A Conversation with Onessimo Fine Art Q. How do you select the artists you represent?

For me, selecting an artist is an intuitive process grounded in decades of experience. I’m drawn to artists whose work carries both emotional depth and mastery of technique — individuals who create with integrity, imagination, and a point of view that’s distinctly their own.

I’ve always believed that an artist should have something meaningful to say, whether through color, form, narrative, or innovation. Over the years, this instinct has helped me build a roster of artists who challenge, uplift, and endure.

Q. What artistic styles or mediums does the gallery focus on?

Onessimo Fine Art has always been defined by its diversity. We represent contemporary and modern masters across a range of mediums — painting, photography, bronze and stainless-steel sculpture, and contemporary glass. Stylistically, we embrace everything from vivid impressionism to expressive abstraction to cinematic storytelling. What matters most is that each work has a voice. Whether it’s a Schiavon glass sculpture glowing with luminosity or a lenticular piece that shifts as you move, I gravitate toward art that feels alive.

Q. What advice do you have for someone new to collecting art?

Collect what you love. That is, and always will be, my first rule. Trends come and go, but the pieces that resonate with you — that lift your spirit, challenge your thinking, or simply make you smile every time

you walk past them — those are the works that stay meaningful.

Educate yourself, spend time with the art, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. A great collection grows intentionally!

Q. What motivates you most about curating and selling art?

I’m motivated by the moments when a client connects deeply with a piece — when you can almost see the artwork choosing them.

Curating is both a privilege and a responsibility. It allows me to shine a light on artists whose visions deserve to be seen, and to help collectors bring beauty, emotion, and meaning into their homes. After more than four decades, that moment of connection still inspires me every day.

Q. Who are some artists that personally inspire you?

I’m endlessly inspired by the artists I represent, each offering a distinct visual language and mastery of their craft. McKenzie Thorpe moves me with his ability to capture innocence and universal emotion—balancing humor, tenderness, and a deep sense of humanity. Bruno Zupan brings extraordinary vibrancy and light to his landscapes, celebrating life in every brushstroke.

In sculpture, Alex Kveton’s stainless-steel forms embody power and grace, while Alex Bernstein’s glass works blend architectural clarity with poetic fragility. Massimiliano Schiavon brings the soul of Murano into contemporary form—his glass alive with color, movement, and tradition reimagined.

And Susanne Schuenke stands in a realm of her own. Her paintings are portals—mythic, symbolic, and richly layered—where past and future intertwine. Her imagination feels limitless, inviting us to dream, reflect, and travel beyond the ordinary.

Q. What trends or movements in contemporary art excite you most?

Truthfully, I’ve never been someone who gets carried away by trends for trend’s sake. After more than four decades in the art world, I’ve learned

that what excites me isn’t the momentary buzz—it’s the work that endures long after the moment has passed. That said, I do appreciate when certain movements push artists to deepen their craft or expand the visual language of their work.

Q. Many of your artists work across different media. How does this multiplicity influence your curatorial approach?

Multiplicity is at the heart of our curatorial philosophy.

I’ve always believed that the Hessam Abrishami most compelling collections Golden Season — whether in a gallery or Acrylic on Canvas a home — are those that 48 x 36 in embrace contrast. A powerful glass sculpture beside a bold contemporary painting, or a photographic work paired with stainless-steel forms, can create a dialogue that elevates each piece. Blending mediums invites energy into the space; it reflects a life richly and thoughtfully collected. In curating, I consider how the works speak to one another, how they harmonize, and how they create a sense of movement throughout the gallery.

Q. How do you define the artistic identity of Onessimo Fine Art? Onessimo Fine Art reflects a commitment to excellence. I’m drawn to artists who have a strong personal vision — creators who aren’t afraid to push boundaries, experiment, and pursue beauty in all its forms.

Our identity is rooted in quality, diversity: impressionist light, abstract emotion, cinematic photography, sculptural innovation, and lasting value. Above all, the gallery champions work that endures, that sparks connection, and that invites viewers into a deeper conversation.

Q. What emotions or ideas do you want visitors to feel when they walk through Onessimo Fine Art? I want visitors to feel inspired. I want them to experience wonder, curiosity, and a sense of discovery. Art should lift you — emotionally, intellectually, spiritually — even if only for a moment. When someone steps into the gallery, I hope they feel welcomed, engaged, and open to the beauty around them. My goal has always been to create a space where art can speak for itself, where visitors feel that spark of connection and leave with something meaningful, whether or not they take a piece home.

