Choosing the Right Golf Balls There is nothing worse for golfers than wasting a good swing.

aybe it was a perfect drive on the range right before tee off. Maybe it was that perfect practice swing. Or maybe, just maybe, you wasted a good swing because your golf ball was not suited for the situation, or was piece of junk altogether. I see far too many instances where a player uses the wrong type of ball. They might have the Great Big Bertha, some space age composite irons, or even the fancy wing-tipped shoes, but if the golf ball does not suit the player or the circumstance, then the overall outcome of the shot will be adversely affected. There are essentially three types

6

of balls: balata, two-piece, or a combination of both. Basically, there are two things to consider when choosing the correct ball: • What are you looking for? Are you a low handicap looking for ultimate spin and control? If so, choose a balata. This is essentially just a softer ball, which has a softer cover and allows for more spin. This is what Tiger and a lot of the big boys play (They are also quite a bit more expensive). If you are a higher handicap, you will be looking more for distance and durability. This is where a good twopiece ball will be best. This ball has a harder cover, and hence creates less backspin, which allows for you to hit

it farther.

• The elements?

It’s important to look at things like the weather and the course conditions when choosing a ball. If, say, the course has been deluged with rain, then you will need a ball that will travel farther and produces less spin. If you are playing on a rock hard, sun-scorched track, choose something softer that will land soft and spin. Also, keep in mind things like the temperature. If it’s cold out, the ball will not compress as much, so you would want to play a 90-compression. (there are two compressions for men, 90 and 100.) Vice-versa if it’s hot out. Here are my recommendations for golf balls:

Balata - Maxfli HT or Titleist Professional Half balata, half two piece - Precept EV Extra Spin or Titleist HP2 Tour Two-piece - Maxfli MD or Wilson Staff TC2 There are more and more pros nowadays going from the pure balata to the half-and-half ball. It’s a great type of ball and something I recommend for any playing ability.

Remember, you can cut off a few strokes per round by doing nothing more than choosing the correct ball. It’s a good idea to keep a few of each in your bag and practice with them. Learn how they feel. See how you like them. Figure out which one to use so you can get an edge on your playing partners even before you tee off. «

How To Drive a Golf Ball Practice makes perfect.

T

he tee shot is the ego shot in golf. Learning how to drive a golf ball far is way up on the list for most beginning golfers. The only problem is most amateur and beginner golfers drive it way shorter than they want to, because their golf swing technique is not proper to encourage longer golf drives. Strengthen Your Golf Grip: One very effective way to quickly improve driving distance is to have a proper golf grip. The preference is a strong one so you can rotate the clubface over through impact encouraging a draw and more yards when it hits the ground. Golf Ball Position Forward To promote maximum launch angle you need an ascending blow on the golf ball. Positioning it up in your stance, just inside your left heel will make it much easier to hit “up on the ball”. Spine TIlt This is where beginner golfers screw up. Instead of a spine angle away from the target at impact, many have wither a vertical one, or even worse, one that is more towards the target, encouraging a descending blow resulting in pop ups. That’s just a few simple golf tips to get you on the right track to hitting your golf drives long and straight. « 14

How About That Swing? “For he who has no tranquility there is no concentration” - Bahgavad Gita

ave you ever had the perfect game, or more probably, the perfect hole?

The kind of hole that right off the tee, you felt incredible and were setup just perfectly for a birdie or maybe even an eagle? I mean the kind of hole, say 350 yards out, up about 20 yards from the pin? Then you chip up and you’re about two feet away, then tap it in for a birdie? Well, what happened and why don’t you do that on every hole? Let’s talk about it. We know the pros do it. We know it’s possible. Why don’t we do this on every hole? The answer is found in both concentration and confidence. The most difficult thing we have to do on the golf course is concentrate, or just focus on the ball for the split second we are going to connect the club head with the ball. The trouble is, we start letting other things creep into our mind and they build up and then, right at the start of out backswing, they flood into our mind and “hmmmph”

