he myth that most people have is that interior designers are only relevant for those who are wealthy or have very large estate homes. However, this could be farther from the truth. Interior Designers are professionals who create a style and vision for your home or office no matter if it’s one room or an entire home. They also provide services beyond just selecting fabrics, furnishings and drawing plans. A majority of professional interior designers coordinate trades people such as painters, flooring installers, wallcovering installers to name just a few, and oversee their work to ensure the full scope of the design intent is carried out. They will also intercede for you and manage many of the trades’ people you would normally have to deal with personally. If you have a busy schedule or just don’t want to deal with knowing when to schedule which tradesperson at which time, this can be a huge advantage. Another benefit in hiring an Interior Designer is that they can work closely with your general contractor or architect on your behalf if you are doing a renovation or new home build project to make sure all details are thought through in the design phase so that costly mistakes or re-dos are not done after work has commenced. There is also a difference between the level of services and fee structure provided by Interior Designers and Interior Decorators so be sure you are hiring the right person for your project. A Interior Decorator can be talented and have vast experience with colors, fabrics and finishes used to decorate a home but do not require a college degree, need to know building codes, or be required to draw design plans. Interior Designers take these talents a step further as they have college degrees and have gone through their state’s licensing procedure to be called an Interior Designer. They uphold a level of professionalism in their career, can provide full design drawing services, and are required to do continuing education in order to maintain their states licensure requirements. Interior Designers have to be knowledgeable about construction practices and building codes in order to do their job and are trained to create functional and quality interior spaces. How many times have you looked at the pictures in a design magazine and seen the beautiful homes in there and wonder what would your home look like? » A Tax Savings Strategy To Consider

highly effective but often underutilized tool that successful business owners can use to greatly lower their tax burden, while simultaneously enhancing their retirement savings, is the Traditional Defined Benefit Plan. Used for several decades by companies and proprietors nationwide but often overlooked by accountants and financial planners alike due in large part to its modest complexity, The Traditional Defined Benefit Plan is a “qualified plan”, which by definition means it meets the requirements of the IRS code, making it eligible to receive certain tax benefits. Allowing annual contributions far in excess of 401k, SEP, or other contributory plans, the Defined Benefit Plan, is a plan that is available to all business owners, including one person companies, as well as sole proprietorships. Though most advantageous to small business owners, the use of a Defined Benefit plan in conjunction with other plans, such as a safe harbor 401k, could still make a “DB” plan for larger companies very practical and cost effective through age weighting, compensation, and years of service considerations. The benefits of owning a DB plan go beyond tax deductibility and enhanced retirement benefits. All gains within the investment portfolio are tax deferred. In addition creditor protection is considered by most legal experts to be far more effective in DB plans than in more commonly used contributory retirement plans due in large part to the fact that the plan is sponsored by the business owners own company and the assets in the plan are in trust for the owner, (or other participants), making DB plans historically safer from creditors than most other investment vehicles. Defined Benefit Plans in addition to offering a payout benefit at retirement offer the additional option of rolling your money into an IRA before or at retirement. Because a Defined Benefit Plan is a “benefit” plan, not a “contributory” plan such as a 401k, the Defined Benefit Plan allows the participant the knowledge of exactly how much money will be there at a targeted retirement age, a convenience participants in regular contributory plans do not enjoy. As the goal is to fund for a certain benefit at retirement, clients are advised to enter into an investment strategy that is steady and reliable rather than volatile in nature. Lost money in the investment means mandatory catch up contributions in subsequent years and that can be avoided. There are numerous products that offer reasonable returns on the investment with no downside risk to investment principal. This strategy allows for a more steady funding schedule as well as a more reliable and predictable outcome over all, completely eliminating the anxiety of having to make catch-up contributions resulting from a poorly managed portfolio. There are a few other considerations a business owner must take into account when considering whether a Defined Benefit Plan is suitable for them. The plan must be funded, at least to some degree, each year it is open. It is recommended that when budgeting for a benefit, and its funding schedule, it should be a schedule that the company owner feels can be maintained on a year to year basis for at least a few years. While amendments can be done over that period and certain exceptions made in dire circumstances, they should be avoided if possible so as to fully maintain plan continuity, integrity, and flexibility going forward. This plan was not intended, nor should be used as a short term tax deduction. Another consideration is cost to maintain the plan. Due to the nature of the administration of the plan and the tax filings an enrolled actuary must be used. The costs however are typically less than administering a 401k plan. Many small plans can be maintained for only a few hundred dollars a year. Considering the substantial tax savings this plan offers, it is truly money well spent. (See illustration). «

• Straight Leg Raises Lie on a plain surface or on your bed. Now bend one of your legs. Slowly lift the straight leg up while still bending the other. Keep your leg in that position for 10 seconds. Then lower the leg. Repeat it. Once done, repeat the process with the other leg. «

