailed camper learning outcomes (what girls will be able to do and know after her summer camp session) as well as badge work and outdoor skills awards earned for each session.

Classic Camp Themes for Mini-Sessions Resident camp mini-sessions will focus solely on traditional camp activities such as outdoor skills, nature, water activities, crate stacking, archery, and more. Age restrictions apply to some activities.

New Themes for Resident and Day Camp

Day Camp Overnight The Thursday overnight for day campers will be limited to 14 campers at Camp Dean. For all camps, instead of sleeping in cabins, girls will all stay together in a lodge with counselor supervision. This will make for an easier transition for first-time overnight campers.

Camper’s Choice Girls entering grades 1–3 will stay with our Counselors-in-Training (CITs) during the Camper’s Choice event. This will make it easier for them to find their way around camp and still be supervised.

Age-based Camp Sessions We have separated day and resident campers by age so younger and older campers will have more age-appropriate activities and be with girls closer to their own age.

We have many new themes this summer, based on requests from our campers!

We are offering Counselors-in-Training (CIT), day, and resident camps every week that camp is in session—this means more camps for girls to challenge themselves and have fun!

Additional Girl Planning

Counselor-in-Training Sessions new!

This summer we are incorporating more girl planning into our camps. Each camp session will begin with a planning session to determine what the girls want to do during their non-themed time at camp. If they want more/ less swimming, arts and crafts, Gaga Ball, etc. they can have it! In addition, they’ll have more cookouts, All Camp (everyone in camp participates in one large game or activity), and Camper’s Choice (each group chooses the activity they want to participate in, such as archery, crate stacking, Gaga ball, etc.) options.

Make New Friends In an effort to make the girls more comfortable at summer camp, additional programming (games and activities) are being provided at the start of each session to enable the girls and camp staff to get to know each other quicker and better. This will foster trust and help develop new friendships and lifelong bonds.

Minimal Pricing and Application Required. Leadership is core to the Girl Scout experience, and we want to make sure as many girls as possible can attend our CIT training camps, where they will learn to lead younger girls in an outdoor setting and have the opportunity to earn GSUSA’s nationally recognized CIT I and CIT II Awards. Thus, we’ve lowered the price of CIT I and CIT II camps to $150 for two weeks (register before May 1, 2019)—a savings of over $300. Our CIT A camp price has also been lowered from $305 (register before May 1, 2019) to $230—over $70 in savings.

CITs will be required to complete an application and an interview before being accepted into our CIT sessions as we want to provide extensive training and leadership opportunities to CITs and want to ensure there is a good fit. CITs completing our program will leave camp with a complete list of skills acquired and the nationally recognized CIT I or CIT II Girl Scout Leadership Award—depending on session attended.

Camp Information CIT Leadership Week Girls who have previously qualified as CITs can attend any week of camp with council approval. CITs must submit a proposal of what they would like to accomplish during their CIT Leadership Week. The plan must be approved by council before a girl will be accepted into the program.

Proposals are due at least three weeks prior to the applicable camp session. Proposal templates can be found at girlscoutsni.org/CIT.

Camp Far Horizons new! Date Change!

In recent years, summer camp at Camp Far Horizons has been the first week in August. This summer, the camp will be held the second week in July.

Camp Far Horizons new! Extended Weekend for Older Girls!

We are offering a new extended weekend for older girls! This will be the chance for our older girls to use Camp Far Horizons as a basecamp/ hangout in between off-site excursions. This will replace Family Camp this summer.

GSNI Camp Guide By request, we have created a GSNI Camp Guide to help prepare our campers and parents for the summer. This inclusive guide provides detailed information about our summer camp program to include accommodations, procedures, expectations, FAQs, and more. This will be the go-to guide for all things camp. The guide will answer questions, such as: ▶▶ How many hours will my camper spend on themes while at camp? ▶▶ What skills will my camper learn while at camp? ▶▶ How do I know if my camper is ready for camp? ▶▶ Why can’t I register my CIT for training directly online? ▶▶ And so much more…

Food This summer, we will provide additional healthy eating options for our campers and staff to include grilled foods, expanded salad bar, fresh fruit, vegetables, whole wheat bread, and homemade dishes such as pasta, soups, and chili. We will continue to provide options for those campers with food allergies, as long as we are notified at least two weeks prior to camp.