16

we top the ball or hit it fat. But why? Well, it’s SO easy to explain and SO hard to execute: but it’s about blocking everything out from the ball forward in my opinion and that is not so simple. Let me explain. I was typically so concerned with where my ball ended up, that I found I had developed that habit of thinking about where I wanted the ball to go after I hit it. I noticed the more I seemed to concentrate and try to hit the ball correctly, the worse I did. Then, a strange thing happened one day. I was a bit angry with myself and I felt, “damn, it does not really matter what I do, so I’m just going to hit the ball. I don’t care about any practice swings at all!” During these types of shots, replete with its fits of anger, I jumped off the cart, ripped the club out of my bag, promptly walked over to the ball, addressed it, and swung, all in the matter of about 20 seconds. Imagine my surprise when, the ball flew perfectly and went where I needed it to be. «

Food Choices for Maximum Energy ...Especially when you need it the most.

f you are not an athlete or a serious sports fanatic, you might think that food choices that give the maximum energy are not your main concern. However, if you are always on the go, you will actually find yourself yearning for more energy throughout the day, especially if you are still looking at the prospect of several hours of overtime and you already feel like hitting the sack. Most likely, you will think of getting another cup of coffee or downing an entire chocolate bar, thinking the extra sugar will give you the boost you need, and then wind up disappointed when it only manages to give you an energy boost for an hour or less.

overall low energy levels instead of the energy boost you are looking for. Instead of reaching for that chocolate bar, you will likely be better off finding foods that are high in complex carbohydrates; an example would be potatoes and sweet potatoes. Of course, French fries may be made of potatoes but taking much of them will spell added inches on your waist line, while also giving your heart added strain from the added fat. Baked potatoes will be the better option. In terms of breads, whole-wheat options are best, as they take longer to digest while giving you the energy you need.

The following food items are the best things you can opt for when you are in need of a serious energy boost:

2. Proteins go best for a heavy breakfast and lunch. Protein-rich food, like meat, eggs, fish, poultry, nuts, and seeds, are enough to give you the energy you need for the tasks throughout the day. As such, you would be wise to stock up on them early in the day, instead of waiting for the time when you are already sluggish and craving sweets! Just be sure to pick lean cuts of meat, and opt for your poultry and fish without the skin, as they do nothing but give you added fat.

1. Complex carbohydrates are actually better choices than simple carbohydrates like sugars and processed flour. Indeed, many people think candies and sugary juices will give them the energy they need, as seen by children who become hyperactive from too much sweets consumed in one sitting. However, these foods, along with pastries and baked goods that are high in white sugar may result in complications for your body’s processing of blood sugar, giving you 18

3. Listen to your mom’s voice telling you to finish your vegetables. Hands-

down, green leafy veggies are still the winner when it comes to giving you the energy you need. This is because they are usually rich in magnesium as well as B vitamins. You can pick from spinach, broccoli, beet greens, mustard greens, or just about any green leafy thing that grows in the ground. With this in mind, you can actually enjoy your salad greens with greater gusto. 4. Be sure you get plenty of water. Everyone knows the daily requirement of 8 glasses of water, but if you are doing plenty of energy-sapping tasks, feel free to down more than that. While you may opt for sugary sodas and juices when doing heavy tasks, water will actually do you the greater good, as it helps in waking you up and actually answers thirst much better than the former. Sugary drinks will only make you feel more sluggish

and even increase your thirst. Experts recommend getting a drink of water, preferably in room temperature, whenever you feel a sense of mental fogginess, or when fatigue starts to sink in. Cold water has been shown to slow down digestion, so it would be best to take your water in room temperature instead. These food choices will likely help you maximize your energy, especially when you need it the most. However, it is not limited to the times when you are already desperate for an energy boost; if you can develop these healthy eating habits on a regular basis, you will find that your energy levels are maximized that you would not even need the extra boost for the extra working hours on special days, as you would have plenty of energy stocked away for those times! Great Ideas to Help You Choose Great Gifts For Golfers

D

o you have a family member or friend who is a golfer?

