Just for Fun

A Little Humour in Our Current Situation

• Is it too early to put up the Christmas tree yet? I have run out of things to do.

• If these last months have taught us anything, it’s that stupidity travels faster than any virus on the planet, particularly among politicians and bureaucrats.

• Just wait a second – so what you're telling me is that my chance of surviving all this is directly linked to the common sense of others? You’re kidding, right?

• Remember when you were little and all your underwear had the days of the week on them. Those would be helpful right now.

• The spread of Covid-19 is based on two factors: 1. How dense the population is and 2. How dense the population is.

• Remember all those times when you wished the weekend would last forever? Well, wish granted. Happy now?

• It may take a village to raise a child, but I swear it’s going to take a whole vineyard to home school one.

• I did a big load of pajamas so I would have enough clean work clothes for this week.

CLARIFICATION - Flu immunization clinics in Interior Health

(I

Interior Health (IH) needs to clarify that influenza immunizations will continue to be available through IH and our community partners this fall. We apologize for any concerns and confusion a recent letter to our community vaccine providers has created. We agree that it is even more important for people to get immunized this year given the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The only change here is to our normal drop-in clinics, which will not be happening. This recognizes that bringing in groups of people into these locations does create a risk of COVID-19 exposure, particularly to those most vulnerable to COVID-19 and the flu. Community providers like pharmacies and primary care offices were already providing 70 per cent of the immunizations in Interior Health as of last year.

People will still be able to make

appointments through public health, and we are also supporting our community providers to continue making flu shots available in pharmacies, travel clinics and primary care settings.

Our priority working with our partners is to ensure everyone who wants a flu shot this season will get it.

ARTBEAT Arts

We’re Back!!! The Monashee Arts Council office/ Village Gallery has reopened – we are open Monday-Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Our first gallery show is by the amazing QuArtz Art group and features several amazing pieces of fabric art that have been created to incorporate tea bags into the works. It is a truly stunning exhibition! Make sure you stop by to see the artwork in person… the show runs until the end of July.

(COVID-19 safety precautions in place)

The Arts Matter! Many people turned to the arts for some company and solace over the past few months, either by watching/listening online or by creating & sharing themselves. Here’s a big round of applause to the many artists from all walks of life who remained committed to sharing in whatever ways they could and to all those who have been supporting

The text in last week's issue should have read as follows:

The attached piece was created by 14 year old, BriannaSue Arsenault (Anderson), who had posted the image on the "a World of Hearts" Facebook page.  As BriannaSue says, "Hope among Sadness" was painted because she was really missing her friend. "The flower crown represents the hope and beauty her words meant to me that day, the tears represent the sadness I was feeling."

What Do You Call A Moon Out Of Orbit?... A Lunatic! Gardening by the Light of the Moon

The Lumby and Districts first market of the season went very well. It was delightful to see so many vendors and all the people who came to shop and to see us! I think all went very well with social distancing efforts and I think everyone felt safe and welcome.

We all know that the moon affects the tides, peoples moods and many other things in our lives but the affect that it has on gardening is quite profound. It is very simple and has been used over the ages and is scientifically provable. The Best Days are determined by the 12 zodiac signs, lunar phase and even planetary relationships.

To understand the moons affects you need know about the waxing and the waning of the moon. The time of the new moon to the time of the full moon is called the waxing of the moon. From the full moon to the new moon is referred to the waning. During the waxing of the moon its pull will draw more moisture to the surface which is great for your planted seeds. It will also during this time stimulate leaf growth. During the waning of the moon less leaf stimulation will occur and more root energy is provided. So if one were to plant annual flowers and other plants and vegetables that have crops above ground this would be considered to be the Best Days for this. Plants that produce root crops such as bulbs, tubers and perennials which should optimally be stimulated to grow roots for best results plus any vegetables that

produce root crops such as onions, beets, carrots and potatoes should be planted during the waning moon for best results as roots are more stimulated and leaf growth slows.

