Red Arrows will not appear in Lyme this year THE Red Arrows will not be appearing in Lyme Regis this summer. Notification from RAF events that an application for their crack aerobatic team to appear in Lyme in July has been met with disappointment. The Red Arrows, in ever-increasing demand especially after last summer’s tour of duty in the United States, gave breathtaking displays over Lyme Bay for more than 40 years. Philip Evans MBE, who applied for the another display this year, said the news was especially disappointing as it was likely to be a very difficult summer for local traders. He added that he will apply again next year but felt it was unlikely the Arrows would return to Lyme in the near future. REPORT, PAGE 3

Happy 100th birthdays!

Football season called to an end amid virus

TWO local residents have celebrated their 100th birthdays while in isolation. Lindley Baker from Yawl and Edna Imhoff, a resident of Bymead Nursing Home in Charmouth, both marked their 100th birthdays last week but full celebrations have been put on hold due to the coronavirus epidemic. MAYOR WRITES LETTER TO RESIDENTS AMID PANDEMIC "PERHAPS one thing the virus has shown us is what really matters, what the important things are."

That is one of the messages the Mayor of Lyme Regis, Councillor Brian Larcombe MBE, is sending to the town's residents as the coron-

avirus pandemic takes hold. Cllr Larcombe has written a personal letter to Lyme Regis residents about how the virus is being dealt with nationally and locally, thanking local volunteers who are helping others during the crisis, and sending out a message of hope. The mayor has spoken of these

“unprecedented” times, acknowledging the scale of the national initiative in response to the outbreak. He said: "We are all paying regard to the announced advice, guidance and instruction of government, and while no one knows the ultimate reach and extent of the virus, it is of a virulent nature and will impact

communities, both in the cases contracted and the effect current measures place on everyday life." Cllr Larcombe has spoken about the challenges of providing support and services locally due to self-isolation and social distancing but