Do you need a gift idea for an upcoming special day or occasion? Is so, here are a few tips to help you get a great gift that your special golfer will love. If weather permits you could give your golfer a day of golf. You can call their favorite golf course and reserve a tee time and send them golfing. What could be more enjoyable to a golf enthusiast than a day of golf? If the weather does not permit going golfing on the special day you could get a coupon to give that lets them have a free day of golf, on you, whenever the weather is appropriate and the golfer can go. Either way this is a great gift for someone who loves to golf. You may want to think about purchasing your golfer a new pair of pants, a shirt, socks, or even shoes to wear on their next outing. You will want to make sure the shirt, pants, and or socks are made out of comfortable cotton so that the golfer can move easily. When purchasing these items make sure you get the correct sizes. If the clothes don’t fit right it will just cause problems when they are trying to golf. You will also want to choose the correct style and color to meet the needs and likes of the golfer. If this is a gift you would like to get, but don’t 22

know the correct sizes you may want to talk to someone who may know, or choose a different great gift. Accessories such as sunglasses, visors or watches are other great ideas. If you buy sunglasses you will want to make sure they are not concave, as this will alter the golfers sight. Obviously you would not want to do this, as sight is very important in the game of golf. A watch is also a gift you could give. A watch would be useful on or off the golf course. One gift we you should not buy would be a set of clubs or a bag. Most golfers already have these items and do not need another. Golfers also usually have their own preference on what kind of clubs they want or need. The chance that you will buy the correct club is pretty slim. It is better if the golfer picks out their own clubs so that they can test them out and get a feel for them before they are purchased. You may even choose to go the high tech route. You can get gadgets that will help improve your golfers game. You may also want to think about a golfing game that can be played at home. This is not as good as actually getting to golf, but can be played no matter what the weather is like. Another route would be to get one of those putting greens that can be used indoors. If you visit a sports or golf store I’m sure you will find a great gift for you golfer. If you are not sure what your golfer needs you can always get them a gift card to their favorite golf shop so that they can get what they need. «

How Simple Golf Stretches Can Add Yards to Your Drives uickly improve your golf game by stretching your golf muscles regularly.

What’s the difference between a “golf stretch” and an everyday stretch? The answer to this question may be your missing link to a great game and years of enjoyment instead of frustration and weak attempts at quitting the game. The key is to do golf stretches daily. Yes, that’s right - daily! It will take you only a few minutes to get them done, but the improvement in your game can be quick and dramatic. The return on this investment (of time) is well worth it.

24

Now, which stretches to do to get the quickest return? That’s a personal issue. Everyone has different limitations. Some are backswing related, others are follow through issues or even maintaining your golf posture. I’m going to list a couple of golf stretches that will help you prevent back pain and increase your backswing range of motion for longer drives. • The first golf stretch is the Lying Leg Crossover: -- Lie on back with legs extended. -- Raise one leg and bend at knee to

» Luxury life of Miami

90 degrees in knee and hip. -- Cross that leg over extended leg, while opposite shoulder stays on ground. -- Go until you feel a slight pull in the butt and lower back. -- Hold for 15 seconds and repeat once more. -- Switch legs and do opposite side. This simple golf stretch will not only make your back feel better, but it will improve your ability to make a bigger turn, with less hip movement, creating torque and energy.

wrist and make as big a turn on backswing as you can. -- Hold for at least 15 seconds, repeat once more. -- Switch to your other side, going the opposite direction, for the follow through. This simple golf stretch will loosen up the muscles in the back of your shoulders and your upper back (lats), for more freedom on both your backswing and follow through.

• The second golf stretch is the Backswing Stretch:

Do these two stretches daily and you’ll start seeing improvement in your game, including more yards off the tee.

