Denim Differentiated

Dressing up a denim jacket is an easy way to look chic yet comfortable. Adding a neutral colored sweater dress under the jacket adds a more sophisticated vibe to the outfit. Try adding a pair of your favorite black knee-high boots. Knee-highs have been a huge trend within fashion for a few years now. They shape your legs in just the right way and add a stylish sensation to any garment. Using darker colors such as grey and black will dress up the lightly colored denim and create a classy look with little effort. For a more casual but put together look, try adding a hoodie under the denim. Next, pick out your favorite pair of distressed black jeans and cuff them at the bottom. Black jeans and denim jackets are truly meant to go together. Lastly, rock a pair of classic white sneakers. For an extra detail, pop on a baseball cap. Baseball caps are a cute and casual touch to outfits and are life saviors when it comes to bad hair days. Tying a garment around your waist is a cute and laid-back look that adds style to any and everything you wear. To pair with a denim jacket, incorporate a neutral crop top to balance out the look. Then, add a pair of high-waisted distressed black jeans. Black on black is still thriving in the fashion world and by utilizing the addition of a tied denim jacket, your look will be even more fashion-forward. Lastly, to put this entire look together, put on a pair of high-heeled black booties. These booties are a statement piece because they provide some height and elevate the outfit. 1

The words beauty and makeup are most commonly associated with the female gender. They provoke feelings of femininity and adjectives such as beautiful and pretty. In a patriarchal society, beauty and makeup associated with the male gender has been seen as unmasculine or unmanly. However, over the last several years men’s beauty and makeup has become more socially accepted and recognized. One of the most public and renowned steps in this direction was when teen makeup artist, James Charles, became the first ever male Covergirl. Charles was not the first to break into the beauty community as a male, as notable influences such as Jeffree Star, Manny MUA, and Patrick Starrr have carved the path to a more inclusive and genderneutral future. These beauty gurus showcased their passion for makeup on YouTube, with the freedom and ability to create whatever content they desired. The evolving beauty community has normalized men’s beauty and makeup, in turn impacting society’s views to shift. Society today is guided by millennials and their viewpoints, which are more openminded and less conservative than generations before. Men’s beauty steps beyond society’s boundaries to empower and demonstrate the power of makeup and the confidence it instills in being one’s true authentic self.

Fashion is a lifestyle that has driven me to really grow more. Fashion is an area where you can truly be yourself and experiment. However fashion is something everyone can learn, your personal style is where each person can really grow. My personal style is a mix of four essentials; high fashion, streetwear, thrifted clothing, and pieces I made myself. Being able to mix my style and not stick to one is something I value. My style differs from day to day, from classy to complete street. Staying true to your style is very important; even though it may not be the popular style, it’s your style.

s college students, it is a constant struggle getting your closet full of the new clothes when rent is due in a couple of days. Your ideal look can be created with only a few pieces! No need to break the bank with so many new trends this coming spring. Mix and match is your best friend! You can mix different colors, patterns, and textiles to maximize the outfits you can create in your closet. One pair of old jeans can be combined with almost all colors in the form of shirts, sweaters and jackets. One neutral colored shirt can be paired with many shades of jeans, slacks, leggings, or skirts. The spring trends of 2018 include the blending of different patterns and textiles. Florals can be mixed with stripes, plaids can be layered with frills, and denim can be topped with....
more denim! Costume jewelry can spice up any outfit. Changing your necklace from a choker to a pendant can modify the entire mood of your look. One outfit can be boho or grunge just by the simple change of jewelry. A single outfit can shift from casual to formal with a pair of dangled earrings and a rhinestone statement necklace. For men, layer any of your hoodies with a flannel or outer jacket for several different color combinations! Swap your booties for flats to get a more professional look with the same outfit. Change your Vans to dress shoes for a classic, elegant substitute. Top your causal outfit with a peacoat to turn heads. There are endless combination to utilize all the trendy things you already have in your closet. You’ve spent years collecting all these great pieces, now get creative with it! 5

