Concerns over plans for holiday homes in woodland area A PLANNING application for three new holiday homes in a woodland area off Stile Lane, Lyme Regis, has raised concerns with neighbours. The application has been submitted to develop three new holiday homes on a 0.2 hectare area of woodland behind the listed Belmont House and above Langmoor and Lister Gardens. REPORT, PAGE 8
Council stands firm over dogs on beach
RESPONDING individually to every complaint regarding the dog policy on Lyme Regis beach would be “a full time job” for council staff, according to the mayor. New restrictions regarding dogs on the town’s main sand beach and Cobb Gate shingle beach were introduced over a year ago, but are still resulting in a significant number of complaints from dog owners. Rowing centre opens IT was festive and fun costumes galore as the Lyme Lunge returned to Lyme Regis beach on New Year’s Day. Between 850 and 1,000 swimmers are estimated to have dashed into the sea to raise funds for charity, watched by a crowd of thousands. See pages 12 and 13 for full story and more photos.

FORMER WOODROFFE PUPIL AWARDED BEM IN NEW YEAR’S HONOURS LIST A LYME Regis woman who has devoted her life to helping others has been honoured by the Queen. Clare Gollop, the daughter of Ken and Joan Gollop, who live in Fairfield Park, was awarded the British Empire Media (BEM) for services to victims of slavery and vulnerable young people in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List.

Clare, who lives in Exeter, is the director of the West Midlands Violence Reduction Unit. She was educated at Mrs Ethleston’s Primary School in Uplyme, The Woodroffe School and Exeter College before gaining a degree in disaster management and engineering at Coventry University, going on to study
for her Masters Degree at University College London. Whilst at The Woodroffe School she worked for her Duke of Edinburgh Award with the Lyme Regis Coastguard team, of which her father was a member, become the town’s first female coastguard.
