A word from your Residence Manager, TOBY
Hi everyone,
I’d like to give you all a very warm welcome to LUNA Students! We’re really excited to have you with us this year and can’t wait to see the community come together.
Moving into student accommodation is such a big step, and our team is here to make sure you feel at home from day one. If you need anything, whether it’s help settling in, advice on the local area, or support with your tenancy, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
You’ll soon get to know your fellow students, and we’ll be hosting events and activities throughout the year to help you settle in and make new friends. Keep an eye on your emails and the StuRents portal for updates.
Once again, welcome to LUNA Students, we’re looking forward to a great year ahead with you.
See you soon!

ACCESSIBILITY
If you’d like any of our property information in a different format or language, just let the LUNA team know,

GET CONNECTED
GET CONNECTED TO OUR WIFI
Now that you’re moved in and getting comfy in your new home, let’s get you online. You’ll need to fill in your inventory too (we’ll use it as a reference when you move out), but first things first — WiFi!
LOGGING ON
Connecting is simple:
• Switch on WiFi on your device and connect to ASK4 Wireless.
• Open a browser — you’ll be taken straight to the ASK4 sign-up page.
• Register using your email address and follow the step-by-step guide.
Once you’re signed up, you’re good to go. Want faster speeds or extra kit? You can choose upgrades during registration.
Your login works everywhere in the building — including common areas. Just select ASK4 and log in with your details.
WIFI CALLING
Struggling to get a 4G OR 5G signal indoors? Switch on WiFi Calling on your smartphone. It lets you make calls and send texts over the building’s WiFi, so you’ll always be connected.

Support: If you’re having any issues, contact ASK4 directly:

SAFETY,
SUPPORT & FACILITIES
FIRE ALARM
If the fire alarm sounds, please:
• Stay put in your flat with the door shut, unless there’s smoke or fire inside.
• Keep calm and wait for the fire service or LUNA team to give instructions.
• Definitely don’t use the lifts.
If you’re told to leave, or if there’s fire/smoke in your flat:
• Follow the green exit signs to get out safely.
• Leave your stuff behind (yes, even your laptop — it’s replaceable, you’re not).
• Head straight to the Leeds College building — that’s our Fire Assembly Point.
• Nobody may re-enter until the fire authorities say it’s safe.
WEEKLY TEST
Every Tuesday at 11:30AM.
This is the only time you don’t need to evacuate, unless the alarm continues.
If you hear the alarm in the corridor but not inside your room, let the team know straight away.
Please never tamper with fire safety equipment, this is a criminal offence. This includes your smoke detector within your bedrooms. It puts everyone at risk. Any damage or call-out charges will be billed to the resident(s) responsible — costs can reach up to £2500. You are also responsible
for your guests’ actions in the building.
HEALTH & WELLBEING
If you injure yourself or feel unwell, let the team know — we are always here to help. Please don’t suffer in silence.
• Register with the NHS and a local GP practice as soon as possible so you are set up before you need medical advice. You can find local GP surgeries here: www.nhs.uk/ service-search/find-a-gp
• For non-emergency medical advice, call NHS 111 or visit 111.nhs.uk
• For emergencies, always dial 999
Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, whether it’s study pressure, living away from home or personal challenges. If you are struggling with your wellbeing or mental health, please speak to us. We will listen and connect you with the right support.
We are also proud to be part of the Behind Every Door campaign. You’ll find a QR code on the back of your room door which links directly to trusted support resources, available whenever you need them.
FIRST AID
First aid is available on site — just ask a member of the team if you need help.
ROOM KEYS
You’ll be given a fob when you move in — this is your key to the building and to your studio, so please keep it safe.
Your studio door is programmed to lock automatically behind you when you leave, so always make sure you have your fob with you.
If the light on your door lock flashes amber or red (instead of green), let the team know straight away — it usually means the battery pack needs replacing, and if it’s not fixed you could get locked out.
If you do get locked out:
During office hours: pop down to reception and we’ll help you back in.
Out of hours: call the emergency number and a member of the team will come to assist.
BIKE STORAGE
We have secure bike storage on site. Please use a good lock to keep your bike safe.
MAIL & PARCELS
Letters: Collect anytime from your personal mailbox
Parcels: Collect from the team Monday–Friday, 9am–6pm