Flexible Pricing Camp program opportunities for girls are subsidized, meaning the cost of providing camp programs and operating camp is greater than the fees paid to participate. Our flexible pricing system offers families the opportunity to help cover more of the true cost of camp programs, if they are financially able.

For each session, you will see three prices: ▶▶ Level 1 is the most subsidized rate we can offer for camp. This covers approximately 60% of the direct costs of operating the camp program. If you are applying for a Campership (financial assistance), use Level 1 pricing. ▶▶ Level 2 covers some of the direct costs associated with your camper’s experience but is still a subsidized rate. ▶▶ Level 3 is closer to the true cost of operating the camp program. It includes direct costs such as food, program supplies, living supplies, and summer staff salaries. It does not include things like building and ground maintenance.

Select the fee you feel is affordable and appropriate for your family. Flexible pricing is always kept confidential and does not affect the quality of your child’s experience as all fees are for exactly the same program. The goal of offering flexible pricing options is to provide the highest quality programs possible to serve all community income levels and to preserve camp for generations to come.

Paying for Camp Camp is an amazing adventure for girls! We want to make sure all girls have the opportunity to attend camp regardless of their household income.

Thus, GSNI offers several ways to off-set the cost of camp, including: ▶▶ If you register by May 1, 2019, you can save $25 on most camp registrations! ▶▶ You can use eligible vouchers/eCodes toward any of our councilsponsored camps. However, these cannot be used toward the initial $50 non-refundable deposit. ⬥ Eligible vouchers include: ✶ Adventure Allowance ($10) for anyone in your household who renewed their 2019 Girl Scout membership online by June 15, 2018. ✶ Cookie Dough, Cashew Cash, and S’more Dough (which Individually Registered Members earned through the Girl Scout Fall Product and Cookie Programs). ▶▶ If two girls from the same household register for the same resident, day, or Ponytails camp, they will both receive a $20 Trading Post (camp store) credit. This does not apply to CIT sessions, Extra Adventures, Family Camp, or Troop Camps. This cannot be used in combination with Camperships (financial assistance). ▶▶ If a girl registers for more than one resident, day, or Ponytails camp this summer, she will receive a $30 Trading Post credit credit to use during her second camp after completion of the second camp. This does not apply to CIT sessions, Extra Adventures, Family Camp, or Troop Camps. This cannot be used in combination with Camperships (financial assistance). Registrations do not need to be completed at the same time. Limit one $30 Trading Post credit per girl, even if if she registers for more than two camps. ▶▶ A limited number of Camperships are also available. Please see our Camperships section below.

Camperships If your girl would love to attend camp as a camper or Counselor-in-Training (CIT) but doesn’t have the resources to do so, we may be able to help!

Families can apply for Camperships by paying the initial $50 deposit for camp and submitting a Campership application. Campership applications are due by April 1, 2019, and are awarded after April 15, 2019. We highly recommend you send in the application as soon as you submit your online registration, applications are reviewed and assessed as they come in and funds are allocated starting April 1, 2019. Selecting “Need Financial Assistance” on the Camp Registration email does NOT register your girl for financial assistance. The form must be completed and received by the council. Please remember, the best way to pay for camp is to participate fully in the fall product and cookie programs!

Bring a Friend!

Is your Girl Scout thinking about coming to camp but is hesitant because she doesn’t know anyone? She can bring a female, non-Girl Scout friend!

All her friend has to do is sign up to be an Individually Registered Member (IRM), and she can join your Girl Scout at camp. They can even request to be in the same cabin or tent!