As far back as the 18th century it was believed that you should never plant the same thing in the same place twice. It is now called plant rotation and is a good way to prevent your soil from being depleted, and even that and the use and building of your compost is affected by the pull of the moon.

Pollinating insects and pests that invade the garden are also influenced by the phases of the moon. Pollinators are more active at night with a waxing moon and less so during the day. They have more energy during the day when the moon is in its first quarter.

Cannabis And Period Pain: Can It Really Help?

Excerpted with permission from an article by Dr. Aviva Romm, to read the entire article, see: avivaromm.com/cannabis-period pain; or listen on soundcloud.com

“Unfortunately, there’s no set of dosage guidelines nor one specific form of using Cannabis or CBD that has been shown to be more effective for dysmen-

orrhea. It just hasn’t been studied enough to reach any conclusions. Each of us has a unique threshold at which we might experience symptom relief, and also different levels of tolerance to the psychoactive effects of THC-containing products should you choose one of those. It can take a bit of gentle personal experimentation to determine whether Cannabis or CBD is right for you, which product, and at what dose. A basic guideline: start low and go slow.

One additional guideline that I give my patients when it comes to treating period pain, including with NSAIDs, is don’t wait until the pain is miserable to treat; pre-empt it. Do the same with your holistic period pain prevention. If you typically start getting period pain a day or two before you start bleeding, start using calcium, magnesium, and some of the other natural remedies and approaches I mention here (avivaromm.com/dysmenorrhea/) a few days ahead of time, and if needed, start using your cho-

When the moon is further from the sun in both summer and winter and at its nearest point to the earth plants will be most vulnerable to pests and fungal diseases. Harvesting too is best done with a full moon however when its time its time and waiting several days until a full moon may not be optimal. I usually harvest my garlic at the end of July during the long weekend however the full moon is on the 3rd so I will wait until then and see if I am happier with the results. I checked on them a week ago and they were not ready yet, but close.

This all must be tempered with the time we have and the obvious readiness of what needs to be done in the yard and garden but something to consider!

Happy Gardening! Hope to see you at the market next Saturday!

SENIORS’ CORNER

Never Apart at Heart

Over the past few weeks, Whitevalley Community Resource Centre has conducted an informal questionnaire; asking local senior citizens what the biggest challenge has been for them during the COVID-19 pandemic. One may venture a guess that grocery shopping, going to appointments or finding transportation might top the list and granted, these things have been difficult for many but overwhelmingly, the answer was missing the social connection with friends and family.

Close relationships with others is vital to one’s

VILLAGE OF LUMBY

The 2019 Annual Report for the Village of Lumby is now available to interested members of the public. This report includes the audited Financial Statements for 2019, a progress report on 2019, goals and objectives for 2020, as well as other financial reports.

In accordance with Section 98 of the Community Charter, Council will be receiving submissions and questions from the public on the 2019 Annual Report at its Regular Meeting on Monday August 17, 2020 at 6:00 p.m.

Copies of the report are available for inspection at the Village Office, 1775 Glencaird Street, Lumby, BC Monday to Friday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. We are closed daily from noon to 1:00 p.m. for lunch.

health – physical, mental and emotional – self-esteem and even life longevity (according to recent research) so now, possibly more than ever, it is imperative to reach out to a senior in your life.

Pictured are Noella and Solonge, long-time friends that have been self-isolating for months. Both of these local ladies live relatively rurally in our community, which can make quarantining even lonelier. Recently, the duo was able to enjoy an outdoor visit for the first time this year and swap gardening tips in the afternoon sun, one of their favourite things. These ladies are both in their 80s and they each still grow their own garden! It is evident that true friends are never apart, maybe in distance but not at heart.

At Whitevalley Community Resource Centre we celebrate all seniors by supporting their trials and applauding their triumphs.

