Interview by: Candice Bar WINTER 2020

C: Where did the vision to create Isagenix come from? K: I was a dental hygienist for 18 years and I was looking for a

way out at the time. I decided to join a network marketing company back in 1992. I believe this was the best decision of my life. From there, I built three large organizations to record breaking success. I learned so much from those builds. Then, in 2002 we launched Isagenix, which is the pinnacle of perfection in network marketing; a company that is all about the people. It’s been a ride that’s been so much fun and I’m enjoying every minute of it.

C: When you were working for other companies before you started your own, what were some key attributes that you learned or developed? K: My biggest fear in life was speaking in front of the room publicly. I think that’s a lot of people’sbiggest fear and I had to get

over it. I had to practice in front of the bathroom mirror and I learned to speak and explain a compensation plan. It’s been quite a journey. The personal growth has been fantastic and that’s what I love about this profession.

C: Prior to starting Isagenix, did you have a mentor or someone prevalent in your life that helped you get over any fears or internal struggles that were holding you back from being successful? K: My husband has always been my mentor. He saw the greatness

in me before I saw that greatness. He always encouraged me, but it took him eight years talking to me about it before I jumped in. Then, I didn’t get other mentors, I got coaches. I found business coaches really to help me take it to the next level. We all need coaches. The ones that I had were mostly men. I’ve never had a woman mentor. That’s why I want to become such a great mentor to so many women. I think it’s so needed.

C: Success can be a little scary for some people, which is why I believe they don’t always achieve their potential. How do you make sure you reach your goals you set up for yourself?

It makes it easier by knowing why you’re doing this. It makes you take action every single day, and that’s the key. Keep consistency, move forward, push through it, and life happens. I mean look what’s happening to us now with the pandemic, and we’ll push through it. We’ll win. We will.

K: I had such a burning desire to get out of being a hygienist because

C: Isagenix is a family business. How do you and your family handle a professional relationship while maintaining family unity?

my body was breaking down from it. My why drove me to that success, along with my father. He instilled in me ever since I was young that I could do whatever I wanted. I always could hear him saying that in the back of my head. If you’re a parent, pour greatness into your children because it will effect them for the rest of their life. My father kept me going when I was young. In all the challenges I had, he just kept pushing me forward, telling me “I could do it, I could do it”, and then you believe you can do it. You have to have people that believe in you and surrounding yourself with positive people is the key.

K: I think it all boils down to communication, setting goals and communicating that with the family. When I started into network marketing and really was going to be working very very diligently, I had a family meeting and told them what my goals and dreams were, and what I wanted for our family. Then, I went on to ask them what they wanted. We put the family behind it. That made a difference. Especially when you have a young child, it’s important that he/she knows what’s going on. After we set goals with my son and the family, he and my husband would push me instead of fighting with me.

“I learned to get through things that happen by looking for solutions” C: Your “why” when you first started Isagenix may have changed through the years. What was your initial “why” when you first started Isagenix compared to your “why” now?

C: Have you always had a thick skin, or do you feel going through business made you tougher? K: I don’t think anybody is born with a thick skin. I think we’re all

very sensitive and emotional, especially women. As I matured in life, I learned to get through things that happen by looking for solutions. If I’m ever hit with something that’s a real issue, I immediately do my gratitudes. I write down all the things I’m grateful for and it seems to go away like it’s not that important. It’s just letting time take over, getting a good night sleep and just letting it go. Another thing I think is “how can I solve this?”. Something else that has driven me too is my “why”. Having your why in front of you is important. I talk about that in my book. I do that with pictures around my desk, my children, my family, our hundreds of thousands of associates who are counting on us to do a good job.

K: My personal goal in the beginning was really to create a company that stood out to be the ambassador. I wanted a company that was the very best, that had values and was going to be there for the long haul. I didn’t want it to be just a “quick fix”. This was something that was going to go on for years and years. I wanted to build something that people would be so proud to be a part of, that they couldn’t wait to get up in the morning and share Isagenix. Now, my “why” is different. My “why” is to help all the people in our company achieve their dreams and goals, to have optimal health, to be bursting with energy, enthusiasm, and passion. I want to help them have the lifestyle they want and income they want to support their family. I am all in on our people achieving success, and that’s why I still work. I don’t really have to work anymore, but I do it because I’m so passionate about it. It’s so much fun and it’s really not work at all. When you’re changing someone’s life, it fills you up. It makes you unstoppable so I will never stop.