-- Extend left arm (for right-handers) out in front of you. -- Take right hand and put under left wrist. -- Pull with right hand against left

Note: These are only two golf stretches isolating certain areas of the body. To get the full benefit for your golf game, you need to do golf stretches for each muscle group. «

The Wonders of Walking

alking, the very basic movement that every human being learns from his first year of age, has almost always been overlooked, usually being taken as a lowimpact exercise only for the aged who can no longer jump and run. Therefore it is often misperceived to offer few benefits to the body. However, there are several important reasons why walking is actually among the best, if not the best, exercise choice: 1. Anyone can do it, even those with serious medical conditions. Since walking is second nature to every human being, this means everyone who can walk can do it as exercise. Everyone who thinks of starting an exercise program needs to consult a physician, and walking is among those that every doctor will recommend to just about anyone. It can be done in the capacity of the specific individual, and as long as he is capable of doing it. 2. There is no need to purchase expensive gear or tools, nor does it require any enrollment fees or mem-

26

bership premiums. Of course, good walking shoes are essential in order to lessen the impact of the steps, but other than that and perhaps a trusty, handy water bottle, anyone is good to go. Some serious walkers may make use of a pedometer, but that is just an added luxury, or sometimes a motivator for the walking fanatic. 3. It does not matter if you live in the city of in the countryside, there will always be places where you can go walking. Urban brisk-walking is fast becoming a trend, with more and more health enthusiasts pumping their arms to the beat of music from iPods and mp3 players plugged to their ears. For those who prefer clean breathing space, the oval tracks at the local sports center are a good idea, and the rubber flooring provides a softer impact for sensitive feet. 4. Walking as a form of exercise is also good in the sense that it can be sustained for long periods of time, much longer than other more strenuous aerobic exercises. Health experts explain that there is a minimum

Âť Luxury life of Miami

time of increased heart rate that will produce the greatest benefit for the body, pegged to be between twenty and thirty minutes on the average. The low-impact effect of walking means even the most amateur exercise enthusiast will be able to keep at it for that minimum amount of time. The benefits that it gives to the body can sometimes be comparable to that of a shorter but harder running or jogging workout. 5. It can easily be slipped into just about anyone’s busy schedule. Yes, although there may be a minimum time limit for maximized effectiveness, experts also point out health benefits from sudden increase in activity. For example, from a slow pace of walking, sudden bursts of speed at some points trigger a response in the cardiovascular system. This makes it perfect for people with super-busy

lifestyles, who have no time to go to the gym or attend aerobics classes that last at least an hour and a half. Walking is easy to incorporate, such as by parking at the farther parking space for an extra sauntering time dispersed throughout the day. The freedom to put in a five-second or ten-second sprint is totally in the person’s hand. In the long run, the added movement will spell incomparable improvements to the cardiovascular system and the entire body on the overall. These are but a few of the interesting advantages that walking has over almost every exercise known to the human race. It appears then that nothing is standing in the way of anyone in terms of getting the body moving and receiving the healthy and fit figure that everyone seems to be dreaming of. It is quite within reach, thanks to the wonder called walking. «

Simple Golf Swing Fixes To Cure Your Slice

he most common swing fault in golf is a slice. Learning simple golf slice fixes is the approach to take to cure your slice fast and painlessly. So many golfers struggle with this humiliating ball flight, and yet it’s so easy to fix it, it’ll make you sick to your stomach. The cause of a golf slice is either an “out-to-in” golf swing, or an open face at impact. There are many causes of either of these swing faults, but correcting them is easy. Strengthen Your Grip to Hit A Draw If you’re a slicer, then take a look at your grip. More than likely your left hand is in a weak position, which means it’s more to your left when you look down at it.

To hit a draw, just bring your left hand over more to the right so you can see up to 3 knuckles of your left hand. This will encourage your clubface to close faster and easier through impact, giving your ball a draw spin. 28

Drop Your Arms and Club To Start Your Downswing A slicer has an upper body move with the right shoulder coming over the top which gets the clubshaft outside the target line, making it cut across the ball, giving it sidespin that makes it bend to the right. When you start your downswing, think of your arms, hands and club dropping right away. This will encourage your right shoulder to go down and under, instead of over. Golf tips for coming over the top in your golf swing will quickly cure your golf slice. You’ll soon be drawing the ball and getting more roll when it hits.

