Playing field off limits for fitness coaches A LOCAL couple who provide fitness lessons for young people and those with mental health issues have been banned from using the playing field in Anning Road, Lyme Regis, for their training. California Fitness has been told it can no longer use the playing field, because a covenant dating back to 1934 does not permit trading on the land. REPORT, PAGE 3

COUNCIL SLAMMED AS IT CONSIDERS BANNING SUMMER EVENTS
A RECOMMENDATION that festivals be banned from taking place on Lyme Regis seafront during the peak season has been met with widespread condemnation from residents and event organisers.
The suggestion that major events and festivals should not be held during the school holidays or on Bank Holidays, when the town is

francesca@lyme-online.co.uk already busy, has been put forward by the town council as part of a new events policy which, if given final approval, will be enforced from 2019 onwards. The policy would apply to all major events and festivals held on town council land, including Marine Parade, with the exception of Lifeboat Week in July, Regatta & Carnival Week in August and the
Fossil Festival on the early May Bank Holiday, as councillors said these have always âhistoricallyâ been held on set dates. The councilâs own Community Week in August 2019 â when it is hoped the Red Arrows will return to Lyme Regis â will also not be affected. Events planned for next year which would be affected include Jazz Jurassica and B Sharpâs Busking Festival, usually held jointly on the late May Bank Holiday; Lyme
Folk Weekend, held at the end of the school summer holiday; and a new Caribbean Festival which was set to take place on the August Bank Holiday. The Dorset Street Food Festival was staged on Lyme Regis seafront for the first time over the late May Bank Holiday this year, and would also be affected if organisers wanted to hold it at the same time again in 2019.

ST Michaelâs Primary School in Lyme Regis has been graded as ârequires improvementâ in the latest report from school inspectors at Ofsted. The voluntary aided Church of England primary and pre-school was rated âgoodâ following an inspection in January, but because of recent changes to the Ofsted Inspection Framework it had to be visited by inspectors again in May, and has now been downgraded to ârequires improvementâ. Campaign launched to save cricket club
A FUNDRAISING campaign is up and running to save Uplyme & Lyme Regis Cricket Club, founded 132 years ago, from folding. The club has to raise about ÂŁ4,000 to complete the purchase of an essential roller before the end of the cricket season, and a number of events are planned to take place in the coming weeks.