Conspiracy Theories and Why we Believe in Them

9/11 cover up, faked moon landings, flat earth, the Illuminati, a reptilian elite controlling the world… I’m sure you have come across at least one conspiracy theory. They’re everywhere! Floating around, gaining followers and then losing credibility. Like living organisms in an ideological realm: being born, getting fed, growing bigger (sometimes they couple with another theory to reproduce themselves), and then, eventually, they die.

In these times of struggles and uncertainty, where humanity seems to be threatened, conspiracy theories are flourishing like never before. Some people believe SARS-CoV-2 virus was engineered in a lab, stolen by the Chinese government and then deliberately spread as a bioweapon. Others believe it was a Jewish plot to profit from mass vaccination; a Muslim conspiracy; a population control scheme planned by environmentalist… People can get very creative.

But why do we engage in conspiracy theories? Psychology researchers seem to offer a few clues to understand this question.

The first concept that needs to be in place is “epistemic mistrust”, or the lack of faith in knowledge provided by institutions like governments or the scientific community. Historically, these authoritative figures have determined what is “true” and what isn’t. But, due to many examples of corruption among leaders, now the public is constantly suspicious about the official information. Secondly, “cognitive closure”, or the need to create an explanation when explanations are lacking. Some people simply cannot leave the mystery as a mystery and they prefer to create an explanation that “fits” their way of thinking. And that leads us to the third con-

What Do You Know About Strength Training?

A fit body is more resistant to serious illness and is able to better control blood pressure and weight. This May, as part of National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, the U.S. government challenges Americans to renew their commitment to a healthy and active lifestyle.

Are you looking to lose weight? Think twice before hitting the treadmill for a sweat-inducing hour of cardio. While steady-state aerobic exercise does enhance cardiorespiratory fitness, it actually has less of an impact on body composition than strength training.

What is strength training?

Strength training involves the precise and controlled movements of each major muscle group using varying degrees of resistance (or weight).

What are the benefits?

What many people don’t know is that strength

training boosts metabolism and helps burn more calories at rest, ultimately reducing body fat (provided a proper diet). While cardio expends calories during exercise for energy, it doesn’t have the same metabolism-enhancing effect as lifting weights.

Beyond burned fat and toned arms, pumping iron offers an array of other health benefits, such as:

• Minimizing risk of illnesses like osteoporosis, diabetes and cardiovascular disease

• Reducing stress and anxiety

• Improving balance, stability and overall flexibility

• Enhancing performance of everyday tasks (due to improved strength and endurance)

• Reducing risk of injury (due to stronger muscles, tendons and ligaments)

Now, for the best part: all the benefits of resistance training can be obtained in just two 30-minute sessions per week!

The time we devote to keeping our bodies moving will reward us with increased energy, productivity and years of good health. If you’re already active, step up to a new challenge!

How To Help A Loved One Get More Active

May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, and it’s time to talk about what you can do to make your life healthier so you can live better, longer. But what if you’ve already taken steps toward adopting a healthy lifestyle, while your spouse and kids linger in their old ways? With a bit of patience and understanding, you can share your inspiration and help them get moving too.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services recommends a few tips for how to get a loved one to join you in being more active and fit.

• Motivate.

Dig down and empathize with your spouse or kids. You remember what it was like to put off taking action, right? Tell your loved ones you know how hard it is to beat inertia. Invite them to join you at every

opportunity. Don’t nag; just inspire and be a good example.

• Change the way you celebrate. Instead of offering sugary treats or junk food as a reward for an achievement or momentous occasion (such as a good report card, a promotion at work or a birthday), offer a non-food gift. Even better, offer a gift that will help them get in shape, such as a gym membership or some sports equipment.

• Do more activities

together. Why not take a walk together after dinner? Or propose a bike ride on Sunday afternoon? You may even be able to join a recreational sports league together or take up a new couples sport, such as tennis or kayaking.

