Don’t choose between form and function. Get both. Copenhagen City LED gen2 The latest generation of the Philips Copen hagen City LED gen2 offers fully balanced, comfortable lighting effects with minimum glare. It’s enabled by a round LED engine, which follows the shape of the luminaire. The opal canopy option provides further possibilities to enhance the lighting impact. Plus, it provides new options for city branding, as it can be used to createboth static (glow effect) and dynamic (RGBW) uplight. The luminaire comes with a variety of suspensions and optics, offering maximum freedom in designing lighting for both city centers and residential areas.

IoT lighting for offices

System components in IoT lighting

IoT lighting systems are changing the professional workplace, making them more personalized, more flexible, healthier, more efficient, and altogether more intelligent. Because lighting is installed everywhere that people go in an office, it acts as a natural means of distributing IoT capabilities throughout a workplace. Sensor data from the illuminated environment can combine with other data sources (calendars, schedules, BIM systems) to offer new insights for both facilities managers and employees.

Interact Office is a leading example of an IoT lighting system specifically designed for offices and other professional interior spaces. Interact Office uses connected LED luminaires, sensors, and other connected devices with established networking and cloud architectures to enable data gathering and sharing via software dashboards, apps and APIs.

Systems for IoT lighting

Sensors

Open APIs

Interact Office systems can host different types of sensors to collect data about the illuminated environment, including motion, light level, and occupancy. Positioning and density of sensors depends on many factors, including ceiling height and configuration of space.

Open, secure APIs accessible through the Web-based Interact Developer Portal allow system integrators and application developers to extend Interact with new capabilities, and to inte grate Interact data and commands with data and commands from other connected systems.

Wireless communications

Standard networking architecture

Compatible connected devices use wireless communications, based on the Zigbee 3.0 open standard, to participate in a mesh network. Mesh networks are self-healing, which means that the system continues to operate even if an individual device fails.

Wireless gateways, deployed within a company’s standard IT infrastructure, communicate with connected devices via Zigbee. The system uses a bridge to connect with the Interact IoT platform in the cloud. Interact software applications offer Web-based system management, operations, and control.

Interact Office: wired and wireless Building connectivity bridge

Signify delivers Interact Office with both wired and wireless architectures. This gives light ing specifiers and system archi tects great flexibility to design connected lighting systems that are optimized for different cir cumstances. The wired version is best for new construction and deep renovations. The cloud-based wireless version is ideal for renovations or any project where you want to avoid installing new electrical or data cabling. Interact Office online ›

Smart lighting delivers award-winning energy savings Atlas building, TU/e campus University of Technology, Eindhoven, The Netherlands

Projects

Built in 1968, Atlas, one of the main buildings on the TU/e cam pus, needed an upgrade. The university wanted to modernize the building’s interior while improving the way people used the space, with a focus on sustainability, cost reduction, and comfort for occupants. The Interact Office system at TU/e comprises 4,400 connected TrueLine LED luminaires, each

Occupancy insights lead to space and cost savings for Citaverde Citaverde College Heerlen, The Netherlands

A sustainable future

Optimal space management

Efficient building management

Smart image

Like other schools and education institutions, Citaverde College is committed to playing a positive role in society. Interact Office gives them every opportunity to lead by example and promote sustainability, proactively con tributing to a greener community.

Providing enough classrooms and space to meet demand is an age-old concern for educators. By sharing accurate data on classroom occupancy in real time, Interact Office helps Citaverde College ensure that its space is used as efficiently and effectively as possible.

It is often difficult for schools to know exactly how their buildings are being used every day. In addition, buildings must create a return on investment—empty space is not an option. Interact Office gives Citaverde College unique insight so that its building portfolio and operations can be optimized and managed proficiently.

Education is a competitive domain, so every school needs a unique selling point. Young people in the south of the Netherlands want a school that can offer them a state-of-the-art digital learning environment. With Interact Office makes Citaverde College smart, data-driven, and connected.

Clue Competition

Clue Competition 2020 Exploring the role of light in emergencies Ever thought how lighting could help in a crisis or emergency? Or how it could save someone’s life? This year we received more than 300 brilliant and creative entries showing how light can |make a difference in a crisis. Community Lighting for the Urban Environment (CLUE), is an annual competition aimed at young and emerging lighting designers, challenging them to design mean ingful projects for communities around the world.

Supported by the Signify Lighting Academy, CLUE invites the aspiring designers to consider pressing societal issues and envision innovative design projects. This year’s competition theme was ‘Exploring the role of light in emergencies.’ The task was to show how light can make a difference in places and situations where people feel vulnerable, such as conflicts, or times of disruption and environ mental crisis. And is there a role for light to help prevent or manage a crisis? Clue Competition ›

ACCELEROMETER

Top prize-winning project ‘Beskut’ by Clarissa Concilio from Denmark The top prize-winning project went to Clarissa Concilio from Denmark. Her project, ‘Beskut’, seeks to improve the well-being of refugee children with sleep disorders. It’s not uncommon for such children to have nightmares or difficulties in sleeping or fall ing asleep. Often this is a conse quence of the trauma they have experienced and, in some cases, can contribute to mental health issues such as PTSD, depression, and anxiety.

LED (640nm)

‘Beskut’ is a toy that emits a beating red light (640nm) that relaxes the child and lulls them to sleep. It is the perfect toy to be given to children when they first arrive at a refugee camp. A gen tle movement of the light, simu lating a breath, relaxes the child, soothing the anxiety and stress caused by the trauma. When the child falls asleep, the movement stops (as measured by an accel erometer) and the light slowly dims down. While when the child is awake or distressed, the light intensity increases to calm the child. ACCELEROMETER LED (640nm)