C: Was it a hard decision to take your company international? When that decision had to be made, what made you take that leap? K: We first started in the U.S., then moved to Canada fol-

lowed by Australia. We want to impact the world. We want impact World Health. We want to make a difference in so many families lives and we can’t just hold it in the U.S. There are challenges that come with being international. It’s the culture, the payment processes, language barriers; it’s all those things. If you surround yourself with a great team, that is the key that makes everything happen. Surrounding yourself with the right people on the team and the magic will happen. I get in tears when I go into a new market and we launch a new country because I just know all the lives we are going to impact. There’s no exhilaration like that, knowing that you’re going to make an impact. Also knowing that people are going to have more energy, focus, concentration and they’re going to have an additional stream of income.

C: Navigating through 2020 and owning your direct sales company, you were able to help a lot of people that realized their “stable job” was no longer stable. What were your observations and thoughts through this period? K: Well, when this first hit we really didn’t know what would happen, but we have a lot more people joining now. I think this is a reality check for everyone that people take things for granted. They take ev-erything for granted. They take their health for granted, ca-reers and I think everybody really needs to build a second business and asset that can keep going. They need to build something they can work on just an hour a day and continue building and building it. The McKenzie reports come out and it’s saying that four hundred million people worldwide are going to lose their jobs because of automation. I mean, you see it on 60 minutes. I think it’s so important that people look for something that they can get passionate about and build the extra income. We’re really evolving right now which is so exciting. We’re taking the company to the next level in developing our products, our technology; everything is evolving. It’s so exciting to see what the future is going to bring. You have to evolve. If you don’t evolve and you don’t adapt, you see so many companies go down the wayside. Even people have to adapt. C: How do you get past any discomforts and make decisions for the greater good of your company?

C: What is a lesson you learned in life that at the time seemed difficult, but looking back, was a blessing? K: When we started the company, we had a partner and all of a sudden

K: Well, I think everybody needs to face their fears and really work on them. I had so many fears when I first started in this profession. I eventually got over them and became more confident and that’s also from experience. I think that people need to analyze their business. Look at it as “is this going to be here for the next ten years”. Look at everything now for example. Everything is online now through the apps and phones. Everybody wants to work from their phones. If you don’t adapt you’re going to be left behind. You see so many companies that aren’t in existence anymore. Look at retail for example, people just want to buy online.

we got notice that he was very very ill. So Jim and I had to acquire the company from him. It was major. We had to put everything we had on the line for the company, and we did it. We went in with strong goals, focused, concentrated and we paid all that debt back within six months, which usually takes most people six years to do.That was quite a defining moment in our history. You look at things like that and everything happens for a reason. It’s all been just a beautiful thing. The man we bought the company from is really healthy now. Everything works out, it really does, it just takes time.

C: What are some of your morning or night time routines? K: When I get up in the morning I’m an early riser. I get

up in the morning and I exercise. I take care of myself first because if I’m going to give and give all day, I need to make sure that I have taken care of myself. I climb a mountain that’s 7,000 ft every day and I work out four times a week. That’s my morning routine. Then I am on it. I time block my time management and my organization skills. I am on that calendar making sure that I’m performing. Then, into the evening, I get ready for the next day. I write out all my to do lists and I check my calendar and make sure I have all that down. At night, I meditate ritually. I do it on an infrared mat that relaxes me so I can go into a little bit of a different state. I take care of myself in the morning and evening so I can give, give, give. I recommend everybody does that no matter what. If you have to get up an hour earlier, just do it and go to bed an hour earlier.

Your “why” is so important because they’re so many excuses out there. If your “why” is big, there are no excuses.

C: Entrepreneurs typically have a faith and vision in seeing the unseen. Can you speak on the “divine downloads” you have received? K: Well, on my desk I have our vision statement, and it’s

really that everyone deserves to live a beautiful life and have everything they need. That really fills me up. Our vision in the beginning was to impact world health and free people from physical and financial pain, and in the process create one of the largest and most trusted companies ever. Now, we have evolved it to everybody deserves a beautiful life. We keep evolving, and that just fills us up, it really does. It fills our people up and we share that all the time. That drives me every single day because there’s always another life, there’s always someone to lift up. It’s so great to be a light in people’s lives. There’s so much negativity, how about just positivity? Let’s think about what we’re grateful for, let’s think of the things we can do to impact the community. That’s what I live for.