Current non-Girl Scouts can register as IRMs by going to girlscoutsni.org and clicking “Girls Join!” and “Get Started Today.” Complete all information and at the “Ways to Participate” screen, search the word “camp” in the Troop # field, and select “Individually Registered Member.” If the friend is outside of GSNI’s council jurisdiction, or if registration assistance is needed, please contact Customer Care at 844-476-4463 or customercare@girlscoutsni.org.

Do you know someone who wants to make a difference in girls’ lives at our summer camps? Does this person have the enthusiasm to present their best self, an amazing attitude, and dedication to learning and providing challenges for a summer our girls will never forget? Critical to the success of summer camp is finding and hiring the right staff. Staff members can be a retiree, teacher, and so on as we offer some “flexible” positions that don’t require staff to live at camp or even work full-time.

We are looking for summer staff with passion, drive, grit, personality, and willingness to learn Girl Scout songs, traditions, and leadership skills.

Our paid training may include outdoor skills such as cooking, fire building, archery, crate stacking, small watercraft, lifeguarding, and more! Imagine what your resume could look like by the end of summer.

Specialty activities such as archery, crate stacking, target sports, etc. are located at one or more of our camps. Camper participation in these activities during summer camp is dependent on the camp location, the session they are registered for, as well as their age. Camp Volunteers Volunteers help us provide girls with an exceptional camp experience.

Whether it’s helping in the greenhouse, assisting with programming, or being a guest speaker, GSNI volunteers are critically important to the success of summer camp. Volunteer opportunities are flexible, starting at just a couple hours to a few days. You can help as little or as much as you’d like! Camp Open Houses Open to the Public | Free | Registration required Join us at our Camp Open Houses! Everyone is welcome to tour the camp and see where the campers will sleep, eat, and play games with new friends. Our experienced camp professionals will be available to answer questions, talk about what a day at camp is like, and ensure your camper is excited and prepared for her summer experience! We’ll have a variety of games including a scavenger hunt, arts and crafts, and snacks for girls and their families. Wear comfortable shoes if you want to go on our official camp tours which will be offered 1–2 p.m. at each camp. Register online at girlscoutsni.org. Want to help prepare our camps for the summer? Deposit A $50 deposit is REQUIRED for EACH session/person registered. Deposits may be cash, check, or credit card. Family Camps, Troop Camps and Extra Adventures must be paid in full at time of registration.

Balance Due/Required Paperwork All balances must be received by a GSNI Resource Center by June 1, 2019 or your camper may be removed from the camp session. Camper paperwork must be brought to the check-in table at the beginning of each camp session. Campers without full payment or proper paperwork will not be allowed to remain at camp.

Camp Information Buddy Preference An important part of camp is making new friends. However, we understand your camper may feel more comfortable coming to camp with a friend.

Two girls who would like to attend camp together should fill in the buddy preference section during online registration, or, if registering by paper form, on the registration form and mail the two registration forms together in the same envelope to guarantee both are registered for the program.

Buddy requests must be mutual and for the same camp and session.

Refunds Deposits, Extra Adventure fees, and Family and Troop Camp fees are non-refundable. A full refund, including deposit, is made only if a camper cannot be placed in a program or if it is necessary to cancel the program.

No refunds will be made for campers arriving late, leaving early, attending only part of the program, or for those who fail to attend. Contact Customer Care at customercare@girlscoutsni.org or 844-476-4463, to obtain a Refund Request Form. After camp ends, partial refunds may be considered on a case-by-case basis and only in the case of extenuating family circumstances or medical reasons supported by a doctor’s statement.

Any authorized refunds will be issued starting in September 2019.

Campers with Disabilities The goal of our camps is to provide a successful experience for all girls.

Please communicate with our Customer Care team at customercare@ girlscoutsni.org or 844-476-4463, about campers with any special needs or disabilities. This enables our camp staff to make every effort to accommodate those needs.

our health supervisor. All Counselors are first-aid/CPR/AED trained. For all camps, emergency care is available at a nearby clinic or hospital. No camper—child or adult—is allowed to remain at camp without completed and signed health forms. To ensure the health and safety of campers, each camp has procedures in place to monitor and respond to emergencies, including weather conditions.