COLLEEN’S CORNER

Welcome to Colleen’s Corner. This is a column meant for fun and some information About myself: I am a Freelance Photographer you often see me on the side of the road  or in various places taking photos of different things animals, birds, places, people etc.  l have lived in Lumby just over 8 years, you have seen my photos in the newspaper (Lumby Valley Times) and once in awhile in the Vernon Morning Star, and the Lumby Art Gallery. Photography is my passion. Disclaimer:  The information on some of my photos that I write about a lot of times come from the Internet or books I research them, hopefully the facts are as close to the truth as I can come.

Such Pretty Colors

Ever since I was a little girl, I have been fascinated with nail polish. My sisters would wear such great colors, so of course whenever they did their nails, I would hold out my little hands to get my nails done too. I was ecstatic the days my sisters were doing their nails, because that would mean I would get mine done too WOOHOO!

Loving color as much as I do, my sisters would ask what color I wanted? My answer was always the same : all of them of course. So, my little finger nails were painted in reds, pinks, whites, and pale yellows. I was so proud of my nails showing them off to everyone I saw.

Then I would go outside to play, and wouldn't you know it, my nail colors would start to chip off. I was pretty upset about that as then I would have to wait at least another week, or longer to get them painted again. But playtime waited outside for me and my friends, so I would just have to be patient until the next painting day.

By the time it was for me to start getting my own nail polish, and putting it on myself they were so many colors to choose from, it was exhilarating!

Did you know that nail polish was invented before any of us were even thought of, never mind being born?

Yup that's right, it was created around 3000 BC by the Chinese.

At that time their nail polish would be made out of things like Beeswax, Egg Whites, Arabic Gum, and Vegetable Dyes or petals from flowers like Roses and Orchids for color.  Taking hours for the polish to dry.

Everyone wore nail polish, men and women. High and lower class of people. Ah, but there

were rules, the higher class of people could wear colors of Gold & Silver, (made from real silver or gold dust) which later was the Red & Black colors. But the lower class of people could only wear very light colors, if they were caught wearing the Golds, Silvers, Reds, or Blacks, it would be immediate death for them.

The Egyptians caught on to this fascinating thing of nail color using Henna, Cleopatra would dip her nails into this ink, her choice of color would be Blood Red.

The Babylon's would use Khol. Black being the highest ranking while pale green was for the lower ranks in class

At times they would tint their lips to match their nail polish.

In 1878 a lady by the name of Mary E. Cobb had been in France where she learned how to do Manicures. She copied this art, then improved it and brought it to the USA. Mary opened up the first Nail Salon, she called this little gem : Mrs. Prays Manicure. This was to become one of the most popular, and the most requested beauty service in the history of beauty .

Thank You Mary, from all of us that love our nails to you.

Mary eventually developed her own line of products, and created the first at home manicure guide. Mary also invented the Emery Board.

Over the years, Manicures were so popular, companies that were not big then, but have now become a name brand in any home started to sell nail polish, and accessories.

In 1911 Cutex started out making Cuticle softeners. By 1925 Cutex came out with liquid nail polish, becoming the first Beauty Empire.

In 1920 a makeup artist by the name of Michelle Menard, started to create nail polish that could glimmer and shine like a new car. By 1932 she had perfected this formula, making nail polish that had a glossy lacquer, selling this in a good variety of colors. The Flappers and other ladies fell in love with this idea. She opened her own company which is now known as Revlon.

A dentist in 1957 by the name of Frederick Slack discovered by accident on making Acrylic Nails. While in his lab one day he broke a nail, he made a faux nail that looked very real out of

aluminum foil and dental acrylic. He showed it to his brother, they got together and Voila! The Acrylic Nail was born.

In 1976 the most favorite and well-known classic nail style was born. Can you guess what it was? I think you already know. You are right! It is the French Manicure.

Jeff Pink a well-known American Makeup artist and the founder of Orly Makeup set this Manicure in place so that his models would have a nail polish that would go with any outfit. This became such a hit in Paris on the Runway, it became a world phenomenon.

