A UGUSTANA C HAPEL
S ERVICE OF L EAVE -T AKING
This artwork, titled simply Baptism, is one in a series of three pieces depicting elements of Lutheran worship. The artist worked from photographs of baptisms that took place in the font of the Augustana Chapel at Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago to create the piece. Surrounded by a worshipping community and with rich imagery from the natural world, Baptism is a celebration of the new life we find in the waters of baptism.

ABOUT THE RUTH AND PAUL MANZ ORGAN
The Ruth and Paul Manz Organ was built by the M.L. Bigelow Company of American Fork, Utah as their opus 31. Installed during the summer of 2004, it was dedicated later that year on November 11 in honor of the Christ Seminary-Seminex Professor of Church Music and Artist-in-Residence Emeritus, Dr. Paul Manz, and his wife, Ruth. The two-manual and pedal organ has mechanical (tracker) key action and electric stop action, 31 ranks of pipes, 25 independent voices, and 1,662 pipes. The organ has served as one of the many ways assembly song is led in LSTC worship services and has been a vital part of the seminary community’s musical and liturgical life. The organ was frequently featured in the LSTC Chapel Music Series and was the focal point of the monthly Manz Organ Recital Series.

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS AND SOURCES
The processional cross used in this service was created by Harold Martin in 1968 and accompanied those students and faculty who came to LSTC from Christ SeminarySeminex several years after the walkout from Concordia Seminary in 1974.
The communion vessels used this evening were created by Nora Ausrienne, spouse of LSTC alum Valdas Ausra. The set was commissioned so that there would be matching vessels for use at graduations and large community Eucharists. Made from porcelain and created with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, each whimsical piece is unique yet obviously part of the collection.

RECONCILING IN CHRIST (RIC) STATEMENT

As a Reconciling in Christ seminary, LSTC seeks to ofer hospitality and welcome to all who enter LSTC’s academic programs. Following Jesus Christ, whose reconciling love bridged barriers and made strangers friends, we seek to welcome and learn from one another’s particularity — including but not limited to one another’s race, national or ethnic origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, physical ability, social status and theological diversity.
LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT
LSTC recognizes that our school stands on the lands of the Potawatomi, Miami, and Peoria peoples. For thousands of years before their forced removal, this was their traditional homeland, and it continues to hold their ancestral stories and wisdom. We honor and thank the elders of these and other nations, past and present. These lands are still home to many indigenous people, and we are grateful to learn in this place.
