I hope this message finds you in good health and high spirits! As your Illustrious Potentate, it brings me great joy to extend my warmest greetings and appreciation to each one of you. I greet you with Bravery, Courage with Valor illuminating “Class and Distinction in the Mobile City”. We’ve accomplished so much in one year. Looking back over the last 12 months, we see growth, accomplishment, and hard work! The global connection, the community service and involvement, the fundraising efforts (Double Good Popcorn), the socials, the chartering, the meetings, and most of all BCV.

A RECENT SUCCESS Shuja Temple No. 281 was organized on January 22, 2023, and received its dispensation to operate on February 17, 2023. The warrant of the constitution was issued on June 3, 2023, and presented on July 28, 2023.

In the spirit of unity and knowledge-sharing, I am delighted to continue our THOT Newsletter, a platform dedicated to celebrating our temple's and esteemed members' brilliance and accomplishments. Our mission at Shuja is not only to be guardians of #BCV but also to foster an environment of inclusivity, creativity, and growth. MESSAGE FROM THE EAST On January 22, 2023, several of us began a journey together. We grew from a circle of friends to a shrine club, to a UD temple then to a chartered temple. Was it fun, YES! Did it become challenging, really challenging, is it worth it, YES, It’s Worth it! Reflect on this for a moment:

We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing. Konstantin Josef Jireček, , us, challenged us, and bonded us across many states. Some said it could not The last almost seven months have grown be done but guess what Shuja did it. Some attempted to stop us but our creator gave us the strength to endure, and we have been unstoppable. Reflect on this for a moment:

Regardless of what they think, they know, that some of the best men in this country are members of Shuja Temple #281. What the devil meant for bad, GODamong is turning around for ouran good.

Shuja Temple No. 281 has accomplished so much over the last six months. We are living up to our moniker of “Class and Distinction”. We exemplify Bravery and Courage with Valor in everything we do in the organization!

Our Imperial Deputy of the Oasis has challenged us to do the work. Believe it or not, we are making serious strides and people are learning that Shuja Temple No. 281 is a groundbreaking temple that is exceeding expectations and raising the bar! The progress of Shuja is in the hands of the nobles of Shuja. The 45th Imperial Potentate graciously put the mantle in our hands and now we must carry it forward.

The City of College Park needs our philanthropic hand moving in every nook, crook, and cranny of the city. We must put boots on the ground with all hands-on deck. As we move through the next few months, we will have temple meetings every 2 nd Monday at 7 pm as well activities each month to uplift our service area. We will also connect with the cyber world through our virtual seminars and forums. We will do the work and it will be done with “Class and Distinction”. To encourage a forward movement, we want to implement our Temple awards that will be issued at our Temple’s Potentate Ball next summer.

Shuja’s New Home in the Oasis of College Park Shuja Temple No. 281 is thrilled to announce its new home within the Oasis of College Park, located at the College Park Public Safety Complex, 3721 College St, College Park, GA 30337.

This new space marks a significant chapter in our temple's journey, providing a central and welcoming hub for our noble fraternity. We invite all members to join us on the 2nd Monday night of each month at 7 pm for our regular meetings.

The College Park Public Safety Complex offers a conducive environment for fellowship, discussions, and the pursuit of our shared values. We look forward to creating lasting memories and building upon the rich traditions of Shuja Temple in our new home.

July 2023 Shuja Temple Men’s Health Seminar Knowledge is of two kinds. We know a subject ourselves or we know where to find the information. --Johnson As part of Illustrious Potentate La’Micheal V. Eddie’s platform S.T.A.N.D. Shuja Temple No. 281 on July 23, 2023. hosted a Men's Health Virtual Forum that featured esteemed guests and speakers, including Deputy Imperial Potentate Dr. Donald R. Ware (5), Imperial Deputy of the Desert H.P.I.P. Anthony C. Kelly (142), Illustrious Potentate Abraham Johnson (283), and Rev. Dr. G. Lucian Ward (281). The event focused on raising awareness about men's health issues and promoting strategies for improving overall well-being among men in the community. It aimed to address various physical, mental, and emotional health challenges that men may encounter and advocate for proactive healthcare approaches.

