Lyme honours Prince Philip LOCAL leaders including West Dorset MP Chris Loder and the Mayor of Lyme Regis have paid tribute to Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, following his death on Friday, April 9. Town crier Alan Vian made a special cry in honour of the Duke outside the Guildhall on Saturday, and a civic party is expected to gather this weekend for a proclamation and silence for Prince Philip’s funeral. Council hands out grants of £9,200
But so is the dredging WITH lockdown restrictions further easing this week, allowing for self-contained holiday accommodation and outdoor hospitality areas to open, Lyme Regis has already seen a busy start to the summer season. But some complaints have been made that the annual harbour dredging and beach re-profiling works carried out by Dorset Council have once again clashed with the Easter holidays, seeing section of the beach closed and black water from the harbour pumped across the sand. LYME Regis town mayor, Cllr Brian Larcombe MBE, will serve a third term as First Citizen.
The appointment should have taken place at Wednesday night’s full council meeting, but this was postponed due to national mourning for the Duke of Edinburgh. Cllr Larcombe was

the only nomination. The mayoralty is usually offered for a twoyear period, but the incumbent is able to stand for a third year if there are no other nominations.
Cllr Larcombe has had a particularly difficult term of office, having to deal with the coronavirus pandemic which placed severe pressure on council finances. However, due to a busy 2020 summer, the council has recovered to a position where it CONTINUED ON PAGE 4
LYME Regis Town Council has handed out more than £9,200 in annual grants to community organisations. Local organisations were invited to apply for small grants of up to £1,000 in this latest round of grants, with 16 requesting a total of £13,233.99. Ten local organisations were successful. Lyme knocked out of Dorset Senior Trophy
LYME Regis Football Club’s first team were knocked out of the Dorset Senior Trophy on Saturday, having been defeated 3-2 by Poole Borough in extra time. Football has returned to the Davey Fort over the past fortnight catch up on our sports page. SEE PAGE 18