Visitors Families are encouraged to visit camp during GSNI’s Camp Open Houses prior to the start of summer camp. To ensure safety and security, no visitors are allowed on site during camp sessions unless previously authorized by GSNI.

Transportation Families are responsible for providing all transportation to and from camp.

Health and Safety All Girl Scout camps in this brochure are licensed by their state and uphold state and federal health and safety codes, as well as Girl Scouts of the USA policies and standards. Camp Dean and Camp McCormick are also accredited by the American Camp Association. All camps meet industry standards for health and site safety, food service management, human resources, program design, and activities. Health centers are staffed by

Program Changes Although rare, the GSNI council, for a variety of reasons, may occasionally cancel a camp session. If this occurs, you can expect the entire camp fee, including the deposit, to be refunded. Other times, certain activities described in the camp sessions must be suspended or changed due to circumstances beyond our control, such as inclement weather, equipment availability, and staffing. In these situations, we may provide alternate program options.

Under circumstances of this type, refunds should not be expected.

2019 Camp Themes All day and 6-day/5-night resident camp sessions, except Ponytails, will focus on a central theme aligned with our four focus areas: Practical Life Skills, Outdoor Activities & Adventures, Travel & Global Community, and Career & Interest Exploration. In addition to each session’s theme, girls will also have the opportunity to participate in popular camp activities such as swimming or water activities, arts and crafts, nature exploration, campfires, outdoor cooking, and more. All girls will go home with a personalized list of badge requirements achieved during their time at camp!

Animal Planet Does your camper love animals just as much as we do? If so, this is the camp for her! She’ll have an opportunity to learn about a variety of animals to include traditional pets, barnyard animals, reptiles, amphibians, and more. She’ll even be able to hold a few and see them close-up!

Around the World What kind of food, games, and music do people enjoy in other regions of the world? Each day, girls will discover a different region, try different foods, listen to music, and play games based on various cultures. Who knows, maybe this camp will pique your camper’s interest and make her want to travel the world!

The Beauty of Nature From the tiniest flowers, nature’s critters, and reflections off water to beautiful orange sunsets, when you take time to explore nature, you will see just how beautiful it truly is! Campers will explore the camp property and find inspiration in nature to create beautiful paintings, drawings, collages and sculptures to capture nature’s beauty. The last day of camp, the campers will display their favorite piece and even have it featured on the camp Facebook page!

Build-a-Biz Does she ever think about running her own business? Does she want to make money by selling friendship bracelets, art work, photos, and more? This is the camp for her! She’ll start her “business” by the end of the week, and parents will have the opportunity to shop at pick-up IF it is a business she can “create” at camp such as selling art work, slime, friendship bracelets, etc. If the business doesn’t produce an item she can make at camp, she will create a brochure for display.

From archery to hatchet throwing and slingshots to air rifles, girls will have the opportunity to practice target sports this summer! At Camp McCormick, campers will be instructed on safety guidelines, proper use of air rifles, accurate aiming techniques, breathing tips, and more. They will end their session with a target challenge like no other! We may even have some medals to hand out! Who’s ready to join us?

The Enchanted “Fairy” Forest Has your camper fallen in love with fairies, gnomes, unicorns, woodland creatures, twinkling lights, and fairy dust? If she hasn’t yet, she will at camp! During this session, girls will explore mythical forest creatures through arts, songs, and adventure. They’ll have the opportunity to create magical potions, miniature furniture, fairy homes, glitter slime, magical gardens, and teeny, tiny artwork to place in their fairy villages. If they are staying overnight, their cabins or tents will be lit with sparkling lights to create a magical atmosphere where they can drift off to dream world. On the last day, campers will have the opportunity to take their guardians on a walk through our Enchanted “Fairy” Forest (weather permitting).

Engineering Extremes Put her imagination to the test as she plans and builds an engineering solution in order to achieve her goals and obtain a prize!

How will she reach her lunch hanging from a tree? How will she launch an object across the pond or over a tent?