Key highlights of the virtual event include: Expert Panel Discussions: The event commenced with a series of expert panel discussions featuring Dr. Donald R. Ware, H.P.I.P. Anthony C. Kelly, I.P. Shuja Temple No. 281 Charter Ceremony July 28, 2023 Shuja Temple No. 281 officially presented its warrant of constitution on Friday, July 28, 2023, by Imperial Captain of the Guard Mario L. Eury and Imperial Deputy of Desert HPIP Anthony C. Kelly, at 7 p.m. at the Comfort Inn Conference. The following nobles were present: L.V. Eddie Bernard F. Postell, Cleophus M.E. Lewis, Dr. G. Lucian Ward-Hollis, Lando Goins, Erik D. Dennis, Teron Laidler, Demetrius T.R. Snell, Kirk L. Wilcox, Corey F. Wimberly, and Imperial Deputy of the Oasis Noble Marvin E. Jones. After the meeting, the nobles took pictures and later fellowshipped over dinner.

Noble of the Year, Golden Scimitar, & Illustrious Potentate’s Award SHUJA, we must do the work! “Don’t Get Left At The Docks!” The ship to our future is already in port; your ticket to ride is a positive attitude; a sense of growth; brotherly love; and the will to work -KMY As we move forward, nobles who exemplify excellence towards "Making the Temple Better" will be eligible for the Noble of the Year Award, G. S. & IPs Award. The Divan shall select five names of members who have merited in one of the following areas: attendance, financial commitment, community service, fundraising, & overall service to the Temple for the Noble of the Year. The noble receiving the most votes from the Lodge by paper ballot shall be declared Noble of the Year. The winners and nominees shall be honored at the IP Ball in July. The Temple shall decide on what Gratuity will be given. The winners are not eligible for next year’s nomination. The Past Potentate and or (Imperial Deputy of the Oasis until the PP Council is established) shall name the recipient for the Golden Scimitar Award and the Illustrious Potentate shall do the same for IP's Award.

Nobles who have exceptional attendance shall receive the ES Award for SA Attendance and shall be awarded (10%) off their local dues and become a nominee for the Noble of the Year. This honor is earned by attending Eight (8) consecutive meetings on time, beginning on the first stated meeting in January and remaining until the meeting closes. NOTE: On-time means when the Illustrious Potentate calls the meeting to Order by one rap of the Gavel, and remaining until closed means staying until the Illustrious Potentate raps the gavel and says good evening, Nobles.

AUGUST 2023 Southside Back2School Extravaganza Tuesday, August 1, 2023 Shuja partners with 2Chainz T.R.U. Foundation August 1, 2023 - Shuja Temple No. 281, made a groundbreaking partnership with the T.R.U. Foundation, founded by the renowned rapper 2 Chainz. Together, we are hosting a Southside Back 2 School Extravaganza, an event dedicated to empowering and supporting the youth of our community as they prepare to return to school.

The T.R.U. (The Real University) Foundation, founded by the renowned rapper 2 Chainz, is committed to making a positive impact on the lives of underserved youth across the Metro Atlanta Area. Through its various initiatives, the foundation provides resources and opportunities that empower young minds and set them on a path to success.

Southside Back 2 School Extravaganza: The Southside Back 2 School Extravaganza took place on August 2, 2023, at ESCO Bar in Morrow, Georgia. This event was designed to equip the youth of our community with essential tools and resources to excel academically and creatively in the upcoming school year. The Extravaganza will feature: School Supplies Giveaway: Each student attending the event received True Religion sports gear and backpacks, Jordan Shoes, haircuts for boys, and hair braiding for girls filled with essential school supplies to start the year with confidence and enthusiasm.

Youth Talent Showcase: A platform for our talented youth to showcase their skills and creativity, fostering a sense of confidence and self-expression.

Entertainment and Special Guests: The event will be highlighted by a performance from 2Chainz who advocate for youth development.

Community Resource Fair: Local organizations and community partners will be present to provide information about their services and support available to families in need.

A Message from Shuja Temple No. 281: "We are thrilled to collaborate with the T.R.U. Foundation to host the Southside Back 2 School Extravaganza. Our goal was to create an inspiring and enjoyable event that would positively impact the lives of the youth in our community. By partnering with the T.R.U. Shuja Temple No. 281 participated in the 130th Imperial Session in Tampa, Florida.

Representatives from the Shuja were Illustrious Potentate L.V. Eddie, Chief Rabban Bernard F. Postell, Assistant Rabban Cleophus M.E. Lewis, High Priest and Prophet Dr. G. Lucian Ward-Hollis, Recorder Quantral M. Fletcher, Jr. and Imperial Deputy of the Oasis Marvin E. Jones.