The future is here! This spring, Ultra Violet is a look into what fashion has for us. It creates inspiration in all aspects of our world, and galaxy! The desire of futuristic, space inspired trends starts with this color, influencing different ideas from a new perspective. This innovative color is stimulating new looks on the runway. It creates art for us to wear while giving us a sneak peek into the near future. Ultra Violet also symbolizes the development of technology, something that we see being used in fashion more and more. This color can dominate your entire outfit, or be a small element in your ensemble. This color is in command of the runway and is seen in all shapes, silhouettes, and shoes. Other big trends of spring 2018 can be combined with UltraViolet. A long trench coat can make a statement or a bold slack can make you the center of attention. To rock this look, use this color in a blazer or heels with a slicked back pony tail to bring out that futuristic, galactic look. Don’t want something so powerful? Add a splash of it in your scarf or jewelry as a little pop of color to add something unique to your spring outfits. We are seeing this color all around beauty from nails to shadows to hair color. FROM FASHION TO FUNCTION, THE NEW WAY TO STRIDE INTO STYLE Nike, Champion, and Adidas. What comes to mind when you see these brands? Football? Basketball? Track? Well, a few years ago that would have been the most common connection. Though today, these brands are most recently identified with shopping, grabbing lunch with friends, and even hitting the streets of New York Fashion Week. Athleisure is trending far and wide amongst the world’s trendiest of youths. From 90’s style track pants, to technologically advanced running shoes, clothing that was once meant for functional use has now evolved into the fashionable way to dress for every day.

What has spurred this trend of wearing athletic wear as a casual day-to-day look? Most believe comfort plays a key factor into this style evolution. Why wear denim when high tech dri-fit leggings are so readily available? Athleisure wear wins in the war between comfort and style, for it strategically incorporates both aspects into one. With new technology available to create clothing that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing to the eye, there is no contest between boring denim jeans and high-tech leggings.
Popularity of the trend is not only attributed to its functional yet fashionable aesthetic but additionally to its accessibility and versatility. Some trends are limited to fast-fashion stores such as Forever 21 and H&M, but athletic wear is available in many stores with varying price ranges. Brands such as Adidas, Fila, and Vans are shining in a larger spotlight as more people are looking to find quality athletic apparel and accessories that can transition into athleisure looks. Investing in a pair of high quality, higher-end trainer shoes is great way to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe because they can be worn with variety of looks apart from those that you wear to the gym. For a generation full of multi-taskers, this trend suits millennial’s needs who don’t have time to switch up their outfits multiple times a day. There’s no better way to hit the streets in a fresh head-to-toe look that is functional yet fashionable. The athleisure wear trend is advancing forward and is certain to continue to blossom.

To a casual observer, the rural city of Pullman contains citizens championing brands like The North Face, Patagonia, Lululemon, and other common brands sported in the Pacific Northwest. However, with a closer look, you’re bound to discover otherwise. Located in the center of the Palouse wheat fields, Pullman still harbors urban roots in its streetwear. This is a continuing trend throughout campus as more inspirational styles continue to appear on students of all genders. The fashion leaders that appear on campus seem to have a domino effect on the style of other students who want to further improve their own aesthetic whether it be for casual daywear or flashy attire for the evening and night.

Millenial Pink Here to Stay

Many are not familiar with the term ‘millennial pink.’ Not to be confused or correlated with the millennial generation, but the shade of pink is an alluring color that will not be falling out of trend any time soon. The shade is essentially a toned-down version of the infamous ‘Barbie Pink,’ which has turned out to have much more appeal. The shade is often featured in fashion spreads, as well as in home goods. The shade recently took off in Rihanna’s Fenty Spring 2017 collection as it featured various pastels, mainly highlighting the millennial pink. Often paired with other pastels, shades of beige, tans, or off-white, the shade of millennial pink is not predicted to fall off the color trend map any time soon.

This spring, there are a variety of new makeup trends to try out! Whether you like light neutrals or dark smokey eyes, this spring is the time for you to stand out. The natural look has always been a classic go-to, and is still killing it! Brush on some simple, neutral, shimmer eyeshadow with light mascara and you’re ready for school, work, or a night out. The “Light Look” is versatile and can be worn for any event, any time of day. Illuminate your cheekbones with heavy highlight to spark up your look for those special events.
