Dogs to be kept on leads on main beach

DORSET Council has agreed that dogs will now have to be kept on a lead on Lyme Regis’ main beach during winter. The council’s Cabinet has approved recommendations about its dog-related restrictions in public spaces following months of debate and argument. Dogs will be excluded from the sand beach and Cobb Gate shingle beach in Lyme Regis between May 1 to September 30. However, they will now have to be kept on a lead outside this period, having previously been allowed to run loose during the winter months. REPORT, PAGE 2

Council supports local groups with £6,000 in grants TWO local artists have had their work selected for the prestigious Society of Women Artists exhibition. Julie Oldfield (pictured) - resident artist at the Harbour Inn - and former Woodroffe School student Chloe Harris, both from Uplyme, have had their work selected for the event. The annual event is usually held at The Mall Gallery in London but this year the society’s 159th exhibition is being held online due to coronavirus restrictions. See page 12 for full report. The grants are being made by Arts Council England and come on top of £103million of emergency funding distributed from the Culture Recovery Fund for heritage venues and £3.5million of emergency funding for music venues. This current round of awards covers grants of up to £1million, mean-

LYME Regis Town Council has handed out almost £6,000 to local organisations, despite having lost an estimated £300,000 this year due to COVID-19. Grants totalling £5,799 were awarded to eight local organisations. The council had set a budget of £20,000 for annual grants before the coronavirus pandemic, but most of the 29 organisations that initially applied in February withdrew their requests. REPORT, PAGE 7