C: Your book “Resilient” was just launched. Can we talk about the process of writing, publishing and launching? Well that was my 5:30 in the morning project. I got a coach to really help me because I strongly believe in coaches and mentors. She helped walk me through it. I shared a lot of techniques and things that really helped me achieve success. I want to share those with people, sometimes we do things like a vision board. Everybody does a vision board, but they don’t really know why. A vision board is truly done because you want to keep it in front of you. You want to have it on both sides of your computer, by your bathroom mirror or in your car. The brain is such an amazing organ. There is a system called the reticular activating system, and it wants you to win! By seeing that vision board every single day, it makes you take action. I highly recommend this with people. We have vision board parties, putting those things in front of people makes them go to work. Your “why” is so important because they’re so many excuses out there. If your “why” is big, there are no excuses.

C: You have impacted many lives in such a positive way. Do you ever think of your broad outreach or do you find that overwhelming? K: I do, when I go to bed at night. I’ll visualize all the lives we’ve

changed, and it is overwhelming. It’s a huge responsibility as well. They’re counting on us and we can’t let anybody down, which is why we do what we do. That’s why our family is so committed to being in this life long legacy.

C: In your book, you said “People aren’t buying shakes, and they aren’t buying you”, which is typically what you’re taught as an entrepreneur. You go on to say, “When people are becoming Isagenix customers or associates, what they’re actually buying is certainty.” I’d like you to explain “certainty”, and expand on it if you will. K: I think people want something that they know is certain, something that is proven. They’re buying this because they’re certain that we have all the scientific research and data that people want. They want it because there’s so many options out there. It’s just amazing and life changing. It’s not just the weight loss, it’s the energy. They can be with their kids and play with

C: “Having the rug pulled out from under you is almost a right of passage for successful entrepreneurs.” I couldn’t agree with you more. You have to earn your stripes to have that entrepreneur badge on you. K: That’s right. People see all the glory, but they don’t see the

backstory. Any entrepreneur is going to tell you that they went through a lot in their life to get to where they are. I think this prepares you. Everything I’ve gone through with all these other companies have been lessons to prepare me. I’ve learned what to do and what not to do. I took those lessons to the next company to build it. All of the lessons I learned before I brought to Isagenix. This helped me know how to develop all the training programs. Never live in the past, always live in the future. I never looked back, I always looked forward and was grateful for what I learned.

C: In your book you quote Steve Jobs, and you state, “If you’re working on something you really care about you don’t have to be pushed, the vision pulls you.” K: That’s exactly right. You have to be super passionate about what

you do. There’s many people who aren’t, but if you are, you’re unstoppable. It gets you up in the morning and gets you excited. I think that’s what people need to look for. Am I satisfied with what I’m doing? Is this going to fulfill me for the rest of my life? People settle for the status quo and they need to look outside of the box, they need to dream again. So many people don’t dream anymore because they’re living in a little cubical. There’s so many possibilities out there, you just need to look for them. It’s important for your children that you dream, so that they dream as well. I’m passionate about parents being great parents and taking the time to believe in them and show them there are possibilities.

C: You’ve mentioned when your son was growing up you would always tell him how grateful you were he was your child. What does the power of gratitude mean to you? K: I took a class and it helped me take gratitude to the next level.

We had to text everyone in our family how grateful we are. We would use voice text because it’s much more powerful. I used do this to my son, because when you have a teenager they look at you like your crazy sometimes. I would send him a text but he’d never say anything. He later told me that made a huge difference in his life. To this day, I still do it all the time. If you have teenagers this will make a huge impact on your child’s life.

C: “Find a role model who’s already living your vision.” How important is it to have the right role model for you? K: I think having role models is essential. You need to pick some-

one and tell them they are your role model, and that they are the one you’re looking up to. That makes them feel good and it will make them give back to you more. I think it’s important to interview them and find out some of the things they have gone through. That can help pave your pathway and learn from other people’s pathways.

C: Your company Isagenix, you have so many associates and many people working with and for you. It seems to me like one big family. K: It is, people thrive in that family environment. They want that culture of people helping people. I just got off a huge call with one of our top income earners. They are our really good friends. They come to our house and we love them like family.

C: What can we expect from Isagenix by the end of 2020, beginning of 2021? Is there anything that you can share with us that’s new and exciting? K: We’re creating a new website, new apps and we just

launched a new little robot that goes in peoples back office and helps them. We are always upgrading our products. We recently launched our new Whole Blend line, which includes shakes and bars made with nutrients sourced from organic whole foods. We are also bringing out a new product for the skin that I’m really excited to share about. I’ve already been using it for years. There’s lots of new things happening, it gets me so fired up.
