Home of the Seasiders
TODAY we host our frst double header of the season and we welcome the players and ofcials of Hemyock and Otery St Mary 2nds to the Davey Fort.
Te Reserves will be kicking of against our Devon and Exeter Division Tree opponents Hemyock in a 1.45pm kickof , to be followed at 4.30pm by the First Team meeting Otery St Mary in a Premier Division clash.
Two victories will be rewarded with a happy hour in the clubhouse between 6pm and 7pm with half-price drinks for the frst time this season. If that is the case, all spectators are invited to join in the celebrations.
We will also be presenting our frst players of the month awards afer the game with the recipients being chosen by the team managers. Te two winners will receive a £20 bar voucher.
Mat Preece, manager of the Reserves for the past couple of seasons, has stood down from the position for personal reasons and we are pleased to announce that Wallace Blackmore has agreed to take on the post, assisted by Dec Ellis. Wally has been a member of the club for 23 years (see Meet Te Manager) on page 11.
Te club thanks Mat for his service and we hope to see him at the Davey Fort in the future.
It was good to see our Under 14s side playing at the Davey Fort last Saturday morning. Leading 3-1 at half-time, unfortunately they ended up losing 5-3 against Exmouth. Manager Darren Wiscombe, however, was pleased with the progress his side is making – Seasiders of the future!

OVER 50?
Get out those boots!
Calling all ex-Seasiders! How would you like to lace up those boots and pull on a Lyme shirt again?
The club is looking into forming a Walking Football side. We looked at this before and even got BBC Spotlight up to the Davey Fort to film our first training session. But then along came COVID and like so many things, the idea got lost along the way.

Axminster, Bridport and Beaminster all have Walking Football sides. Former Lyme club captain Stuart Broom plays for Bridport the age of 74 and has ofered to help set things up if we run with the idea. On the page opposite, Stuart writes about how much he enjoys it.
Matches consist of four 15 minutes, games could be played on a Sunday morning, to be followed by a few pints and refreshments in the clubhouse (just like the old days).
You don’t have to be super fit. Eight-a-side, no ofside, no heading the ball.

Roling back the years!
with Stuart BroomTHE most exhilarating time of my young life was playing football for Lyme, something that continued until my early 30s when I retired to concentrate on my family responsibilities.
Having yearned to once again feel that excitement and passion again, I was so pleased fve years ago to join a local newly formed Walking Football group for over 50 year-olds.

I cannot convey that feeling of once again playing with like-minded people all reliving those memories of the past.
Of course we are now all much older and our ability and agility are not the same, but we all accept that, and adjust accordingly, but it still doesn’t stop us picking that defence spliting pass!
Age doesn’t really play a part. At 74 years-old I am the second oldest; the youngest mid-ffies, but we are all aware of the capabilities of each other and with robust tackling outlawed and no tackling from behind, injuries are few.
Apart from the exercise and thrill of playing, the camaraderie between us is second to none. We have all found new friends and share the odd evening at the pub together.
Having played for Lyme man and boy, I know what a great club it is for inclusion of new ideas, and I fully support the possible formation of your own Walking Football group.
Go on, I know you will enjoy it and bring a smile to your face!
MANAGER MANAGER Wallace Blackmore

RESERVES
I JOINED the club 23 Years ago and I’ve never looked back.
This club has given me many highs and also lows but the camaraderie from all the boys gets you through ready to go again the next week.

You can’t beat the buzz around the club on a Saturday and to be playing and now managing a team for my home town is an honour.
I’ve worked my way up the club over the years and hopefully one day my three boys will follow suit.

Training sessions for all players are held at the Davey Fort every Wednesday evening and are being well supported with 20 or so taking part, a mixture of both first teamers and Reserves.

The sessions are led by first team manager Julien Simier, who is an excellent coach. The routines are all with the ball and not just geared to fitness – a far cry from the road runs of the past – and there’s a fun element as well which the players seem to enjoy.

The sessions start from 6pm and will transfer to the 4-G pitch at Axminster during the winter months.
New players are always welcome.

THIS is Hemyock's sixth visit to our Davey Fort ground and they have yet to return over the county border with a point. Last season the two teams shared 10 goals with Mat Bradley (2), Cam Fowler, Robbie Fowler, Ben Bowditch, Gary Knight and Louis Rinaldi on target for the Seasiders in a 7-3 win.

THE Oters 2nd string make their debut at the Fort today. Lasy season the Lyme frst team did welcome the Otery frst team with Fred Parsons scoring two consolations in a 4-2 win for the visitors.
Goals from Sam Day and Kieren Daniels saw the Lyme frst team extend their unbeaten run in the D&E Division One to three games under returning manager Robin Townsend and his new assistants Steve Crabb and Mark Lock.
