Вольный и Ганзейский город Гамбург и его значимый порт стремительно развиваются не только экономически, но и культурно. Растущее

The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg Hamburg is a delightful city — second in size only to Germany’s capital, Berlin, and seventh within the European Union. Hamburg’s long tradition of commerce offers excellent business opportunities for its citizens, visitors and investors. Until recently Hamburg was one of Europe’s largest port cities. The Elbe River flows through Hamburg, on its way to the North Sea, and both sides of the city, and its canals, are linked by countless bridges. An eight-lane North-South traffic tunnel also crosses the Elbe. The city center consists of two parts; the Old City and the New City. These are divided by the Alster River which flows into the Elbe. A major part of its ancient buildings remain; the finest example is the proud Town Hall, built during the Renaissance era. It is located on Town Hall Square and is surrounded

by St. Catherine’s church, St. Michel’s church, St. Nicholai’s church, St. Jakobi church, St. Paul’s church and the Church of Christ. Hamburg has seventeen institutes of higher learning; among them, The Academy of Music and Theatre, the University of Applied Sciences and Hamburg Technical University. Furthermore, there are several private colleges, and other tertiary academies, which include religious and special institutes such as the military academy — Helmut Schmidt University. Hamburg is also famous for its civilian aerospace industry, represented by two prosperous companies: EADS and Airbus. Publishing houses, ‘Der Spiegel’ and ‘Stern’, and one of the Europe’s largest mail-order trading companies, ‘OTTO’ all have their home in Hamburg.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HAMBURG We Mean Business The Chamber of Commerce provides a range of services. These include basic company matters: start-ups, legal and taxation questions, inheritance issues. We also dispense advice on innovation and patent matters and provide export solutions. As a rule we deal with the issues on behalf of the state, and above all, we solve problems. We conduct professional further education examinations, administer the oath of office to certification experts and arrange the issuance of export certificates. The Chamber of Commerce bears responsibility for maintaining market control and for enforcing rules to monitor economic policy. This means: We are the independent supervisors of trade. Being at the hub of foreign business activities, Hamburg plays a vital role in transportation and trade negotiations between Russia and Germany. Germany is represented by 120 trade chambers in 80 countries. They form the world’s foremost business networking system. German trade chambers contribute enormously to the national economy as they provide access to German products on the world market. They are closely 024
linked to various business associations and are, thus, able to provide far-reaching assistance and support. As these chambers work at establishing international business opportunities, they accord due respect and recognition to the inherent characteristics of different countries. Although the Chambers of Commerce of Germany and Russia play only a supporting role, in promoting trade between the two nations, they contribute greatly to the improvement of diplomatic relations. The Russo-German export Chamber of Commerce is a private non-profit organization open to all Russian and German organizations wishing to take an active interest. It provides consultation services, and other forms of assistance, to business people who wish to set up companies in either, or both countries. All members of the chamber pay membership dues. The German Chamber has a representative office in St. Petersburg. The Russo-German export trade chamber has its own branches in St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad in the North West, and in Novosibirsk. The North West part of Russia includes Arkhangelsk, Pskov, Vologda, Murmansk, Novgorod, Komi, Karelia and Nenets Autonomous regions. This territory has around
14 million residents and is the second most important region, after Moscow. Additionally, the German Chambers of Commerce provide assistance to young people in the field of education, and to young professionals during their probationary period in Hamburg. There is also an educational course on, ‘International Business Law’ in St. Petersburg.

SHOPPING IN HAMBURG Seasoned ‘shopaholics’ never fail to include Hamburg among their travel destinations. Kontorhäuser — a Hanseatic district — will cater to the most sophisticated taste. Its fashionable and luxurious shops offer high class shopping at its finest. Neuer Wall and Mönckeberg street are equally excellent shopping locations.

Jungfernstieg Street This landmark street has always been famous for its shops and lakefront promenade. Hamburger Hof center offers a great choice of shoes, leather articles and everything else that a worthwhile voyage requires. In the western part of downtown there are the Kaufhof Gallery, Hanse Viertel, Gansemarkt Arcade, Alte Post Arcade and Alsterhaus shopping emporium. Europa Passage arcade is another multi-level shopping center with more than a hundred shops to choose from. Hamburg’s famous ‘Fish Market’, down alongside the Elbe, has been in business for three hundred years. Don’t miss it! It’s the place to rub shoulders with a microcosm of German people and get to know the locals. A mouth-watering selection of fish and seafood is available. The fish restaurants offer excellent meals. And, of course, a choice of souvenirs is on sale, too. Opening times for shops are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays. Saturdays vary; closing time between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Shops are generally closed on public holidays and Sundays.