MIA || 2025 Acrylic on stretched canvas 30"x 60" Madison (Mad.E) My name is Madison, and I go by Mad.E. I’m originally from Vienna, Virginia. While studying industrial design at the University of Illinois at Chicago, a color theory course changed my path, and I became a painter. Working with acrylic on a seven-foot canvas from the beginning, the Color Collection came to life. Five of the nine pieces are complete so far.

About a year and a half ago, I began what I call The Expedition: A Collective Collage. Open to the public to contribute, each collage is kept by me, Mad.E, then strung on fishing line to hang collectively as one piece created by everyone. About 400 have been completed — 4,600 to go.

T

he word “intimate” might not be the first thing that comes to mind when decorating a 17,000 square foot property, but it was paramount to the owners that they feel as comfortable and cozy at home alone for the weekend as they do with all of the kids and grandchildren in tow. Considering this is the fourth property they have teamed up with Scottsdalebased designer Matthew Boland for, the couple knew he was up to the challenge.

The clients learned with their first Palm Beach home that they wanted something with a larger footprint and that was less formal and so after a zealous off-market search for just the right property, they found this spectacular oceanfront destination DINING ROOM

that would be adaptable to meet a variety of needs for themselves, their family, and friends. The property is composed of four structures: the main entertaining pavilion, a secondary building connected by an exterior covered breezeway that serves as the primary residence and includes a VIP suite with its own separate exterior entrance, a standalone guest house, and a dedicated pool house. Together, these spaces offer a thoughtful blend of privacy, comfort, and functionality for both owners and visitors.

“This property is so magical because it’s on a large lot with lots of privacy and a huge existing guest house that we knew would work well with their vision,” says Boland.

“There was also plenty of room for staff while allowing us to create privacy and intimacy so it really could serve as a two-person sanctuary when needed.”

However, this home was far from move-in ready.

The designer says he and his team really only left the exterior walls intact. After embarking on a major interior architectural renovation to ensure the home’s footprint was well suited for their lifestyle — and the walls for the owners’ prominent contemporary Latin American art collection, which served as a natural starting point for the decoration.

“It was really fun to work with this couple because their pieces are always coming or going on loan to a museum or being brought in the house to enjoy for the season, so things are always in motion,” says Boland. “I think that affects how the clients look at interiors and entertaining, too. The house is a living, breathing reflection of you and if it’s not evolving, you’re not necessarily evolving either.”

Boland pulled from the bold and dramatic yet joyful hues found throughout their collection to bring in welcome pops of color around the home, as he says a lot of clients have beige fatigue and are tired of living in monochromatic environments. However, he was wary of color drenching rooms, and rather sought to bring a refined balance of exuberance and calm. Most of the walls, with the exception of a few small spaces, remained neutral, evoking a more traditional coastal aesthetic, while the vibrant artwork and select furnishings packed just the right amount of punch in terms of color and texture.

As the couple well knows by now, Boland likes to challenge his clients to explore something new in every project. The wife has long been fascinated by Asian art, and they began immersing themselves in Chinese and Japanese porcelain. The wife became enamored

by antique snuff bottles, which Boland jokes was not very helpful considering they are two-inch artifacts that don’t take up much room in a 17,000-square foot property. However, they were able to create a clever display case for her newfound collection in the powder bath vestibule that features a mirror backing, allowing for 360-degree views of her new collection.

“That was a really fun part of the journey because it was something so random that became really important to the powder room because it allowed for us to create this fun, magical kind of intimacy in the space,” says Boland.

All in all, turning this house into a bonafide dream home that spans four structures took three years from start to finish, though the house is always evolving with new artworks and objects filling the spaces — and rightfully so, according to Boland. The property has become lovingly known as “Reflections,” as it serves as a place for the family to commemorate to the past while looking towards the future with confidence and clarity.

W

hen Dekay and Tate’s Nina Dekay Grauer purchased this cozy twobedroom property in Palm Beach, she knew it would not only serve as her personal retreat but also as a showroom and meeting space for the newly rebranded firm that now includes Eleanor Tate Trepte as partner.

This home would also become the design duo’s first project together and while it would absolutely be a strong reflection of Nina’s distinct style, it needed to highlight both of the designer’s skillsets to become a living calling card for their business.

“When we started designing the house, it was really to get that ‘wow factor’ and to make the space stand out from a lot of the houses you see here,” says Grauer. “From the outside, it just looks like a little Palm Beach bungalow, but when you walk in, it’s almost the antithesis of the traditional Palm Beach look.”