The week will end with a design competition to test her new found engineering skills!

Escape Room Challenge Plan and make an escape room! Then, challenge other campers and even staff to find their way out! As an added bonus, camp staff will create an escape room specifically for girls to navigate their way out of. This is sure to be a crowd pleaser!

Race to the Finish From finding hidden treasures to solving puzzles and games, this week will be full of adventures, challenges, and keeping active. On the last day, see which team can get from start to finish the fastest using their wits and their physical abilities!

Shakin’ & Groovin’ It’s party time! She’ll bring her best 60s/70s retro costumes (don’t worry, we’ll have some at camp) and tie dye to her heart’s content—everything from bandanas to pillow cases (bring her own) to T-shirts! We’ll turn up the music, turn on the disco lights, and have a blast dancin’ the day away!

Under the Big Top Who doesn’t love a circus and a carnival? Campers will have the chance to build carnival games and learn circus acts such as juggling, slack lining, and stilt walking the first days of camp. During the last days, they’ll put on a circus carnival for themselves and other campers to enjoy. (While we’re at it, why not dress up like we belong in the circus or in a carnival?) We’ll even have “tokens” they’ll need to take part in the activities!

Zombie Apocalypse The zombies are coming! Is your camper prepared to survive and thrive in a whole new world? Can she make it on her own without electronics and human-made materials? She’ll spend a few days learning basic bush craft and pioneer skills such as using compasses, preparing a camouflage shelter, and more. She’ll put them to the test as CITs turn into (not-scary) zombies and try to find her!

Extra Adventures Why not spend a day or even an overnight enjoying adventure outside of camp? Extra Adventures are available to girls looking to add an outdoor adventures to their summer! Girls can attend camp, the Extra Adventures, or both! Space is limited to 8–10 girls, so register early. Extra Adventures leaving from Camp Far Horizons: What’s SUP? entering Grades 9–12

Older girls will have an opportunity to stay overnight at Camp Far Horizons and use it as a basecamp/hangout in between off-site excursions to include SUP, ropes course, and kayaking. What’s SUP? That’s short for Stand Up Paddleboard. Have you ever seen people standing up on what looks like a surfboard? Now, she will have a chance to try it out! Girls will receive a 20–30 minute lesson from official GSNI Preferred Partner, Fever River Outfitters in Galena, then have the opportunity to paddle down a flat, slow current section of the Galena River. In addition, they can traverse a ropes course and kayak down the river. Back at basecamp, girls can hang out by the campfire, play volleyball, gaga ball, or go on hikes.

Girls will travel to Wisconsin with our professionally trained camp staff.

We’ll set out at 7:30 a.m. on Day One and enjoy a high adventure within an Alpine Tower and high ropes course, complete with a giant swing.

Then, settle in for a night in a cozy cabin, relax, have some dinner and get some sleep for the next day! Day Two, we’ll visit the Peshtigo River for whitewater rafting, hiking, and sightseeing local waterfalls! This is sure to be an adventure she will never forget! Trip includes meals, activities, transportation to/from Camp McCormick, and overnight stays. Activities provided by official GSNI Preferred Partner, Wildman Adventure Resort of Silver Cliff, Wisconsin.

Does she want to see what it feels like to sky dive? Now’s her chance!

She’ll have the opportunity to “fly” 2 flights equivalent to 3 skydiving freefalls from 12,000 feet! She’ll participate in hands-on experiments, learn about the science behind flight, and even receive a fun patch! Trip includes sack dinner, activities, and transportation to/from Camp Dean.

Summer camp staff will be on hand to lead camp activities like swimming, arts and crafts, archery, and outdoor cooking. Troops are responsible for providing adequate adult supervision (consult GSNI’s online Camping Safety Activity Checkpoints). Session fee includes activity supplies, food, and camp staff support. Camp Leadership Camp Leadership Camp is a perfect opportunity to take on a leadership role and be a role model for younger girls! Girl Scouts is the premiere leadership organization for girls, and camp provides many options to learn and practice leadership skills. The Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program is a great way to learn about leadership, group dynamics, outdoor skills, and program planning. CITs will mentor younger girls and earn a Girl Scout National Award! Our CIT program is a stepping stone to developing the skills it takes to lead others or even to become a future camp counselor, leader in college and more!

