‘Ammonite’ film makers donate £15,000 to town LYME Regis Town Council has confirmed a donation of £15,000 has been made by the makers of Mary Anning biopic ‘Ammonite’. The council negotiated the fee after Fossil Films Ltd. took over several areas of the town for production in March, including Bell Cliff, Coombe Street, the Cobb and Monmouth Beach. Councillors will decide how to spend the money at a meeting of Strategy and Finance Committee on July 10. Suggestions have included contributing towards a statue of fossil hunter Mary Anning in the town, or supporting local youth causes. REPORT, PAGE 3

Council bans use of harmful weed killer

LYME Regis Town Council received applause from the public last week when it agreed to stop using glyphosate products, such as Roundup weed killer, now known as a “probable carcinogenic”. The council agreed to stop using Roundup by just one vote, after hearing concerns that it could cause cancer and had a detrimental effect on the environment and wildlife. REPORT, PAGE 8

ARCHIE Woollacott, one of the 14-year-old boys rescued by Lyme Regis lifeboat crew last week, after they were swept 200 metres out to sea from the River Axe, visited the lifeboat station after his ordeal to present the crew with a homemade cake as a thank you. The volunteer crew was widely praised after the dramatic incident attracted much attention from the regional press and on social media. See full story on page 10.

Gardens a ‘disgrace’

the seafront gardens. He made a number of recommendations at the meeting but some councillors questioned whether they had the manpower to get the job done. Mr Ball’s recommendations included cutting back overhanging plants and weeding flower beds immediately, and then ripping some

out in autumn, reducing their size and replacing them with perennial planting schemes to cut costs on planting and maintenance. He added that some areas of planting could be scrapped altogether and replaced with lawn, including the pampas grass.