If you want to fix your slice, getting your club on plane coming down will help immensely. Using a golf swing plane trainer will give you the feel of a correct, on plane downswing while you’re hitting balls. «

Four Basic Investing Steps

nce you have a good job and have begun to pay off your debt, it is time to begin investing your money. Investing your money is essential because it what allows you to amass wealth. It will open doors for you later in life. People who regularly save and invest are the ones who end up being wealthy. It is important that you trim your spending so that you can really begin moving forward and acquiring wealth. In order for investing to work, you should not pull money out of your investments, but leave them there to grow. 1. Are You Ready to Begin Investing? It is important to make sure that you are truly ready to begin investing before you do. It does not make sense to begin investing money when you are charging money on your credit cards. You should be spending less than you make and be debt free, except for your house before you get serious about investing. However, you should still take advantage of employer match programs if you can. 2. Find a Financial Planner The next basic step in investing is to find a financial planner. You will want to do your first investing in basic investing tools, such as mutual funds. Your financial planner should be someone who is willing to take the

30

time to explain the different types of investments to you. She should be willing to look for products that you feel safe using, while offering the biggest potential growth. Your bank may have a financial planner you can use, or you can ask friend for referrals. 3. Understand the Different Type of Investment Accounts It is also important to understand the basic investing tools and accounts. These accounts can be used to help you save for retirement as well. You should understand the difference between mutual funds and money market accounts. You should also spread your wealth among several different accounts, even if you want to focus primarily on mutual funds. 4. Real Estate Investments You may be considering using real estate as an investment or a wealth building tool. Real estate is a great investment. However, there is a difference between flipping properties and investing in real estate for the long term. You should carefully consider the differences before you decide which one is best for you. Real estate that generates passive income is a great investment, but you need to make sure that it can cover the costs of upkeep and other potential problems as well. «

How to Hit Low Trajectory Golf Shots Trajectory is determined by your swing and grip

L

ike adding a higher trajectory to your golf shots, keeping the ball low will provide you the ability to shape the ball around the golf course in certain situations. Low shots can be useful in staying under obstacles, adding extra run to your shots on quick fairways, and hitting out of danger positions. With a low trajectory golf shot you can also keep the ball beneath the wind, as is frequently necessary in professional golf’s Open Championship. Difficulty: Moderate Instructions: 1. Line the golf ball up in the back of your stance. This will allow you to hit the ball while your swing is still on its way down, keeping the golf ball low after contact. 2. Choke up on your club to allow for a shorter swing. This will allow for less of a loop and will stop you from lofting it into the air. 3. Hinge your wrists as little as possible during your back swing. Keep the wrists solid to avoid snapping at the bottom to force the ball upward. 4. Keep your wrists solid through impact and stop your follow through as quickly as possible. Stopping your follow through will allow you to to keep the ball from following the club into the air. « 32

Karate Kids: The Benefits of Martial Arts

ith a bloodcurdling cry, your 6-year-old leaps into the air in a karate kick, raising your hair and blood pressure simultaneously. Before you panic and pad the walls, try channeling this urge into a martial arts class. Activities like tae kwon do, kung fu, and aikido are a fun way for both boys and girls to achieve fitness and focus. Some parents may think they also promote violence, but that’s a myth, according to experts. The martial arts actually help teach self-discipline and socialization skills. In fact, many parents whose children have attentiondeficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) report great success with these programs because self-control and concentration are exactly the skills underdeveloped in ADHD kids. A typical hour-long class begins and ends with a bow to the teacher, or master. After a warm-up, students practice the art’s particular skills, which may include kicks, punches,

and blocks. Each requires concentration and strict attention. Progress is often marked by the belt system, which takes the beginner from a white belt through a variety of colors until black. Testing for each new level, generally every three months, is a good exercise in setting and achieving goals. But, say experts, it’s the respect kids learn, whether from bowing or standing still and waiting for the next command, that can be the most important benefit: It often carries over into school, helping to improve behavior and even grades, according to recent research. “Six is usually a good age to start classes,” says Mimi Johnson, M.D., a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Committee on Sports Medicine and Fitness. By that time a child should have enough muscle control to punch and turn properly and safely -- essential to getting a real kick out of the martial art he chooses. «