In the early 80's a lady by the name of Essie Weingarten came up with a lot of bold and exciting colors, by 1983 her colors were such a hit, that the famous Joan Rivers endorsed the colors, Joan's favorite color from Essie's collection was Jelly Apple. This helped Essie to become a household name back then.

The movie Pulp Fiction in 1994 with John Travolta and Uma Thurman saw Uma wearing a color by Chanel called Chanel's Rouge Noir also known as Vamp. This rich color that looked like dried blood was such a hit it was hard to keep it on the shelves. It is still one of the most requested colors from Chanel.

My own nails (pictured) are the colors from a company that I am a distributor of, they are a fairly new company only being around for the last six or seven years, and they are a Canadian company called Gel Moment, the nail polish is of excellent quality, and there are so many gorgeous colors, I just love them. You can come and see my nails at the Saturday Market at the Oval.

Interacting Safely With People Inside And Outside Your Bubble

With information directly from BC’s Restart Plan, here is a quick overview of how to interact safely with people inside and outside your bubble now that we’re in Phase 3.

Are

you high-risk?

Please keep in mind that if you are at greater risk (over the age of 60 or with underlying medical conditions), it’s important to think through your risk tolerance and take extra precautions.

Inside Your Bubble

Your bubble includes the people who live with you in your home and can now be carefully expanded to include other people. Here are some guidelines from BC’s Restart Plan:

• Try to limit the number of people in your bubble

• Every time you add someone to your bubble, remember you are also connecting with everybody in their bubble

• Inside your bubble you can hug and kiss and do not need to wear a mask or stay 2 m apart

• Remember, vigilant handwashing and space cleaning is still important

• If you are sick, self-isolate from people in your bubble as much as possible

Outside Your Bubble

You may decide to see people outside your bubble. Here are some guidelines to consider:

• Only get together in small groups of 2 to 6 people

• Keep 2 metres of physical distance from those who are outside your bubble

• Limit your time with people outside your bubble

• Stay home and away from others if you have cold or flu-like symptoms

• Take extra precautions for those at higher risk for serious illness from COVID-19, including older

people and those with chronic health conditions

This is an evolving situation and information is changing all the time, so go to the source for updated information.

Where do we fit in?

Yes, we are a provincial regulator. We are responsible for some very specific transactions in BC. We aren’t experts on COVID-19. We won’t – and shouldn’t – ever give medical or legal advice. But we are in a unique circumstance right now and we want to help people navigate the current reality. We don’t have all the answers, but we will do our best to share information from reliable sources, put it in ways that are easy to digest and understand, provide referrals and help you navigate this situation.

About Consumer Protection BC

We are responsible for regulating specific industries and certain consumer transactions in British Columbia. If your concern is captured under the laws we enforce, we will use the tools at our disposal to assist you. If we can’t help you directly, we will be happy to provide you with as much information as possible. Depending on your concern, another organization may be the ones to speak to; other times, court or legal assistance may be the best option. Explore our website at www.consumerprotectionbc.ca.

Night Sweats, Hot Flashes And Excessive Sweating

Many women in the perimenopause or menopause time of life face hot flashes or night sweats. They're completely natural, the result of declining estrogen levels that accompany these life stages. Nevertheless, they can disrupt sleep and mood and cause fatigue and irritability. Before we touch on some botanicals to manage symptoms, let's clarify what's going on and the difference between night sweats, hot flashes and excessive sweating.

Hot Flashes: an intense heat starts in your chest, rising to your neck and head. You may experience tingling in your fingers, racing heartbeat, or a flushed face. Some "Flash" by quickly, some last 10 minutes or more - the average is 4 minutes.

Night Sweats: intervals of heavy sweating accompanying nighttime hot flashes, sometimes followed by

chills and shivering that leaves you and your sheets drenched.

