Stallholders hit back following complaint SEAFRONT stallholders have hit back after a Lyme Regis trader berated the town council, saying it was “treacherous” that the authority allowed competitng stalls on Marine Parade for minimal rent. Paul Crossley, who owns Jurassic Gems in Drakes Way, made the complaint to the town council before Christmas. Mike Jefferies, who organises the seafront markets, has now hit back to refute several of the “false allegations” made in Mr Crossley’s statement. REPORT, PAGE 3

Town council retracts support for crossing

Lunging into 2019! THE Rotary Club of Lyme Regis saw its biggest ever turnout of both swimmers and spectators at the annual Lyme Lunge on New Year’s Day. An estimated crowd of 6,000 watched as about 600 swimmers dashed into the water in fancy dress. See pages 12 & 13 for full report and more photos.

cution against the dog owner for “failing to have the dog under control”, and said he hopes policies regarding dogs on the beach will be reviewed.

Under West Dorset District Council’s current policies, dogs are allowed on the main sandy beach in winter without a lead. Speaking at a meeting before the Christmas break, Councillor Lovell reported that a 12-year-old

boy was left with bites and bruising on Saturday, December 1 after a dog leapt up at him several times. Councillor Lovell said the dog owner tried to call the animal CONTINUED ON PAGE 3

LYME Regis Town Council has formally retracted its support for a pedestrian crossing in Broad Street, despite pleas from elderly and disabled residents. The council went back on its initial support for a puffin crossing at an extraordinary meeting called before Christmas, where several members of the public pleaded with them to consider the needs of the disabled and elderly.
