Designing a project this scale required a well-rounded design the program of this space not only included senior living quarters but space for the necessary resources for an older population and those who work in the space. This design aims to clearly seperate these two programs (workers and residents) while still intersecting the spaces. Workers and medical staff can easily circulate through the residences while having different wings for medical and auxillary activities seperate. As the residents require more assistance as they age, the layout of housing allows for different tiers of care. Each building is designated to those different tiers with proximity and space being the determning factors. The overall form was inspired by the woven forms of a basket. The building is made of a mass timber structural system with vaulted entry ways on the north and west sides of the site.

When given the task of designing a library for the small, dense neighborhood of Gracia, my partner, Hongxin Lyu and I wanted both make the building a space for people to gather and collaborate, but also relate it to the various different building heights of the area. The goal of the design was to bring a space for the comunity to congregate in the heart of the Barcelona enclave.With the site only being only about 15x12 meters, we made the choice to build up but take advantage of the warm climate along with the changing topography as you move closer to the mountains in the back.

During this joint workshop between European exchange students and members, we worked in teams of four to try and uncover solutions and strategies to prevent excessive uses for air conditioning in regions of Spain that are experiencing rising temperatures due to climate Change. Our design implements a mechanical flower-like design to move according to the amount of sunlight.

The idea behind this design was to take advantage of the abundance of sunlight on the sight. Being a small site, enclosed on three sides The design aims to provide as much natural light as possible with only one viewable facade. The building serves a mixed use purpose, with restaurant space on the first two floors and office space on the top two. In order to make the best use of the curtain window, the vestibule on the first floor is double height. The fragmented Curtain window serves to not only break up the light but provide unique and creative design that is noticed by those passing by.
