Residents told to be ‘security conscious’ POLICE have advised Lyme Regis residents to be more security conscious. Police Community Support Officer Amanda King, who started covering the area in November, has said that while Lyme Regis is a very safe place to live, residents were “perhaps not as security conscious as they should be”. NEW residents of Lyme Regis Community Land Trust’s first development are celebrating after moving into their new homes. All 15 affordable units of the Garmans Field development, off Timber Hill, have been allocated to individuals and young families with a connection to Lyme Regis but they were 300 per cent oversubscribed with many still on the waiting list for affordable housing. Golfers bid to break quickest round record AS part of their 125th anniversary, members of Lyme Regis Golf Club will be striving to get into the Guinness Book of Records for the fastest round of golf by multiple players. The current record of 13 minutes, 42 seconds is held by Farnham Golf Club in Surrey having used 80 players. The date applied for by organisers of the annual display in Lyme Regis - Thursday, August 16 to coincide with Lyme Regis Community Week - clashes with one of the team’s engineering days and no other date is
available in their busy schedule. The Red Arrows have been gracing the skies of Lyme Regis for more than 40 years. They first appeared in the town in the 1970s for Regatta & Carnival Week before becoming the star feature of Lifeboat Week, appearing for free in support of the RNLI. The team annually attracted tens of thousands to Lyme Regis and ‘Red Arrows Day’ became one of
the most important days of the year for the town’s economy. In 2016, it was feared that Lyme’s lengthy relationship with the Arrows would come to an end, as the Ministry of Defence agreed to charge for all future displays. Organisers of Lifeboat Week felt they could not commit their charity funds to the event. However, an appeal launched by the now-closed TURN TO PAGE 2
