Council berated for seafront stalls A LYME Regis fossil shop owner has berated the town council for allowing stalls selling fossils to operate from the Marine Parade shelters for minimal rent. Paul Crossley, who owns Jurassic Gems in Drakes Way, spoke at this week’s full council meeting on behalf of all shops in the town selling fossils, minerals and jewellery, describing the council’s policy to allow competing stalls in the seafront shelters as “trecherous”. He criticised the council’s policy to allow commercial traders to book the shelters for £20 each for a whole day. REPORT, PAGE 3

Last Thursday, Dorset County Council’s Regulatory Committee recommended that Cabinet approve plans for a puffin crossing in Broad Street, despite officers
warning it could “adversely affect business” and increase air pollution due to the loss of on-street parking spaces it would cause. Lyme Regis Town Council first requested a pedestrian crossing in 2016 when more than 600 res-
idents signed a petition in favour of the idea, but several councillors have since retracted their support and the plans received significant opposition when they went to public consultation. CONTINUED ON PAGE 3
FUNDS are being raised to refurbish the wooden waterwheel at the historic Town Mill in Lyme Regis. “Urgent action” is required to repair the wheel. The oak spokes and douglas fir buckets need replacing and it is hoped the work will be carried out when the mill is closed for its winter break in January. REPORT, PAGE 3
Last skittle alley to remain at Ship Inn GOOD news for Lyme Regis skittlers. Palmers Brewery has confirmed that the Ship Inn will keep the town’s only skittle alley when there is a change of landlords next year. There were fears for the future of Lyme Regis Skittle League after the closure of the Rock Point Inn following a change of ownership. REPORT, PAGE 24