EVENTS / праздники German Derby (09. – 12.05.2013) Equestrian sports have their own tradition in Germany. Naturally, Hamburg presents the climax of the equestrian season: The Deutsche Derby. This is a week of intense excitement for horse lovers and race fans, set to begin on June 29th, and ending on July 7th. The hippodrome in Hamburg-Horn is the location. Other equestrian venues are Klein Flottbek and the ever popular Bahrenfeld Trotting Track. These first-rate events are usually accompanied by the ‘Hansepferd’ expo which draws dedicated visitors to Hamburg from near and far.

‘Harbour Birthday’ is an institution with an eight-hundred-year tradition. Held each May, this festival attracts thousands of visitors and sailing vessels from around the world—from giant three or more mast full square-rigged ships, and large iron-hulled windjammers, built to carry cargo in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries to state-of-the-art sail and motor yachts.
Five hundred food and beverage stalls, scattered along the harbor-front, provide the visitor with international gastronomic delights. Theatrical presentations, featuring famous performers, are conducted for children, teenagers and adults. Flying exhibitions are very popular, too. They include helicopters, hot-air ballooning and parachuting.

Dom Market The DOM fun-fair is held three times a year, in spring, summer and in winter, at the Heiligengeistfeld. This tradition dates back the fourteenth century when merchants presented their exotic wares from far-away places, jugglers entertained the crowds with their skills, and magicians mystified the public with their tricks. This all took place within the shadow of the Marien Cathedral. This tradition existed until the nineteenth century when fire destroyed the area. Later the Heiligengeistfeld square was chosen to replace the former site and every year many thousands of visitors flock there for fun, and thrills. Spring DOM Summer DOM Winter DOM

Schlagermove (28. – 29.06.2013) Hamburg’s ‘Schlagermove’ festival takes place every July. It begins on Friday night and continues through Saturday. In the morning thousands of people of Hamburg, buses, cars, festooned with ribbons, flags and balloons, take part in a parade. People usually dance to rhythmic music and sing favorite songs. On Saturday evening people will go to different squares to sing current pop songs, or the popular hits of yesteryear.
Kiel Week has a tradition dating back to 1882. In 1895 the German Kaiser, Wilhelm II, gave royal patronage to the annual rowing and sailing regatta held in Kiel. Since then Kieler Woche has grown to an event which quickens the pulse of competitive sailors, and yachtsmen, the world over. Furthermore, the carnival atmosphere of this week of festivities also attracts music fans from all over northern Europe. On evenings, during Kieler Woche, the bayside open-air live concerts are free and immensely popular by visitors and locals from all walks of life.

Holidays and festivals are the essential part of any city. This holiday, borrowed from Japan’s, ‘Cherry Blossom Festival’, is said to be one of the most beautiful in Northern Europe. It all began when the Japanese Government presented the citizens of Hamburg with a cherry tree sapling. Decades have passed and the humble sapling has grown to a sturdy tree, along with thousands of other decorative cherry trees, scattered throughout the city. During the springtime cherry blossom season each cherry tree becomes a bouquet of tender pink. The climax of ‘Cherry Blossom Festival’ is a spectacular fireworks display, reflected in the waters of Lake Alster, and attended by huge crowds from far and wide.

Reeperbahn & St. Pauli The most famous street of Hamburg got its name from the old german word reep which means an old heavy rope for a ship. During 1600 and 1880 the space north of today’s street Reeperbahn was used as a ropewalk for the production of ropes for the nearby harbour. If you come here, you may find everything, one can get interested in: night clubs and discos, yuppie-bars, business, shops and erotic stuff, Hafenstrasse, a variety of theatres in Kiez and Schanzenviertel district and St. Pauli football club in St. Pauli area which provides
visitors with an atmosphere of freedom of movement. There were many theatres (e.g. “St. Paulitheatre”), beer halls, ballhouses and musicpalaces which attract not only the citizens of Hamburg more and more, but also sailors from the ships at Hamburg Harbour. If you walk to Hafen city, drop in the Navy museum. It is a large (ten thousand m²) place with 10-floor exhibition where one can learn a lot about three thousand years of the navy history and navigation. It is better to sign up for a visit in advance.

