New mayor holds on to committee chairmanship
Rocking against climate change HUNDREDS enjoyed a festival spirit as the seventh Guitars On The Beach was held in Lyme Regis on Saturday - this year promoting an important message to look after the environment and fight climate change. The event included a full programme of live music on a stage set up on the sand, showing off some of the best local talent. See pages 12 and 13 for full story and more photos. Off to the polls again
THE new Mayor of Lyme Regis, Councillor Brian Larcombe MBE, has retained his chairmanship of the Human Resources Committee. Councillor Larcombe, who was a senior HR manager at the Ministry of Defence’s Hydrographic Office in Taunton, was re-elected chairman of the committee at its first meeting following the local elections. Newly-elected councillor Gillian Stammers will serve as vice-chairman. The committee oversees member/staff issues and recruitment. Councillor Graham Turner has been elected chairman of the town council’s Planning Committee, which is responsible for making recommendations to Dorset Council on local planning applications. Councillor Larcombe was his predecessor and will now serve as vice-chairman. The chairmen and vice-chairmen of the Town Management & Highways Committee; Tourism, Community & Publicity Committee and the influential Strategy & Finance Committee will all be elected at their respective first meetings over the next three weeks.

CALL FOR ELECTION TO FILL TOWN COUNCIL VACANCY A BY-ELECTION will be held to fill a vacancy on Lyme Regis Town Council if more than one candidate steps forward.
The town council announced this week that it had received requests from the necessary 10 electors for a by-election to be called. If more than one candidate puts their name forward – which is expected – the

francesca@lyme-online.co.uk vote will be held on Thursday, August 8. A statement from the council added: “We’re awaiting a timetable of key dates and will provide updates when we have them.” One candidate who this week confirmed he will be standing in the byelection is former mayor Owen
Lovell. Following a 40-year career in local government, Mr Lovell expressed disappointment that he was not able to stand in the May election due to an administrative issue with his nomination papers, and he is now hoping to regain his seat. The current vacancy arose when Cheryl Reynolds resigned from the council just a week after retaining her seat in the May elections. After Councillors Brian Larcombe
MBE and Jeff Scowen were elected the new mayor and deputy mayor respectively, Mrs Reynolds said she no longer felt able to work with them as their “only ambition is to wreck this council’s reputation” and immediately walked out of the Guildhall. Mrs Reynolds has now written a letter to LymeOnline further explaining the reasons for her resignation (see page 3).
