This is the second part of Lumen’s Back-toSchool Supplies Project for children in rural areas. The continuity of the distribution activity was enabled by the extra supplies from the first area, the Umagos Elementary School (UES) in Lagonglong, Misamis Oriental.

These school children bear the burden of knowing their families won’t be able to provide the needed school supplies.

When the children go to school, it’s bad enough that some of them have limited food at home. They don’t have to worry about having no pad paper.

The experience in Umagos showed that school supplies created an equitable learning environment inside the classrooms. The school children all have the needed supplies.

Something seemingly so simple as owning a pencil and a sharpener have an impact on the child’s participation in class and transcends to a marked difference in her/his self-esteem.