Or maybe, just maybe, you wasted a good swing because your golf ball was not suited for the situation, or was piece of junk altogether. I see far too many instances where a player uses the wrong type of ball. They might have the Great Big Bertha, some space age composite irons, or even the fancy wing-tipped shoes, but if the golf ball does not suit the player or the circumstance, then the overall outcome of the shot will be adversely affected. There are essentially three types of balls: balata, two-piece, or a combination of both. Basi14

cally, there are two things to consider when choosing the correct ball: • What are you looking for? Are you a low handicap looking for ultimate spin and control? If so, choose a balata. This is essentially just a softer ball, which has a softer cover and allows for more spin. This is what Tiger and a lot of the big boys play (They are also quite a bit more expensive). If you are a higher handicap, you will be looking more for distance and durability. This is where a good twopiece ball will be best. This ball has a harder cover, and hence creates less backspin, which allows for you to hit it farther. To be continued....«

The preference is a strong one so you can rotate the clubface over through impact encouraging a draw and more yards when it hits the ground. Golf Ball Position Forward To promote maximum launch angle you need an ascending blow on the golf ball. Positioning it up in your stance, just inside your left heel will make it much easier to hit “up on the ball”. Spine TIlt This is where beginner golfers screw up. Instead of a spine angle away from the target at impact, many have wither a vertical one, or even worse, one that is more towards the target, encouraging a descending blow resulting in pop ups. ave you ever had the perfect game, or more probably, the perfect hole?

The kind of hole that right off the tee, you felt incredible and were setup just perfectly for a birdie or maybe even an eagle? I mean the kind of hole, say 350 yards out, up about 20 yards from the pin? Then you chip up and you’re about two feet away, then tap it in for a birdie? Well, what happened and why don’t you do that on every hole? Let’s talk about it. We know the pros do it. We know it’s possible. Why don’t we do this on every hole? The answer is found in both concentration and confidence. The most difficult thing we have to do on the golf course is concentrate, or just focus on the ball for the split second we are going to connect the club head with the ball. The trouble is, we start letting other things creep into our mind and they build up and then, right at the start of out backswing, they flood into our mind and “hmmmph” 18

we top the ball or hit it fat. But why? Well, it’s SO easy to explain and SO hard to execute: but it’s about blocking everything out from the ball forward in my opinion and that is not so simple. Let me explain. I was typically so concerned with where my ball ended up, that I found I had developed that habit of thinking about where I wanted the ball to go after I hit it. I noticed the more I seemed to concentrate and try to hit the ball correctly, the worse I did. Then, a strange thing happened one day. I was a bit angry with myself and I felt, “damn, it does not really matter what I do, so I’m just going to hit the ball. I don’t care about any practice swings at all!” During these types of shots, replete with its fits of anger, I jumped off the cart, ripped the club out of my bag, promptly walked over to the ball, addressed it, and swung, all in the matter of about 20 seconds. Imagine my surprise when, the ball flew perfectly and went where I needed it to be. «

Delray Beach International Tennis Championships Returns for its 20th Anniversary

One of the area’s premier sporting events returns to South Florida for its 20th Anniversary, when the Delray Beach International Tennis Championships hits the courts at the Delray Beach Tennis Stadium on February 24 – March 4. This year’s event will feature hometown favorite Andy Roddick and the hard-hitting John Isner as part of the ATP World Tour event, and tennis hall-of-famers Ivan Lendl and Michael Chang headlining the ATP Champions Tour portion. The Delray Beach International Tennis Championships is the only ATP tournament in the world featuring an ATP Champions Tour event and an ATP World Tour event in the same week at the same venue. Each year the Delray Beach ITC attracts the best tennis players in the world and thousands of visitors to Delray Beach and Palm Beach County. Andy Roddick is considered one of the most successful American men’s tennis players over the last decade and enjoyed a nine-year run in the Top 10. The 28-year-old former Boca Raton resident has reached the finals of five Grand Slams and in 2003 became the youngest American ever to be ranked No. 1 at the age of 21. Although John Isner is known to the masses for his 11-hour, 3-day first-round match at Wimbledon in 2010, Isner, 26, played the best tennis of his career in 2011. The former University of Georgia All-American has won two ATP World Tour titles this year and reached the quarterfinals of the US Open. he most common swing fault in golf is a slice. Learning simple golf slice fixes is the approach to take to cure your slice fast and painlessly. The cause of a golf slice is either an “out-to-in” golf swing, or an open face at impact. There are many causes of either of these swing faults, but correcting them is easy. Strengthen Your Grip to Hit A Draw If you’re a slicer, then take a look at your grip. More than likely your left hand is in a weak position, which means it’s more to your left when you look down at it. To hit a draw, just bring your left hand over more to the right so you can see up to 3 knuckles of your left hand. This will encourage your clubface to close faster and easier through impact, giving your ball a draw spin.

