Work to start on Mary’s statue THE Mary Anning Rocks appeal has reached the £70,000 mark, meaning work can start on the much-awaited statue of Lyme Regis’ most famous fossil hunter. While the online fundraising appeal hopes to raise a total of £100,000, it has now reached a level at which chosen artist Denise Dutton can start work on the statue. A further £30,000 is still needed for the planning application, solicitor fees, ground works, structural and engineering specialists to install the statue. REPORT, PAGE 7

Roads to close for work on Guildhall

BRIDGE Street and a section of Church Street in Lyme Regis are expected to be closed during March to allow work to be carried out on the historic Guildhall. Lyme Regis Town Council is planning to reduce the projection of the overhanging window of the Grade II listed Guildhall, which is regularly damaged by passing heavy goods vehicles and buses attempting to navigate the narrow, sharp bend. putting it above the national average case rate per 100,000 people for the first time since the pandemic broke out. However, in figures released for January 15 this had reduced to 31 cases, putting in just below the national average again. While this is still an increase of three cases on the previous seven days, it is the first time case numbers have stopped climbing in the local area since mid-December.