HOW TO USE EVERYTHING
INDUCTION HOB
• Turn on the power switch on the wall
• Use the knob to adjust the heat.
• Make sure your pots and pans are induction-ready (brands like Berghoff, Tefal and Blaumann work well)
Remember:
• Never leave the hob unattended while in use.
• Don’t lean over the hob or leave tea towels or items on top.
• IKEA branded utensils often don’t work with induction hobs, even if they say induction-ready.
• Always wipe down after use — leftover food on the hob will keep heating up and may smoke, this is one of the most common causes of fire alarms.
OVEN
• Choose your setting (grill, hot air, top heat, etc).
• Select the temperature.
• Set the cooking time.
• The oven will heat automatically
MICROWAVE
• Choose the power level.
• Turn the time knob to set how long you need.
• Close the door gently.
• Press Start.
Microwave do’s and don’ts:
• Don’t put metal, foil or containers with
metal decoration inside.
• Don’t cover the ventilation slots.
• Do clean it regularly.
• Do remove packaging from ready meals as per instructions.
BATHROOM & HOT WATER
• Showers have a temperature dial so you can control how hot or cold you’d like your shower
• Taps turn left for hotter water, right for colder.
• If your shower drain blocks, please clear hair or debris from the tray. The team can help if needed, but cleaning charges may apply.
LAUNDRY
• Open the door and load your clothes.
• Add detergent directly into the drum or use the drawer
• Choose your wash or dry programme
• Press start
HEATING
• Each studio and flat comes with its own electric heater, so you can control the temperature to suit you. If you’re unsure how to use it, just ask the team and we’ll happily show you.
Please don’t hang clothes on the heater or cover it in any way. It’s a fire risk — and you don’t need to, as every flat is fitted with a washer/dryer to take
GOOD TO KNOW
RUBBISH & RECYCLING
Keeping the building clean and safe is a shared responsibility.
• Always bag and tie your rubbish before taking it to the designated waste area (we’ll show you where this is when you move in).
• Please break down cardboard boxes before placing them in the bins
• All rubbish must go into the bins provided. Items left in hallways, stairwells, or common areas are a fire safety hazard and may result in charges for removal.
Bin colours and what goes where:
• Brown bins – organic waste (food, compost)
• Green bins – recyclable items (paper, cardboard, plastics)
• Black bins – general mixed waste
• Blue bins – glass only
Regular cleaning is carried out in communal and high footfall areas, but your room is your own responsibility. Please keep it tidy and use the bins provided to avoid charges and fire risks.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
Your safety is our priority when it comes to electrical equipment. Only use UK-fused plugs and appliances that meet UK safety standards.
International plugs without fuses (often found on overseas devices) can be dangerous and may cause fire or electric shock. These are not permitted in the building.
If you’re unsure about an appliance, bring it to reception and the team will be happy to check it for you.
Do not overload sockets or use multiple extension leads.
Never leave electrical items (such as hair straighteners) switched on and unattended.
BUILDING SAFETY
For everyone’s peace of mind, please make sure your windows are closed when you leave your room and always check your door is locked behind you.
We can’t take responsibility for items left unattended in common areas, so keep your valuables safe and your space secure.
ENERGY & UTILITIES
Your rent covers all the essentials — gas, electricity, water and unlimited WiFi — under our fair usage policy.
One thing not included is your TV licence, which you’ll need to arrange yourself if you plan to watch or stream live TV or BBC iPlayer.

