Wellness is more than just skin-deep at the Carillon Miami Wellness Resort in North Miami Beach. Dating back to 1958, the original Carillon Hotel hosted legendary guests such Frank Sinatra and Dr. Martin Luther King, then was reimagined for the 21st century as a state-of-the-art hub for “cutting-edge wellness therapies,” in the words of general manager Patrick Fernandes.

“The vision for Carillon as a wellness resort grew from a deep understanding of current times – where stress, pace and disconnection often define daily life,” Ferandes said. “We saw an opportunity to create a sanctuary that meets people where they are, offering not just respite but real transformation. Miami’s vibrant energy and natural beauty made it the perfect canvas for this mission.”

My own trip to the Carillon Resort on a warm (not yet scorching) weekend in May introduced me to a new level of wellbeing. I began the journey by dropping off my luggage in my king suite with an ocean view – almost the size of my apartment – and admiring beautiful, ornate tiling on the floor of the bath. After sliding my feet into sandals, I headed downstairs to the spa to indulge in “Touchless Wellness” – no humans necessary! What could be more relaxing?

My first treatment was a guided meditation in the Somadome. I settled into the comfortable, quiet pod, closed my eyes, and enjoyed two different meditations about peace and love – then emerged feeling markedly calmer. But more was still to come.

The MindSpa booth – where I tuned out the bustling resort and gazed at star-like lights overhead – made me forget where I was. It was followed by a session with the BioCharger NG, which surrounded me with healing light and frequencies custom-attuned to my needs. Finally, I drifted over a serene pool in the Salt Float Bath, lost in relaxed brain waves.

According to Ferandes, these modalities are hand-selected to aid in the resort’s mission. “Our spa offerings are chosen through a thoughtful and collaborative process. We listen to our guests, residents and members, stay closely attuned to global wellness trends, and partner with trusted experts. When we introduce a modality like the BioCharger, it’s because it aligns with our philosophy, rooted in science, proven efficacy, and personal transformation.”

Saturday morning, I rose feeling refreshed and excited to take in the ocean view from my balcony (and scarf a delicious muffin from The Corner Store, Carillon’s on-site cafe) before an afternoon of sunbathing. After a shot or three of espresso, I wandered downstairs, smiling benevolently at other guests. Clearly, the love and peace meditations took hold.

Vibes at the Carillon are relaxed and luxurious, not ostentatious. The trademark cabana pool overlooks the Atlantic and is flanked by a full bar

featuring whole coconuts, tasty cocktails, and a lunch menu, while the “adults only” pool upstairs stays blissfully quiet. Service at the Carillon is also top-notch; I never lacked for ice water or a comfortable lounge chair, complete with a towel.

That evening, after a full day of reading and lounging, I savored a tasty supper of fresh seafood paired with a glass of rosé on the patio at The Strand, Carillon’s on-site restaurant. My skin felt sun-kissed, and my spirits were lifted.
