From lip augmentation to wrinkle treatment – minimally invasive beauty treatments are in greater demand than ever. But which treatments get the skin in top shape again and what are the limits of the gentler methods? We asked the expert – Dr Frank Muggenthaler.

Dr Muggenthaler, minimally invasive methods are the latest trend in aesthetic medicine. Why is that?

It’s true, and it’s completely understandable because as a rule, minimally invasive procedures offer faster results, shorter absences from work and, when they’re correctly applied, good, natural-looking results as well.

Minimally invasive methods are a valuable complement to plastic surgery.

Which treatments are particularly in demand at the moment?

tation. The HydraFacial® is especially popular thanks to its versatility and remarkable immediate effect.

Can the HydraFacial® also help to combat wrinkles?

In the case of fine lines, yes. With somewhat deeper wrinkles or pronounced pigment disorders and enlarged pores, we achieve excellent results with the laser. This is a more intense method than the Hydra Facial, but the downtime from work is very short.

And of course, the well-proven method of injecting dermal fillers also deserves a mention. Hyaluronic acid fillers make it possible to not only treat wrinkles but also to shape and fill out parts of the face. This includes lip augmentation.

What are the limits of minimally invasive methods?

If the facial structures are heavily sunken and excess skin is present, a minimally invasive treatment can no longer produce the desired result. In such a case, plastic corrections such as facelifts, eyebrow lifts or eyelid correction are called for. The same applies to deep wrinkles. In this case, a phenol peeling would be the right choice. In many cases, it also makes sense to combine surgical measures with minimally invasive procedures.

What’s your view on creams, serums and the like?

High-quality, individually coordinated skin before and after every treatment is the be-all and end-all in achieving a good result.

Generally, potent ingredients such as retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid etc. can also increase skin quality considerably. It’s thereby essential to get a detailed consultation and skin type classification – because it’s only possible to lastingly improve skin health with a meticulously coordinated skin care plan.
