AWARDS FOR LYME’S STAR POPPY COLLECTOR PA GE 12
Complaints over late night drinking LYME Regis Town Council is to raise complaints regarding anti-social behaviour and late-night drinking on the seafront with the police and licensing authority. The issue was raised last week after the Mayor of Lyme Regis, Councillor Brian Larcombe MBE, received several letters of complaint from residents of the Marine Parade area, one in particular that said the noise disruption last summer was the worst it had ever been. Carnival hands out £9k to local groups
Dancing for Down Under! FOLLOWING the devastating fires that have swept across Australia, a Lyme Regis dance class decided they wanted to do something to help the huge number of animals affected. Fitsteps, led by instructor Sarah Causley, enjoyed a special class with members dressing in Australian or animal costumes and dancing to animal-theme music, followed by tea and cake. The event raised £305 for WIRES, a New South Wales-based wildlife rescue and rehabilitation charity.
Grant cuts ‘brutal’
DIFFICULT DECISIONS AS GRANTS BUDGET CUT BY £50K IN the most heated Lyme Regis Town Council meeting in months, members allocated grants totalling more than £340,000 over the next five years to seven local organisations. In light of some major expenditure, including resurfacing the flat

funds, scrapping the former minor, medium and major grants for two new pots - £20,000 a year for annual community grants and £60,000 a year for term grants. For the community grants, organisations can apply for up to £1,000 each and for the term grants, discussed during a tense meeting this week, applicants were invited to
apply for between £1,000 and £30,000 annually for up to five years. Against the £60,000 annual budget, 18 organisations applied for a total of £167,292 in the first year alone, resulting in some difficult decisions and arguments over whether the new system was fair.

FOLLOWING another successful year of events, Lyme Regis Regatta & Carnival Committee has donated more than £9,000 to local good causes. Committee secretary Alan Vian said: “We are delighted to be able to give so much money away to local organisations many of whom helped us with our events this year. We have a small team which organises three events each year, as well as Regatta & Carnival Week itself.” REPORT, PAGE 3
Tribute paid to victim of Charmouth collision
THE family of a man who sadly died following a collision in Charmouth has issued a tribute. The victim of the hit and run incident, which took place on the evening of January 23, has now been named as a 90-year-old Peter Bide, who had lived in the village for 60 years. He had three children, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The driver - a local man in his 40s - is helping police with enquiries. REPORT, PAGE 8