Girls will be able to enjoy camp and be a mentor, teaching younger girls how to have fun in the outdoors. The CIT program is designed so girls will participate in leadership training then have the opportunity to apply those skills with younger campers the same week. All interactions with younger campers will be alongside our trained camp staff. Girls can also complete more than one CIT session per summer.

Activities during the CIT program will go toward helping girls earn the CIT I or CIT II award. If girls want to earn the CIT awards, they must attend and complete CIT I before CIT II. Sessions can be attended without the earning of the award.

Is she ready to take her camp experience up a notch? Becoming a CIT Apprentice (CIT A) allows her to be a camper and take a leadership role at the same time! During this overnight camp, she will take the first step in her camping career by completing the Program Aide Basic (leadership skills, songs, skits, etc.) and Program Aide Outdoor trainings (knot tying, outdoor cooking, fire building, etc.) with professional Girl Scout staff. After developing her leadership skills and putting them to use with younger campers, she will still have time to enjoy her favorite camp activities such as hiking and making s’mores by the campfire.

If girls have already completed Program Aide Basic and/or Program Aide Outdoor trainings, we will provide additional leadership skills and opportunities for them during this session. Be sure to let us know in the comments section during registration so we can plan accordingly. ▶▶ Drop-off on first day of session: 2:30–3 p.m ▶▶ Pick-up on last day of session: 4:30–5 p.m.

She’s almost there! Now’s the time to pull together all the camp development and leadership skills she has developed over the years. At this two-week session, including the weekend, she will challenge herself to be the best she can be as she’s put in the spotlight to handle real-life camper experiences when working with younger campers, navigate obstacles any camp counselor can encounter, and develop a specialty skill. This is excellent experience and enhances a college application or resume—especially if she wants to work at one of GSNI’s camps once she turns 18. Girls are not required to complete CIT I prior to CIT II. Our CIT Director will develop a plan to ensure girls without CIT I training will be caught up during the training. new Due to the training, dedicated CIT staff, and low cost of these camps, all girls must complete a CIT Application and be selected to participate in the CIT I and CIT II programs. During our CIT Leadership Week, girls who have already completed CIT A (or Program Aide Basic and Program Aide Outdoor), CIT I or CIT II training, will implement the leadership skills they learned in previous trainings. Along with our CIT Director, they will plan their week to ensure they focus on their interests as well as camp needs. They could focus on outdoor skills, Girl Scout traditions, cooking, programming, team building, etc. They will then lead those activities once they are comfortable doing so. In addition, girls will be required to complete a service project while at camp. Projects could include creating and hanging new directional or informational signs, painting cabins, gardening, creating new caper charts, etc.

This is a real-world, hands-on experience in which they can be positive role models for younger campers and fine-tune their leadership, communication, and team-building skills. Ongoing mentoring and guidance will be provided by trained staff during the week in order to refine their skills and performance.

CITs must submit their proposal and include when they would like to attend and what what they would like to accomplish during their CIT Leadership Week. The plan must be approved by council before a girl will be accepted into the program. Proposal templates and additional information can be found at girlscoutsni.org/CIT. Once she is accepted into the program, registration instructions will be sent via email. Girls can attend camp any week there are camp sessions. Girls will propose the date/s during their application. Girls can attend as many weeks as they’d like. However, space is limited.

Camp Leadership Program Aides Program Aides (PAs) are Girl Scout Cadettes and older girls who lead and assist with activities at resident camp, council events and service units events, including Volunteer-Led Day Camps and/ or troop meetings. Some volunteer opportunities may require girls to attend Program Aide Basic and/or Program Aide Outdoor training. Program Aide Basic training is a required step in earning the Cadette Program Aide Award. As a Program Aide, she’ll learn how to work with younger Girl Scouts, develop her teaching and communication skills, and become a role model, leader and mentor.