Drop Your Arms and Club To Start Your Downswing A slicer has an upper body move with the right shoulder coming over the top which gets the clubshaft outside the target line, making it cut across the ball, giving it sidespin that makes it bend to the right. When you start your downswing, think of your arms, hands and club dropping right away. This will encourage your right shoulder to go down and under, instead of over. Low shots can be useful in staying under obstacles, adding extra run to your shots on quick fairways, and hitting out of danger positions. With a low trajectory golf shot you can also keep the ball beneath the wind, as is frequently necessary in professional golf’s Open Championship. Difficulty: Moderate Instructions: 1. Line the golf ball up in the back of your stance. This will allow you to hit the ball while your swing is still on its way down, keeping the golf ball low after contact. 2. Choke up on your club to allow for a shorter swing. This will allow for less of a loop and will stop you from lofting it into the air. 3. Hinge your wrists as little as possible during your back swing. Keep the wrists solid to avoid snapping at the bottom to force the ball upward. 4. f you’re a golfer just starting out, it can be a brutal game. To make a good golf swing, and to try to do it for 18 holes can be both humbling and frustrating. One of the best things you can do is search for golf tips for beginners. Just make sure you are utilizing credible sources, as there are many that have no business giving out tips, as they themselves cannot break 90. Some of the tips you should be looking for are, how to grip a golf golf; golf swing takeaway; golf putting and chipping tips; as well as golf driving tips and backswing tips. That pretty much covers nearly all of the main things you need to get right in order to hit solid golf shots, and avoid the major faults of a golf slice, hitting fat shots, topping the ball, and over the top golf swing. For instance, a great tip for your back swing is to take the club back in one-piece, meaning eliminate the

wasteless breaking the wrists too early, and cocking the wrists with turning your shoulders. This is called “picking the club up” instead of rotating your shoulders and getting all that stored energy in your core, that will result in a higher clubhead speed, and ultimately distance. A good golf driving tip is to tee the ball a little higher; play it more off your front foot; sweep the club back on the takeaway; and then hit the ball slightly coming up (ascending). A golf chipping tip is to take your hands out of it. If you use your hands, it will involve too much timing, and sometimes you’ll hit it thin; you’ll chunk it; and even blade it over the green. So as you can see, for a beginner golfer, tips can be very helpful. It can save you a ton of time, and frustration and wasted years of nonenjoyment. «

The game of golf is 90% mental and 10% mental. If you want to get better at golf, go back and take it up at a much earlier age. Since bad shots come in groups of three, a fourth bad shot is actually the beginning of the next group of three. When you look up and cause an awful shot, you will always look down again at exactly the moment when you ought to start watching the ball if you ever want to see it again. Any change works for a maximum of three holes and a minimum of not at all. No matter how bad you are playing, it is always possible to play worse Never keep more than 300 separate thoughts in your mind during your swing. When your shot has to carry over a water hazard, you can either hit one more club or two more balls. Golfers who claim they don’t cheat, also lie. If you’re afraid a full shot might reach the green while the foursome ahead of you is still putting out, you have two options: you can immediately shank a lay-up, or you can wait until the green is clear and top a ball halfway there. The inevitable result of any golf lesson is the instant elimination of the one critical unconscious motion that allowed you to compensate for all your errors. If it ain’t broke, try changing your grip. It’s not a gimme if you’re still away. A golf match is a test of your skill against your opponent’s luck. It’s surprisingly easy to hole a 50-foot putt when you lie 10. Counting on your opponent to inform you when he breaks a rule is like expecting him to make fun of his own haircut. Non chalant putts count the same as chalant putts. The shortest distance between any two points on a golf course is a straight line that passes directly through the center of a very large tree. There are two kinds of bounces: unfair bounces, and bounces just the way you meant to play it. You can hit a 2-acre fairway 10% of the time, and a 2-inch branch 90% of the time. Every time a golfer makes a birdie, he must subsequently make two triple bogeys to restore the fundamental equilibrium of the universe. If you want to hit a 7-iron as far as Tiger Woods does, simply try to lay up just short of a water hazard. To calculate the speed of a player’s downswing, multiply the speed of his backswing by his handicap. Example: backswing 20 mph, handicap 15, downswing 600 mph. There are two things you can learn by stopping your backswing at the top and checking the position of your hands: how many hands you have, and which one is wearing the glove. You can put “draw” on the ball, you can put “fade” on the ball, but no golfer can put “straight” on the ball. A ball you can see in the rough from 50 yards away is not yours.