Excessive Sweating: heavy sweating not associated with a known fever causing illness such as a cold or flu, or the normal hormonal changes of menopause may be due to an underlying medical condition, such as endocarditis, hyperthyroidism, or generalized anxiety disorder. Check with your health care provider for an assessment.

Suggestions from a botanical practitioner's perspective help alleviate the symptoms of hot flashes and night sweats: Among the most commonly used botanical products are phytoestrogen-rich supplements (which may have estrogen-like effects) such as Soy, Red Clover (Promensil), and Hops (caution is advised if you have risk/history of ER-positive cancer). Notes From the Lumby Public Market

What a great turn out we had this past Saturday at the Lumby and District Public Market. It was so good to see everyone again.

Thank you all for coming.

Everything had changed this year, we had plyons and ropes, tables with hand sanitizer, arrows on the ground for entering and exiting, and everyone followed all of these  changes it was great.

We had a lot of new vendors, and of course our regular  vendors.

This week I would like to introduce you to our vendor of the week,

Samantha (Sam) Nason. Sam is our flower lady, she also will sell you herbs, and vegetables all grown in her amazing green house. Always ready with a smile, this beautiful lady can answer most of your questions about flowers, and what's eating them. Sam can tell you how to properly look after the flowers in your gardens, so they won't wilt and die, and what type of fertilizer they need and how often. If Sam doesn't have what you want at her well dis-

played table, just ask her she will probably have it in her greenhouse, or at our local Co-Op.

Sam does not only know flowers, this bright. intelligent  woman is also very quick with a joke, and very friendly. You can stop by her table anytime and have a chat with her.

hosh (Remifemin) has long been used for menopausal symptoms, depression, and its muscle-relaxant properties.

Adaptogens play a significant role in hormonal regulation. My favourites, Ashwagandha and American Gingseng. In recent studies, Schisandra has shown to significantly reduce hot flashes, sweating and heart palpitations in menopausal women (caution: may interfere with drugs metabolized by CYP3A or transported by P-gp).

Sage is another useful herb for its ability to inhibit excessive sweating. Take as a tea alone or combined with Spearmint, Chamomile and Lavender to encourage relaxation. A Sage mist sprayed nearby can help relieve hot flash symptoms.

sen Cannabis or CBD product at the first twinge of discomfort.

What products should you consider? In my practice, I primarily recommend starting with products with the greatest safety and the least likelihood of immediate or longer-term side-effects, including: Cannabis tincture: can be effective for pain relief, is taken in water so doesn’t require smoking anything, doesn’t cause psychoactive effects, and can be combined with other pain relieving, anti-inflammatory herbal tinctures, for example, a Cannabis-Cramp bark combination is a classic for menstrual pain relief. Tincture dose depends on the product you are using; commercially made products contain varying amounts of THC and CBD, so follow product instructions, start low, and go slow.

CBD oil: A good quality CBD oil product is usually made with an olive oil base, has zero to negligible THC so will not have a psychoactive effect, and

Conspiracy Theories,

cept, “confirmation bias”, or the tendency to seek and believe the data that supports our pre-existing views, while discounting the information that doesn´t. Think about it, if you have an opinion and then go to the internet to “learn” more about it, chances are that you will find information that supports your opinion, and dislike whatever it doesn´t. So, if you like the idea of a flat earth, you will focus more on “flatters” theories. The desire to be unique is another factor that plays a role in conspiracy thinking. “They may fool everyone else but they won’t fool me”, kind of thinking. We all have a desire to be authentic, but for some people it seems to be stronger.

Lastly, “peer pressure”. You may laugh at this one, thinking that doesn´t affect you, but the truth is that peer pressure has demonstrated to be even more effective than scientific evidence. If more people believe a piece of information, then we are more likely to accept it as true. This is the most frustrating part, since ratio-

panying symptoms such as sleep problems, mood swings, fatigue and irritability.

