I don’t know about you, but as the news seems to get ever darker I am increasingly in the mood for theatre that not only reflects the world around us but also provides a big dollop of respite - epic, timeless tales of the human spirit that can bring us cheer, excite us and fortify us.
Welcome to
The Lyceum
I have put together a season of plays for next year with that aspiration in mind - some really big stories to bolster the spirits from a collection of names that deserve to be up in lights: William Shakespeare, Edmond Rostand, Edwin Morgan, J.M. Barrie, Ella Hickson, John Webster, Zinnie Harris and Bill Forsyth.
I feel sure these are stories that will captivate you as they have me and we will be pulling out all the stops to bring them to the stage in remarkable productions. I hope that they will be stories that stay with you, that you can carry into the future – talismans against troubled times!