The duo was inspired by Dekay Grauer’s love of midcentury style, rock and roll, pattern play, and a need for functionality, as the 1,800 square foot home needed to wear a lot of hats. And considering they were their own clients, the pair embraced the freedom and let their imaginations run wild, taking risks with color and pattern while also experimenting with storage space and how they could maximize functionality. Plus, they were able to employ a chic hidden door behind the bar (a childhood dream of Nina’s) that led to her primary bedroom suite.

One of the home’s greatest decorating challenges was the sun room, which is a long, narrow space that features floor-to-ceiling windows and a fireplace. Grauer and Trepte ended up creating a custom piece that offers storage and seating from one end of the room to the other (in an electric purple, no less) to solve the issue of a pesky

layout while ensuring it is inviting and purposeful for occasions of all kinds. It offers clever hidden storage for chargers, remotes, and other less aesthetically pleasing items in the “arms”’ of the bench. Though it posed some headaches, this space became one of the most special rooms to the pair, featuring a puzzle table (both are major puzzle lovers), favorite books, and collected knick-knacks that offer a warm welcome to all who enter.

Though the home certainly colors outside of the classic Palm Beach design lines in a fresh, funky way, there are plenty of design elements that offer nods to the local aesthetic to make it feel contextual with a youthful twist. The paint selections, such as the verdant green on the living room bar and the peachy pink in the dining room, offer a spin on this classic color pairing, while there are plenty of locally sourced antiques (Delray’s Dolphin & Flamingo was a top sourcing spot),

natural fiber dining chairs, midcentury silhouettes, and botanical motifs that seem to welcome a new era of Palm Beach decorating without eschewing tradition entirely.

“One of the best parts of this project was finding so many great vintage pieces, which we ended up working entire rooms around at times,” says Trepte. “It was fun to start backwards with these older pieces that we normally wouldn’t begin designing a room with otherwise and make something really special.”

The home’s light fixtures, in particular, became defining elements of each space, as nearly all were statementmaking vintage finds, from the chic table lamps on the beloved mirrored credenza to the various metallic hanging fixtures that add a layer of textural elegance. The leopard print chairs used in the office also became a starting point for this all-important space for boosting creativity and meeting with clients. However, considering this home is part- design laboratory for the firm, Grauer admits it’s always a work in progress and serves as a safe space for the duo’s ideas to run wild.

“I think especially for women in this time period we’re in, from your early 20s to 30s, your style is constantly shifting and this project has been a very interesting progression to getting the house to where it is now,” Grauer says. “Ellie and I had so much fun using our love of color and a dimensional outlook on design, and it was just the perfect way to start playing with our creativity and seeing what we are capable of together.”

HOW TO DECORATE A CHILD’S BEDROOM That Will Evolve With Them As They Age

1. Avoid a Strong Theme

Katherine Shenaman says that some parents may dream of having a safari theme for a little boy, for example, and while it may be the stuff of dreams for a few years, the decoration will inevitably start to date itself. This may be fine if you don’t want anything too precious in there, but it’s not the best strategy if you’re looking to invest in this space for the long haul.

“It really comes down to the colors and overall feel of the design scheme that allows a room to be timeless,” says Shenaman. “Lamps, bedding, and certain types of artwork are easy to tailor to a little one for a fun and more youthful feel — and they can be changed easily with time.”

hen it comes to designing a child’s bedroom, be they a preteen or still a bun in the oven, it can be all too easy to swing one side of the decorating pendulum or another.

On one hand, it’s special to involve your child in the design process and lean into their penchant for fantastical color and pattern pairings.

It can also be tempting to want to create a cohesive design to match the rest of your home that they will age into eventually. However, what if we told you there are some key strategies out there to allow your child some design expression while still creating a timeless, elegant space? We’ve asked a stellar panel of local designers to share their philosophies for decorating children’s rooms.

Cece Bowman says she usually selects materials that are of the same quality and in keeping with the style of the rest of the home for these major items, though she loves to add scallop details, handpainted murals, and Pom Pom trims for a touch of youthful whimsy.

4. Don’t Be Afraid to Have Fun in a Secondary Home

“Kids rooms function more like guest rooms in vacation homes than their everyday bedrooms at home, which typically need places to do homework, bookcases, good storage, and so forth,” says Bowman.

“I feel there is more freedom in these types of homes to simply have fun with the design.”

