Mixed Use Building on Gaines St.

School of Architecture Coffee House

Placing a coffee shop in a location that we are very familiar with. It was fun to imagine having our very own coffee shop in our place of study. The goal was to in corporate a two-story coffee shop in the school of architecture without disrupting the previous circulation and organization of the structure.

Wakulla Springs Museum

The concept was accomplished by having an open area in the center of the structure, and hav ing hidden passageways leading to different parts of the structure.

The goal was to put emphasis on the history of Wakulla Springs and the people who worked at the lodge. To achieve that, the concept of concealed vs. revealed was used to reflect the known history vs. the hidden history of Wakulla.

Mixed Use Building on Gaines

This project focuses on the design of a multipur pose building, including retail on the lower level and residential on the upper levels. Also focus ing on the design of a parking garage. Both structures are located at the corner of Gaines St and Macomb St.

In designing this project, modules are used to create the structure, and will be seen all throughout. Patterns are another design method that is used throughout the structures. Diagram

Urban Role/Action Words Central Axis Point

• Courtyard • Focal

This is a two-part project; the first objective was to create our own urban fabric within an existing location. Chosen location is Tokyo, Japan. The idea was to create a center focal point that had branches attached to it.

The second part of the project was an extension of the urban fabric interven tion, going further into the design of the structure. Focusing on one structure in particular, inviting geometrical shapes into the design.

Wood Hybrid Project

The idea for the wood institute was to make the structure in the shape of a leaf. The curve of the structure is an important part of the concept. The curve on the apartment structure is to correlate with the wood institute so that they wouldn’t look like two separate buildings. I wanted to have the plaza in the center of the two buildings so that it felt more open and the streets on either side could be seen.

Compositional Traces - Ortigia, Sicily

Started out with lines at different angles and at different lengths, and was going in an abstract direction. Then I went on to explore how I could possibly make those lines into shapes. I began to overlap different quadrilateral figure to form some thing of a collage.

Compositional Diagram

In looking at my fragmented pieces, it occurred to me that they resembled the ruins that are located near the site. This gave a great opportunity to pay homage to the culture and the history of Ortigia.

I then decided to work with solids and spaces, black verses white. I played around with two options, shading in the con nection sites, and then shading in the parts that were left over.

Contemplating how I should make this collage into something structural, I decided to take fragmented pieces that can be picked out throughout the collage. All consisting of different shapes and sizes.