POLICIES & COMMUNITY STANDARDS
DIVERSITY & RESPECT
LUNA is proud to be home to people from all over the world, with different backgrounds, cultures and experiences. We value diversity and ask all residents to be respectful, kind and inclusive. Everyone has the right to feel safe and supported, and it’s up to all of us to help create that atmosphere.
These principles are part of your licence agreement, and they guide how we live together as the LUNA community.
RESPECT FOR OTHERS
First and foremost, every resident has the right to study and rest. Please respect this by keeping noise at a reasonable level at all times.
Courtesy hours: 24 hours a day in all hallways, rooms and lounges (noise should be kept within reason).
Quiet hours:
Sunday–Thursday: 10pm–8am Friday–Saturday: 11pm–8am
During quiet hours, noise should not be heard outside your room, including from lounges or hallways.
COMPLAINTS
We want you to feel comfortable raising any concerns. If something’s not right, please contact your residence manager first — we’ll do our best to resolve it quickly.
The full complaints procedure is available on our website, or just ask the team and we’ll share it with you.
PAYMENTS
All your account details, including charges, payments and any outstanding balances, can be found on your online portal. Simply log in and select “Account” at the top of the screen.
SMOKING
Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the building. Any costs for cleaning or redecorating due to smoking will be charged to the resident.
ALCOHOL & SUBSTANCES
Alcohol can be consumed in designated common areas, as long as it’s within the law and does not disturb others.
The use, storage or distribution of illegal substances is strictly prohibited. Any breach will be referred to the authorities and may result in termination of your licence agreement.
GUESTS & VISITORS
Guests are welcome, but you’re responsible for their behaviour while they’re in the building.
Guests must always be accompanied by a resident and checked in at reception during office hours.
Daytime guests are unlimited, but overnight guests are limited to one per resident per night.
The same overnight guest cannot stay for more than three consecutive nights.
We reserve the right to charge for any damage caused by guests.
POLICIES & COMMUNITY STANDARDS
CHECKING OUT
We’ll be sad to see you go. Check-out is by 10am on the date stated in your licence agreement.
Please make sure you take all personal belongings with you. Anything left behind will be treated as abandoned and disposed of at your expense.
Closer to your departure date, we’ll share a step-by-step check-out guide so you know exactly what to do.

living lighter at luna
AT LUNA, WE CARE ABOUT MORE THAN JUST PROVIDING A PLACE TO LIVE. WE’RE PASSIONATE ABOUT CREATING COMMUNITIES THAT HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT — ON EACH OTHER AND ON THE PLANET.
YOUR RENT COVERS YOUR UTILITIES UNDER OUR FAIR USAGE POLICY, BUT WE ALL HAVE A PART TO PLAY IN BEING MINDFUL OF HOW MUCH ENERGY AND WATER WE USE. SMALL CHANGES ADD UP QUICKLY WHEN HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE LIVE UNDER ONE ROOF. BY MAKING SMART CHOICES, YOU’RE HELPING TO REDUCE OUR ENVIRONMENTAL FOOTPRINT AND KEEP COSTS FAIR FOR EVERYONE IN THE LUNA COMMUNITY.

IN YOUR ROOM
• Switch it off – Turn off lights when you leave the room and unplug chargers or appliances when you’re not using them
• Use your heater wisely – Don’t leave it running all day. A lower setting for longer is more efficient than blasting it on high.
• Layer up – Sometimes a jumper or blanket is all you need instead of cranking up the heat.
IN THE KITCHEN
• Boil what you need – Only fill the kettle with the water you’ll use.
• Cook smart – Use lids on pans to speed up cooking, and try batch cooking to make the most of oven heat.
• Keep it clear – Don’t block the fridge or freezer with warm items or leave the door open for too long — it uses extra energy to cool down again.
LAUNDRY & SHOWERS
• Full loads only – Wait until you have a full load before using the washer/dryer. It saves energy, water and money.
• Cooler washes – Most clothes are fine on a 30°C wash — it’s gentler on your clothes and the planet.
AROUND THE BUILDING
• Close windows when you leave – It keeps the heat in and reduces energy waste
• Recycle right – Use the correct bins for recycling, food waste and general waste.
• Lift or stairs? – If you’re only going up a floor or two, take the stairs. It saves energy and keeps you moving.
WHY IT MATTERS
• If every resident makes small changes, the impact is huge: lower carbon emissions, less waste, and a community that takes pride in looking after the place we call home.
• At LUNA, we’re committed to building sustainable communities and we’re so grateful for your part in this. Together, we can keep LUNA a place that’s not just good to live in — but good for the planet too.
• Shorter showers – Try to keep showers to five minutes. It saves litres of water and cuts down on heating energy.