Lisa Erdmann says she typically starts the design of a child’s bedroom with a wallpaper and draperies that will offer a seamless transition from infancy to toddlerhood and grade school. She says stripes are a go-to for designing a boy’s bedroom and an all-over pattern for girls’ spaces, as they are versatile for changes in bedding, artwork, and accessories over time.

“If the rug is very youthful, we may keep the wall treatment more neutral, and if the walls are more childlike we may keep the window treatments more subtle,” Bowman says. “Our hope is the rooms can easily transition as the children grow older, which, sadly, they do so fast!”

Additionally, Shenaman says that a kid’s room can be the perfect landing spot for a piece of art that doesn’t have a proper home in your house.

She says that this is a wonderful way to introduce children to fine art within reason, and it also helps them to have an anchor for their space, regardless of changing themes and color palettes through the years.

When it comes to decorating kids’ spaces in secondary homes, our designers say these can be great places to run wild. Shenaman says rooms of this type offer a chance for clients to step outside-of-the-box and explore more fantastical creations.

And if your child’s bedroom doubles as an actual guest suite in your secondary residence, Shenaman says there is still room for getting creative. She says that fun and happy colors appeal to all ages and don’t have to feel elementary in the design scheme. Plus, even your oldest guest may enjoy the nostalgic, eccentric design that hearkens to their own beloved childhood bedroom. And what could be better than that when on vacation?

A PLACE TO BEGIN AGAIN How Place of Hope Helped a Single Mother Build a Future

aughter drifted through the newly completed apartments at the Schmitt Family Complex on Place of Hope’s Leighan and David Rinker Campus as volunteers hurried from room to room setting up furniture and making beds. In one unit, four women leaned over a twin mattress, tugging a protector over the edges while joking about how many people it takes to make a bed. All around them, people hung artwork, washed dishes and folded linens with care. Every detail mattered, because by the end of the month these apartments would become home for young adults aging out of foster care and single mothers with children who were trying to rebuild their lives.

These moments reflect the heart of Place of Hope’s core mission, to restore hope, rebuild lives, and break cycles of abuse, neglect, homelessness, and family instability. The organization provides children, teens, single mothers, and young adults aging out of foster care with safe housing, life guidance, and long-term support. Place of Hope has campuses all over our area: from Stuart to Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm and now with expansion in Boca Raton, their mission is even stronger. The new Schmitt Family Complex makes sure that twenty young adults, single mothers, and their children will have a safe place to live and the support they need to get back on their feet.

One of the young mothers preparing to move into the new building is Ancy Augustan. She spent the past three years living at Villages of Hope, Place of Hope’s transitional housing program in West Palm Beach. She is now relocating to the Boca Raton campus to be closer to her work and her nursing program in Broward County. For her, the move feels like the next step in the journey she has spent years working toward.

As volunteers arranged her kitchen and made her bed, Ancy stood in the middle of her new apartment and reflected on how far she has come. She talked about how Place of Hope opened doors that once seemed out of reach. She said she has been able to go to school and is almost finished with nursing school. She has learned how to save money and gained skills in financial literacy. She proudly explained that she maxes out her IRA every year and has already opened a Florida

Prepaid college fund for her son. She said none of that would have been possible if she had been working two jobs just to pay rent.

Her goals are ambitious and clear. She wants to become a traveling certified registered nurse anesthetist. She wants to own a home. She believes these dreams are within reach because of the support she has received.

Place of Hope’s founding chief executive officer, Charles Bender, says the organization is committed to breaking the cycle that forces young mothers into instability and, ultimately, into the child welfare system.

He explained that when a parent loses stable housing it often becomes a case of neglect and that’s how children end up in foster care, even when their parents love them. By providing affordable transitional housing, Place of Hope keeps families together and gives them the stability they need to move forward.

The Boca Raton campus is continuing to grow. Construction will soon begin on additional housing, an outreach center, and an early childhood development center. When all current and planned projects are completed across Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast, Place of Hope expects to have enough space to support as many as two hundred single mothers, aged out foster youth, and young adults at risk of homelessness.

As Ancy walked through her new apartment, watching volunteers place the final touches on her space, she said she felt grateful and hopeful. A home, an education, and a future she once wondered if she would ever have are now real. Place of Hope has given her the foundation. She is ready to build the rest.

Place of Hope will be hosting several upcoming events, including Light in the Shadows on December 9th, a luncheon dedicated to raising funds to combat human trafficking, as well as their Inaugural Palm Beach Dinner on January 22nd, which supports Villages of Hope at the Sam & Connie Frankino KidSanctuary Campus.
