US flag ripped from building A FLAGPOLE displaying the American flag was ripped off a building in Lyme Regis on Saturday, as the USA marked Independence Day. The flagpole was erected on Woodville, on the junction of Silver Street and Woodmead Road, in honour of American GIs who were based in the building before D-Day. The incident sparked outrage on social media and the flag was later returned. REPORT, PAGE 3
Mary’s beach hut opens on seafront
Grow your own initiative is a hit AN initiative to get Lyme Regis growing its own fruit and vegetables has hit the ground running during lockdown, with more than 500 members already taking part on Facebook. Rikey Austin and her husband Paddy Howe, who set up Lyme Garden Growers, eventually plan to sell their house and set up a community garden to grow local produce available for free to all. Trouble in the gardens POLICE RECEIVE REPEATED REPORTS OF ‘UNACCEPTABLE’ BEHAVIOUR
POLICE have obtained additional powers to move people on from Langmoor and Lister Gardens in Lyme Regis following repeated reports of anti-social behaviour.

francesca@lyme-online.co.uk Dorset Police has received a number of reports from residents in the area over recent weeks relating to young people gathering in large groups and playing loud music, often late into the night.
Officers have now obtained section 35 dispersal powers for the gardens, which means they can order people to leave the area and they are liable to be arrested if they return within a designated period. There will continue to be an increased police presence in the vicinity to deter any future anti-so-
cial behaviour and officers will take enforcement action when required. Neighbourhood Inspector Darren Stanton said: “This inconsiderate behaviour has understandably caused a great deal of nuisance to residents in the area, with some

AXMINSTER and Lyme Regis Cancer Support have officially opened Mary Anning’s Beach Hut on the seafront, for exclusive use by cancer sufferers and their families. The beach hut has been named after the town’s most famous fossil hunter, Mary Anning, who died of breast cancer. REPORT, PAGE 12
