strategies
that

children’s
confidence
and
success
in
reading. Read out loud to your child. Listen to your child read. Echo read (you read a line, then they repeat). Read together at the same time. Reread or retell favorite stories. Talk to your child about the importance of reading. Ask questions about the reading. Talk
about
your
favorite
passages,
what
you
have
learned,
or
story
characters
and
what
they do. Talk about the pictures in the book and how they connect to the words on the page. Help connect the stories to your child’s life or other books you have read. Talk to and with your kids frequently. Hearing more words helps kids to better understand the words they read. Encourage writing. Help your children practice writing the sounds they hear. This will improve word recognition and spelling.

Although
this school year provided some challenges with Covid-19, the weather, and a bit of flooding, our mutual goal of student success has allowed us to finish the 2021-2022 school year strong.
The first day of instruction for the upcoming school year is Wednesday, August 10. Please enjoy the time with your children and have a safe summer break.
Yours in education,

Strategic Plan Launch This past winter, a group of over 50 LWISD stakeholders met over 4 days and endeavored to come up with a strategic plan that would ensure that all of us worked towards a common goal: Student Success!
Dr. Neshyba went "on the road" and presented the new plan to all stakeholders: campuses, admin, school board, and the community. Did you miss the presentation? Check in with your supervisor for more info.
The entire strategic plan can be found here: www.lwisd.org/strategy

CELEBRATE OUR TEACHERS OF THE YEAR! JOIN US IN CONGRATULATING OUR CAMPUS TEACHERS OF THE YEAR!
My teaching career started in the fall of 1995. I remember those first years of teaching as if they were yesterday. Twenty six years have passed since that first moment in front of my own class.
I
have
witnessed
the
enduring
desire
for
learning
with
all
of
my
students
through
the
years. Gail Sheehy once said “If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living.”
Several years ago was a pivotal time in my educational career when I was offered the chance to
start
teaching
forensics.
My
first
forensic
class
consisted
of
15
students.
For
the
past
6
years this course has grown to over 120 students split into 4 to 5 classes.
I have been able to attend classes at Sam Houston
State
University’s
body
farm
to
learn as much as possible about forensics. The knowledge I bring back and apply to my classes has been invaluable.
My
hope
is
to
continue
my
journey
as
an
educator for many more years. My name is Amy Graves. I am a life-long learner. I am a Lake Worth Bullfrog for life, because my

educators must adapt to their specific environment in order to create a safe environment for kids to learn. Furthermore, giving our students access to express themselves in times of need is very important. Our students in Lake Worth need positive people in their life who will always listen to them without judgement.
OUR MISSION LWISD empowers all learners through meaningful connections to discover their future and prepare for success. 4

who I am as a teacher today. During my first-year teaching, we had to switch to online school in March. I had to adapt and learn new ways of teaching school online and in the classroom the

Rosemary Torres, Howry STEAM Academy
My role as a teacher has evolved over my sixteen years in the classroom in the sense that I have gained more experience, knowledge and confidence. I am always working on something, either for my classroom or ideas to incentivize my students. First, I am more experienced with classroom management, creating lesson plans, and overall grade level structure to name a few things.
In addition, my knowledge of my subject as well as fourth graders as a whole has improved although
I

I
also

to

educational
opportunities to help me continue to improve my teaching skills. With
the
accumulation
of
knowledge
and
experience,
comes
confidence.
I
am
much
more
confident today than I was in my first few years of teaching, although I do still stress about testing or students experiencing “test stress”.

I've
also
evolved in terms of helping students make connections between what they are learning and how they can use it. I want the very best for my students and want them to grow as much as they possibly can.
I try to stay in daily communication with the parents so that they know how their child's day was, as well as what they did throughout the day. There are times that I may need input on different strategies and things that are working at home for their child so that we can utilize it

visa-versa.
I
think
that
being

with
my
parents at any moment not only helps me get to know my students better but also gives the parents more involvement with their child's education.
