In 2006 a young Matthew Resnick told his father he was leaving the family jewelry

business for real estate. Within months he was Rookie of the Year for his brokerage firm, and well on his way to creating the career he was meant for. Fast forward to 2017, and Resnick has recently been named the #2 luxury real estate agent in the city by the San Antonio Business Journal. We had the opportunity to catch up with Matthew to find out how the journey to success has shaped him. Hi Matthew! Thanks for chatting with us today. Tell us, why did you get into real estate? I got into real estate after realizing real estate was my passion. I was working for my family retail business, I had been doing real estate on the side as a hobby building, remodeling, and flipping properties. Being in sales my whole life working for the family business came easy, but the product we were selling was not my passion. Now I tell people to always find what you love and do that, because I feel like I’m playing every day. What’s one thing you’d want to tell every buyer? I always tell them to find out what’s important to you on a day-to-day basis. Once you identify the lifestyle that you’re accustomed to, that can help define what your next home is going to look like. What's one thing you'd want to tell every seller? Try to take the emotions out of the sale. You can be emotionally attached to the property, but when it comes time to sell you’ve got to take that out of equation. What is your biggest regret in life? I wish I would have continued with my education in college. I got into the family business so early on it took me away from wanting to continue with school. But now as an adult, I realize education is key to everything. Other than that, I don’t really regret much, and I’m thankful to still have been successful in life.

If you could bring one thing from one of your prior listings into your own home, what would it be? I would love to have a tennis court. My wife and I both grew up playing tennis, our kids are now learning to play, and that would be just awesome.◆