Ernst Barlach (1870-1938), a famous German artist, sculptor and writer who created numerous sculptures and graphic works. St. John of Kronstadt, the most famous Russian saint of St. Petersburg, is the patron of the church in Hamburg.

PARKS / Парки отдыха The many parks of Hamburg are distributed over the whole city. Hamburg is green metropolis of the North Germany. The biggest parks are the Stadtpark, the Ohlsdorf Cemetery and Planten un Blomen. The Stadtpark, Hamburg’s «Central Park», has a great lawn and a huge water tower, which houses one of Europe’s biggest planetaria. The park and its buildings were designed by Fritz Schumacher in the 1910s.

You should come to Hagenbeck zoo by all means whenever you are an adult or a child. If you have any fruit or vegetable and you are not scared, you can even feed elephants. In addition to this, recently “An Adventure Aquarium” has been set up in the zoo.

Jenish park is in Nienstedten district near the Elba river which is also famous for Ernst Barlach museum was founded by Hamburg sponsor Hermann Reemstma. The park was previously a private garden of the Jenischs.

The main street of the park is named after a businessman Baron Voght who made a great contribution in the park construction. He fenced the park with lanes and remote place for romantic dates. Later on Baron handed the over to senator M. Jenisch. And in 1831 Jenisch started building a fabulous white cubic house. Nowadays this house is a place where people come for concerts and exhibitions.

CITY POR TRAIT Lüneburg Lüneburg is a town in the German state of Lower Saxony. It is located about 50 km from city of Hamburg. Lüneburg lies on the river Ilmenau, the tributary of the Elbe. In the Middle Ages the town was very famous for salt trade, which made Lüneburg, the capital of the Braunshweig-Lüneburg duchy, a prosperous territory. In 1356 the town was accepted to Hanseatic League due to its geographic position and economic importance. In the XVI-XVII centuries, Lüneburg was the capital of the Braunshweig-Lüneburg duchy, governed by the Welves. But with the transmission of this capital to Hannover, the influence of the town
was tremendously decreased. What is peculiar, Johann Sebastian Bach was studying there in St Michael’s church choir from 1700 till 1703 and also he chanced to get acquainted to George Bohm, a German organist and composer, who influenced the life of Bach greatly. In 1815 Lüneburg people invested money in Lüneburg battalion foundation, which took part in Waterloo battle later on. Actually, the salt production was over only in 1980 which meant the end to the ancient craft and town business. Now there is The German Salt Museum in the old salt mine. Some time later, in 1989 there was a university founded in Lüneburg. The Lüneburg Heath surrounds the town. It is unusual for the lack of woods which were cut before for the salt industry use. The historical part of the town is worth watching, as it has typical roman ‘post-and-beam’ (fachwerk) houses, especially the one which is The Town Hall, one of the most beautiful monuments of the Middle Ages.

Hanseatic City of Lübeck
Many centuries ago it used to be the largest harbor of Europe. Back in the days it used to be the largest harbor of Europe. The town council of Lübeck enacted laws for the whole territory of the Baltic Sea. Thus, it was so powerful that it had the ascendancy in the Hanseatic League from XIII up to XVII when the league broke up. At those times, Lübeck had a name of “The Queen of Hanse” and it attracted a lot of merchants. Even the architecture of the town

demonstrates it. Though during the Second World War the bombardment destroyed approximately the quarter of the Old city, which is surrounded by the Trave river and artificial water ditch. In the Middle Aged water was the main source of Lübeck’s prosperity. In 1276-1286 the town people donated money to The Holy Spirit hospital, which was the first one built in Germany. The interior of the hospital is a unique mixture of gables and high sharp turrets. The brick building technology was
brought to Northern Germany by French monks in the XII century. For example, such details as pattern borders on churches were made of brick for decoration. The Town Hall of Lübeck is made of enamel black and unglazed red brick in turn. Two famous Lubeck writers Henrich and Tomas Mann were born in Mengstrasse in one of merchant’s houses in the XIX century.