Golf Tips for Beginners

f you’re a golfer just starting out, it can be a brutal game. To make a good golf swing, and to try to do it for 18 holes can be both humbling and frustrating. One of the best things you can do is search for golf tips for beginners. Just make sure you are utilizing credible sources, as there are many that have no business giving out tips, as they themselves cannot break 90. Some of the tips you should be looking for are, how to grip a golf golf; golf swing takeaway; golf putting and chipping tips; as well as golf driving tips and backswing tips. That pretty much covers nearly all of the main things you need to get right in order to hit solid golf shots, and avoid the major faults of a golf slice, hitting fat shots, topping the ball, and over the top golf swing. For instance, a great tip for your back swing is to take the club back in one-piece, meaning eliminate the

34

wasteless breaking the wrists too early, and cocking the wrists with turning your shoulders. This is called “picking the club up” instead of rotating your shoulders and getting all that stored energy in your core, that will result in a higher clubhead speed, and ultimately distance. A good golf driving tip is to tee the ball a little higher; play it more off your front foot; sweep the club back on the takeaway; and then hit the ball slightly coming up (ascending). A golf chipping tip is to take your hands out of it. If you use your hands, it will involve too much timing, and sometimes you’ll hit it thin; you’ll chunk it; and even blade it over the green. So as you can see, for a beginner golfer, tips can be very helpful. It can save you a ton of time, and frustration and wasted years of nonenjoyment. «

Working from a Mindset of Rest

ave you ever tried working on a day when you got off on the wrong side of the bed? Perhaps you spent the night worrying about things, such as your finances, your future, or even important relationships in life, that you hardly slept a wink. Or it could be that your sleep was laden with nightmares of things that you are afraid of but never brought up out in the open. It is definitely not a pretty place to be, right? No matter how much you enjoy your work, your day seems to start dragging on right from the very first minute, everything feeling swamped with stress and pressure and feeling torturous, resulting in compounded stress; by the end of the day, you are ready to collapse in bed from exhaustion, while sleep still escapes you because of the many nagging thoughts in your mind. The human mind is an amazing thing: it can spell the difference between how you work on a daily basis simply based on the mindsets that you have. What does this mean? This means that you have the capacity to change the way things happen in your day, simply by changing your mindset about things. How do you change your lifestyle by changing your mindset, and looking at work from a mindset of rest? The first thing to understand is that

36

rest is not merely a physical cessation of activity. More importantly, rest refers to a mental and emotional state of mind that is calm and collected. A good description of this would be the word peace: peace is not necessarily the absence of troubles, but rather a peace of mind even in the midst of problems. Rest is the same way; do you know there is a way to operate from rest even when deadlines stumble over each other to knock on your door? One way to work from a mindset of rest would be to be secure in your identity. What does this mean? This means that you do not base your identity on this next big project, or on your performance on this next big test. Generally, people fall into extreme pressure for themselves, then into stress, and sometimes into depression, when they have such high expectations of themselves. Sure, it works in terms of motivation, but a lot of times, that can backfire. What happens if you fail? Do you beat yourself up and promise to do better next time? This adds more and more pressure for those next few times, making you more stressed out to perform as well as you can. Consider the difference: if you work on a project knowing that you are

Âť Luxury life of Miami

already successful, that it does not determine who you are, you will likely find yourself enjoying the task simply as one other thing you love doing. You will definitely see a difference in a work well done simply because you enjoy it compared to a work well done because you were pressured to do it. Being rested mentally about who you are will also give you permission to rest yourself physically. Perhaps you have seen many professionals forego a couple of nights’ sleep in light of a pressing deadline. Sure, you can opt to do the same if you actually want to do it, but knowing it will not affect your overall identity means you can actually grab a few hours of shut-eye without worrying how it will turn out. This may likely be the reason why people who believe in a Higher Being who is out working on their behalf find it easier to rest in times of high-

pressure scenarios, versus those who believe that a Higher Being is out to get them: the latter tend to strive with all that they have to make sure nothing goes wrong. This is the root of an obsessive-compulsive behavior, which undoubtedly creates layers upon layers of stress and a tightly wound-up set of emotions. If you happen to be faced with a tough challenge, by all means, do everything you can to make it work. But try to change your mind into knowing that things will work out for your best. If you believe in God, perhaps it is time to start seeing God as a positive force in your life instead of something that will whack you whenever he has the chance. This will definitely spell a difference in the way you work on a daily basis, and your emotional and mental health will thank you for it! «

