ABOVE: President Thayne welcomed the Class of 2021 at Opening Convocation on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 2 p.m. The Class of 2021 was a record-breaking class with 517 students.
Dear Students: Congratulations to the Class of 2021 and a warm welcome to all students of Lebanon Valley College! We have spent the summer preparing for your arrival and getting the campus ready for a great fall semester. Every member of this community is committed to your success as an individual student. We will do everything we can to help you succeed. Ultimately, it will be your own commitment to excellence that will make all the difference.
At Lebanon Valley, you will be connected through the faculty to a world of knowledge, to learning skills that will last a lifetime, to work that is being done at the limits of your major and to the experience of students in your generation in a global society. You have chosen a college with a well-deserved reputation for academic quality and an ethos of active engagement in learning, service, athletics, the arts and leadership development. By long tradition, our students are em-
powered to pursue a life of learning, citizenship and success. Each of you has a voice that will define your LVC experience. I encourage you to be active contributors in the life of the College. I look forward to supporting your efforts and seeing your growth throughout the next four years. Sincerely, Lewis E. Thayne, Ph.D. President
Welcome from Student Affairs Greetings and welcome to the start of the 2017 -18 academic year! I hope you had an enjoyable summer and are ready for what will surely be a great school year. Special welcome to the more than 500 new members of the LVC community. The Division of Student Affairs is here to support and engage our students in all aspects of their out-of-class experiences. Our Departments include: intercollegiate athletics, recreation/intramurals, student activities, leadership development, spiritual life, volunteerism/service, intercultural affairs, health services, counseling, public safety, food service, residential life and career development. To optimize your student experience, it is key to fully immerse yourself into this community, find clubs/organizations or activities that provide opportunity to connect with your peers, develop interest and leadership and, of course, have fun! Your time at LVC is also about outcomes. At the end of your time you want to be prepared for the “next step.” Whether it be graduate school or employment, preparation is key. Make sure you are working with our Career Development staff to identify opportunities that will support you in working toward your goals. It seems like the world around us is full of tensions, often rooted in hate. Welcome from Student Affairs continued on Page 6
