Home of the Seasiders
A WARM welcome awaits the players and ofcials of Wool United who will meet our Reserves side this afernoon in the frst round of the Dorset Intermediate Cup.
We have a proud record in the Intermediate Cup, having won it nine times. Tose were in the days, however, when the First Team competed for the trophy before we were considered to be a senior side.
Back then the Reserves competed in the Dorset Junior Cup, which we won on six occasions, making us one of the most successful clubs in Dorset county cup competitions.
As a senior side in the Devon and Exeter Premier division, our First Team now play in the Dorset Senior Trophy which pitches us against some of the biggest clubs in the county.
Wool United play in Dorset Division One and have won two of their fve games so far this season, occupying eighth place, and will no doubt provide stif opposition for our Ressies.
Te First Team travel to Clyst Valley today and afer last week’s excellent 3-2 win over University of Exeter 2nds they will be looking for three more points to continue climbing up the Premier division.
Due to an unforeseen technical problem we had to reduce last week’s programme by four pages at the last moment which meant we had to drop our feature on the footballing families of Lyme Regis. But you can read it in this issue on pages 8 and 9.
I would like to remind all our supporters that LRFC is a licensed club and all those who use the facilities have to become members. Social membership is £25 for the season and covers all family members. As well as being able to use our excellent facilities (with the cheapest beer in town!), each member gets one free clubhouse booking.
If you have not become a member yet, just speak to Bet y Hitchcock or Maureen Reed and they will enroll you.

FIRST TEAM
HAVING played every other week in the last month we knew our biggest challenge would be to find a good rhythm against a young, tricky Uni team who like to play from the back and beat teams through the lines.
And in the first half we struggled, no rhythm, very slow in our movements and intentions without the ball.
Even though we were poor, we created the best chances in the first half only for them to score from a long ball over the defence which we struggled to deal with.
We had a lot of positive things to take into our second half, we changed a couple of things tactically. We picked ourselves up, and found our Seasiders’ character.
We were fantastic in the second half, scored really quickly with Brad Rowe and from then pushed really hard. The second goal came from a fantastic corner from Fred Thomson (who played exceptionally well coming into the team) with a chest finish from Robbie Fowler. The third goal from Ben Turner finished the game until the ref decided to give 10 minutes added time (for some reason I am still trying to understand) during which they scored causing a few more
nerves at the end of the game.
We played really well again with lots of character. Hard for me to pick a man-ofthe-match as we were poor as a team in the first half and great as a team in the second half.
Robbie Fowler had a great game, Gary Knight and Dan Beer were outstanding at the back. Will Meech was phenomenal in goal. Alex Rowe was incredible at left back, swapping with Robbie Fellingham pushing in the middle, giving us more control and tempo in the game.
The midfield was again working really hard with Fred Parsons and Ben Turner dominating it. Brad Rowe gave us more of a focus point second half with excellent movements which he struggled with the first half.
I am hoping we can manage to bring that quality of football and spirit into a 90-minute game as there will be games where we can't aford to start that poorly and give the other team a heads-up.
Anyone for Darts?
Is anyone interested in forming a darts team at the club? The local league need one more team to re-start.
Just four players are needed.
Games are played on Thursday evenings.
If interested speak to Dave Holland.
Te great football families of Lyme
WE pride ourselves on being a family club ever since LRFC was formed in 1885, three years before the Dorset FA came into being.
And during those years, especially afer the Second World War and more recent times, there has been a great similarity between the team sheets.
If you take a look through our history, you will fnd the same names time and again.

THE NEXT GENERATIONTHE NEXT GENERATION
LAST weekend the little Seasiders travelled to Crediton. Some Excellent Football was played end-to-end, with a first goal from Josh Fowler being disallowed by a poor ofside call.
We soon got back to end-to-end football with our front four showing a great link up. Again, we nearly went one up from a freekick but it took a deflection just in front of the line.
Crediton were went 1 - 0 up from a great header and in the last 10 minutes of the game both teams had fire in the bellies wanting the win,
Finley Toates was fouled just inside and awarded penalty with just three minutes to go. Finley stepped up and struck the ball with confidence to level the scores and gain a great point. Man-of-the-match was Wilfred Clift-Stanley.

The new season finally got under way for the Lyme Under 11s at the Anning Road playing field against Broadclyst Youth Lions.
Broadclyst started strongly and showed us what life would be like in Division Two of the Exeter and East Devon League.
The boys battled really hard for all of the game whilst scoring two amazing free-kicks but, unfortunately, we came away with a loss.
Goal scorers were Marley Rawlins, Josh Fowler. Man-of-the-match went to Marley Rawlins.