A world of experiences waits as older girls from GSNI head to the Windy City for the weekend! She’ll explore Chinese culture by visiting the Chinese Cultural Institute and tour the historic and vibrant Chinatown with an expert guide. She will also attend a dumpling making workshop and enjoy an authentic Chinese meal. She will be staying at Hosteling International, located in the heart of Chicago. Like travel, food has always been something that brings people together, and we will take part in preparing and sharing a meal with other hostel travelers. Our group will explore the city using buses, trains, and our own two feet!

Cost includes travel, two nights lodging, breakfasts, and all activities!

Girls should bring $10 to cover the cost of dinner on Friday and Saturday night, a total of $20. We will meet at a Metra station in the suburbs and take the train in together!

Adventure awaits! She’ll take a trip down a 3-story tall zip-line, enjoy a leisurely hike through the grotto, test her strength on the Mount Saint Benson climbing wall, and climb aboard her sled to zoom down the Twilight Zone tube slide! Girls must be accompanied by an adult. Meals are provided. Depending upon troop sizes, troops may be assigned to sleeping cabins with other troops.

Lodge Camping Training is required for all adults preparing to take girls on an overnight trip to a facility with modern amenities, such as staying overnight indoors at one of the council-owned camps. Adults will learn the progression needed to prepare girls for an overnight trip, how to explore when girls are emotionally and physically ready to spend the night away from home, plan the trip, fire building, safety preparations, and spark ideas on things to do in the outdoors.

Let’s learn some different styles of outdoor cooking! There will be a little of this, that, and the other! We’ll learn how to use cast iron, box ovens, and maybe even a few you’ve not tried yet! Come enjoy cooking and eating. Bring a mess kit, something to drink, dunk bag, and dress for the weather.

Outdoor Overnight Training is required for all adults who are preparing to take girls on an overnight trip. You will learn how to prepare a delicious, nutritious meal outdoors, safe dishwashing methods, review fire building and safety along with different types of cooking fires and methods. You’ll learn how to pitch a tent and put up mosquito netting, plus activities for camping, review of latrine care, and cleaning up with minimal impact to the environment. Participants are required to spend the night.

You’ll learn how to build a fire safely and prepare meals in the outdoors.

Crate Stacking Training Free Have you been telling your girls, “The sky’s the limit!”? Now it’s time to show them! Crate stacking is a challenge element at GSNI camps where participants both stack and climb milk crates to see how high they can build and climb. This fun challenge requires a trained adult to handle the ropes that support the climber. Complete this training, and your girls will be climbing in no time! Training covers harnesses, rope management, and safety. Maximize your day and take archery training immediately before crate stacking training!

This is an adult-only training. This training is required to participate in crate stacking at GSNI camps.

Camp & Facility Rental Camp Dean girlscoutsni.org/dean Camp Dean has 160 acres of wetlands, woodlands, and prairies for campers to explore! Located in Big Rock, about an hour west of Chicago, it offers a unique camp setting for girls that is far enough for adventure and independence but still feels close to home.

Facilities include three program centers, sleeping cabin units, grassy sport fields, outdoor pool, private pond, trails, creek, dining hall, health center, and a camp office.

Camp Far Horizons girlscoutsni.org/farhorizons Camp Far Horizons is near the Mississippi River in Hanover, about 30 minutes southeast of Galena, and has over 235 acres of woods and many nature trails. Camp facilities include a central dining hall, craft and nature tents, archery range, rappelling tower, volleyball

field, and health center. Girls sleep in screened-in, platform tents in units that can shelter from 12–36 girls. Each unit is equipped with a wash stand, running water, latrines, and a fire ring.

Camp McCormick girlscoutsni.org/mccormick Camp McCormick encompasses almost 400 acres of woods and meadows and is located a few miles south of Rockford, about an hour and a half northwest of Chicago. Camp facilities include a central dining hall, outdoor pool, showers, craft building, health center, hiking trails, covered wagons, Adirondacks, and platform tents. All units have latrines and washstands.