A Look at the 130th Imperial Session Cont.

Shuja Temple No. 281 represented the Oasis of College Park with Class and Distinction at the 130th Imperial Session. Shuja delegation represented the temple with candor, zeal, and uniformity. IP Eddie contacted the convention coordinator and was able to get rooms moved to the Daughters Headquarters right on site that Marriot. Shuja was able to be in the midst of all the Imperial Fellowship. This was a session for the books. Hard, hard, decisions were made. These tough decisions led to some corrections, realignment, and possible reappointments.

The highlights were the hospitalities, desert gatherings, and entertaining displays from temples and courts throughout the domain. The paraphernalia was first rate and the various auxiliaries of the organization were in full swing. It was a proud weekend to be a Prince Hall Shriner. Imperial Session proved to be something, you had to experience for yourself. The Imperial Divan remained intact; however, the Daughters concluded their session with a host of new members to their Imperial Court Divan.

Shuja Court No. “A Vision Come True” During her final allocation on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, Imperial Commandress Daughter Paulette Brown honored the request of Illustrious Potentate La’Micheal V. Eddie in chartering Shuja Court in the Oasis for College Park, Desert of Georgia.

Shuja Court will be organized as a full-fledged court and will join Shuja Temple No. 281 in its quest for Class and Distinction in the Global City with Bravery, Courage with Valor.

Class and Distinction is a relationship not a title, BCV and C&D in the Mobile City are we!

Meeting with the Mayor of College Park, establishing Class and Distinction in the Global City

IP La’Micheal V. Eddie met with the College Park Mayor Madam Bianca Motley Broom on Tuesday, August 19, 2023, at 1 p.m. to begin a lasting partnership with the city. Special thanks to Noble Corey Wimberly for connecting us with this partnership. The partnership between the City of College Park and Shuja Temple No. 281 represents a symbiotic relationship where both organizations collaborate to enhance community engagement and foster a sense of belonging among the residents. For the City of College Park, this collaboration brings in the expertise, resources, and community outreach efforts of Shuja Temple No. 281. The temple's active involvement in local events, charitable initiatives, and cultural programs amplifies the city's community-driven initiatives. Shuja Temple No. 281 contributes not only financial support but also valuable volunteer manpower, enriching the city's events with diverse perspectives and cultural experiences.

Conversely, for Shuja Temple No. 281, partnering with the City of College Park opens up avenues for increased visibility and community impact. The temple gains access to a broader audience through the city's promotional channels and events. Collaborating on city-led projects allows the temple to align its philanthropic efforts with the city's strategic goals, ensuring their contributions are targeted and meaningful. October Program: Cigars with Shuja - Supporting a Black Business in College Park and Meeting the Community.

The "Cigars with Shuja Temple No. 281 Interest Meeting" presents a unique opportunity for community engagement and economic support. By partnering with a Black-owned business in College Park, this event not only fosters camaraderie among the attendees but also contributes to the local economy.

The interest meeting serves as a platform for members and participants to connect, share ideas, and discuss future initiatives, all within the welcoming ambiance of a local Black business. December Programs: Desert Retreat and Leadership Training, Christmas Parade-Canceled, Christmas Caroling at a local Convalescent Center, Elections, and Installation Shuja Temple No. 281 is planning our first Desert Retreat and Leadership Training Weekend January 26-27, 2024, in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Shuja was assigned the color Indigo.

Shuja Temple No. 281 was scheduled to participate in the College Park 47th Annual College Park Christmas Parade with the 2023 Grand Marshal 2 Chainz & TRU Foundation INC. The City canceled the parade due to inclement weather.

Shuja Temple No. 281 Christmas with the Seniors of College Park Shuja Temple No. 281 planned its first Christmas with the Seniors of College Park under the direction of Assistant Rabban Cleophus M.E. Lewis at the College Park Health Center. The mission of Christmas caroling and playing bingo with the seniors of the City of College Park at the College Park Health Center is likely centered around spreading joy, fostering community connection, and providing companionship during the holiday season.

The activity aims to bring festive cheer to seniors, particularly those in healthcare facilities, who may benefit from social interaction and entertainment. It often serves to celebrate the holiday spirit, share music and laughter, and create a positive and engaging atmosphere for seniors who may be away from their families during this time.