The Laws of Golf LAW 1: No matter how bad your last shot was, the worst is yet to come. This law does not expire on the 18th hole, since it has the supernatural tendency to extend over the course of a tournament, a summer and, eventually, a lifetime. LAW 2: Your best round of golf will be followed almost immediately by your worst round ever. The probability of the latter increases with the number of people you tell about the former. LAW 3: Brand new golf balls are water-magnetic. Though this cannot be proven in the lab, it is a known fact that the more expensive the golf ball, the greater its attraction to water. LAW 4: Golf balls never bounce off of trees back into play. If one does, the tree is breaking a law of the universe and should be cut down. LAW 5: No matter what causes a golfer to muff a shot, all his playing partners must solemnly chant "You looked up," or invoke the wrath of the universe. LAW 6: The higher a golfer's handicap, the more qualified he deems himself as an instructor. LAW 7: Every par-three hole in the world has a secret desire to humiliate golfers. The shorter the hole, the greater its desire. LAW 8: Topping a 3-iron is the most painful torture known to man. LAW 9: Palm trees eat golf balls. LAW 10: Sand is alive. If it isn't, how do you explain the way it works against you"

The game of golf is 90% mental and 10% mental. If you want to get better at golf, go back and take it up at a much earlier age. Since bad shots come in groups of three, a fourth bad shot is actually the beginning of the next group of three. When you look up and cause an awful shot, you will always look down again at exactly the moment when you ought to start watching the ball if you ever want to see it again. Any change works for a maximum of three holes and a minimum of not at all. No matter how bad you are playing, it is always possible to play worse Never keep more than 300 separate thoughts in your mind during your swing. When your shot has to carry over a water hazard, you can either hit one more club or two more balls. Golfers who claim they don’t cheat, also lie. If you’re afraid a full shot might reach the green while the foursome ahead of you is still putting out, you have two options: you can immediately shank a lay-up, or you can wait until the green is clear and top a ball halfway there. The less skilled the player, the more likely he is to share his ideas about the golf swing. The inevitable result of any golf lesson is the instant elimination of the one critical unconscious motion that allowed you to compensate for all your errors. If it ain’t broke, try changing your grip. It’s not a gimme if you’re still away. Everyone replaces his divot after a perfect approach shot. A golf match is a test of your skill against your opponent’s luck. It’s surprisingly easy to hole a 50-foot putt when you lie 10. Counting on your opponent to inform you when he breaks a rule is like expecting him to make fun of his own haircut. Non chalant putts count the same as chalant putts. The shortest distance between any two points on a golf course is a straight line that passes directly through the center of a very large tree. There are two kinds of bounces: unfair bounces, and bounces just the way you meant to play it. You can hit a 2-acre fairway 10% of the time, and a 2-inch branch 90% of the time. Every time a golfer makes a birdie, he must subsequently make two triple bogeys to restore the fundamental equilibrium of the universe. If you want to hit a 7-iron as far as Tiger Woods does, simply try to lay up just short of a water hazard. To calculate the speed of a player’s downswing, multiply the speed of his backswing by his handicap. Example: backswing 20 mph, handicap 15, downswing 600 mph. There are two things you can learn by stopping your backswing at the top and checking the position of your hands: how many hands you have, and which one is wearing the glove. Hazards attract. Fairways repel. You can put “draw” on the ball, you can put “fade” on the ball, but no golfer can put “straight” on the ball. A ball you can see in the rough from 50 yards away is not yours. If there is a ball in the fringe and a ball in the bunker, your ball is the one in the bunker If both balls are in the bunker, yours is in the footprint. Don’t buy a putter until you’ve had a chance to throw it. » Luxury life of Miami