Mary Ann Beebe Center girlscoutsni.org/MABC Located between Woodstock and Harvard, Mary Ann Beebe Center has nearly 300 acres of wetland, prairie, and woods. There is a small pond, yurt, covered wagons, and Adirondack units. There is plenty of open grass area for large numbers of pitched tents. All units have latrines and water.

The camp lodge is available yearround and other units are available from April to October.

Camp Dean, Camp Far Horizons, and Camp McCormick will have limited rental availability during the summer camp season.

Confirmation packets will be sent to the contact person via email once the reservation fee has been received. Packets contain: ▶▶ Confirmation letter ▶▶ Invoice ▶▶ Troop Roster (to be turned in to the Ranger upon check in) ▶▶ General Safety Rules and Regulations ▶▶ Camp Map ▶▶ Incident Report

Service Unit Events: Any service unit renting three or more sites at a property may submit a reservation at any time by contacting GSNI Customer Care at 844-476-4463 or customercare@girlscoutsni.org. Reservations are subject to approval. Deposit for any service unit event is $150. This deposit will be credited toward the rental fee. The full amount must be submitted at least three weeks prior to the event.

Reservation timeline: Due to popular demand by GSNI troops and groups, and upcoming work towards our Long Range Property Plan, GSNI will no longer be accepting third party reservations at our sites. GSNI Girl Scout troops and non-GSNI Girl Scout troops may book sites up to one year an advance.

Deposits: No deposit is required for rental requests for any Girl Scout troops.

If a deposit is submitted, it will be cashed and used toward site fees.

Cancellations: Cancellations made three weeks or more before the date of use will be refunded. Cancellations made within three weeks of the arrival date will be forfeited.

Reservation Transfers: If you would like to transfer your reservation to a different date or location, please contact customercare@girlscoutsni.org or 844-476-4463 at least three weeks prior to your arrival date.

Transfers can be done at no cost.

4 Camp Challenge Patch Program Any GSNI troop can participate in the 4 Camp Challenge Patch Program. Girl can earn this unique fun patch and flames for spending at least one night as a troop camping at any of our four camps! Get started with the campfire base patch available at any GSNI store. During camp check-out, the Ranger will help any leader purchase flame patches ($.50/patch) on behalf of the girls who attended. Patch fees can be paid directly to the Ranger at the time of check-out (checks are preferred).

new! Troop Camping Flame Patch The Troop Camping Flame Patch is earned when girls camp outdoors at a non-GSNI property (such as a county campground, state park, etc.) with their troop. This patch can be earned in the same experience as earning a new Troop Camping badge! Troop Camping Flame Patches can be purchased in any GSNI store. This patch will also fit with the campfire base patch for the 4 Camp Challenge Patch Program.

Service Rocker Patch The Service Rocker Patch is earned when individual girls complete a 12-hour service project at a GSNI property, with the preapproval of a Ranger. Service Rocker Patches will be presented to a girl by a GSNI Ranger, free of charge, once a girl completes all the hours of her property service project.

Reserve a Facilitator with Your Camp Booking Book a facilitator when you book at camp! When renting a GSNI archery range, crate stacking area, target sports, pool, or overnight facility, you will be asked to select whether you will be providing your own trained facilitator or would like to book a GSNI Outdoor Program Facilitator for an additional fee. If you need a facilitator for your activity, GSNI will provide you with one.

Once a facilitator is booked, GSNI will contact you with the details. If GSNI is unable to provide a facilitator during your booked event, you will be notified and offered the opportunity to cancel with no penalty.

Pools are open for a more limited season and a facilitator can be hired as your lifeguard during the pool rental season. If you have an existing reservation April 1 or later you would like to add a facilitator to, contact us at customercare@girlscoutsni.org or at 844-476-4463 on or after March 1.

Existing reservations cannot be canceled due to unavailability of a facilitator.