Improve sleep, combine equal parts of Chamomile, Lemon Balm, and Lavender bulk herbs. Steep 2 tsp in one cup boiling water covered, for 10 minutes. For insomnia, Valerian has a long history of use. One clinical trial showed much improvement in sleep quality with a Valerian/Lemon Balm combination.

Depression: Used to treat mood disturbances for centuries, St. John's Wort is a star in handling mild to moderate depression. If depression's accompanied by memory loss, SJW may be combined with other herbs such as Bacopa, Motherwort, Eleuthero and Rosemary. Avoid SJW if you are taking medications metabolized by CYP450, immunosuppressant medications, or for bipolar or other mood disorders. If nothing you try brings relief, consider seeing an ND educated in natural, hormonal and pharmaceutical nonhormonal options.

can be conveniently taken by dropper with measurements on it to get accurate dosing, or in a capsule. I recommend my patients take the equivalent of 15 mg/day to start. But again, it’s best to start low, and go slow, to see how you personally respond.

CBD topical and suppository products: online companies, like Foria Wellness, specialize in high quality topicals and suppositories for women’s period and pelvic health.

I don’t recommend smoking unless other options just aren’t working for you. If you do find that this is the only way you get relief, keep it to just those few days of the month that you most need It, using only the smallest amount possible amount (for example, one or two tokes off of a thinly rolled joint). Purchase product from a Cannabis dispensary to ensure that it is a clean, good quality product, and ask for a low THC strain.

Hemp seeds: Another interesting approach for reducing the inflammation associated with causing period pain is the use of hemp seeds. The seeds, which

nal arguments aren´t good enough to alter people´s beliefs, but we are constantly modifying our beliefs just to fit in.

It´s important to recognize that these psychological tendencies affect us all, and that you aren´t mentally “unbalanced” or “delusional” for believing in conspiracy theories. This is a normal phenomenon. But, it is a good idea to be aware of our possible thinking flaws, so we protect ourselves from misinformation and irrationality. The best antidote to this would be to promote critical thinking and increase science education. Also, it is healthy to create the habit of second-guessing yourself and be open to accept new information. Hopefully, with organized thinking we could clarify some of these theories, because nobody needs more confusion in their life.

With the fast and varying information bombarding us during this time of crisis, it can be difficult to piece together what is real and what isn’t. It’s no wonder that some may be experiencing confusion, anxiety, increased stress - just to name a few. If you, a loved

do not contain cannabinoids, are rich in gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), in which women with PMS and dysmenorrhea have found to be low. In one study, a daily dose of 150 to 200 mg over 12 weeks greatly improved symptoms; this dose could be provided by a 5-mL daily dose of hemp seed oil.

Not a Panacea, But Worth Considering Cannabis is not a panacea for all that ails us, as the Cannabis industry might have us believe. And it’s not a panacea for menstrual pain. Much more research is certainly warranted. It’s always important to look at all of your root causes, and treat those. But used safely and wisely, I do think Cannabis and CBD products may help many women with period pain to have a better experience of their menstrual cycles, and with fewer adverse effects than conventional medications. While it has not been associated with teratogenic effects, Cannabis use is generally not recommended for use in pregnancy, so unless for a medically supervised reason, discontinue use should you become pregnant.”

WANTED - CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP

I live in the trailer park 4 miles out Mabel Lake Rd. I’ve been a Christian over 45 years. I’ve attended many different churches and denominations but found that home fellowships are the most uplifting. Romans 16:3 - 5 says, “Greet Priscilla & Aquila and greet the church that is in their house.”

The church is where two or three are gathered together in the name of Jesus. He says, “there am I in their midst”. This is an invitation to anyone who would like to fellowship with me at my place. Contact me, Ed Watson, at 250-547-1484

If you’ve recently decided to sell your home, here are three things you should do before putting it on the market.

1. Clean up

Start by removing clutter from your home. Give away things you don’t need and find out if there are recycling companies nearby that can take bulky items.

Then, clean the house from top to bottom. Areas to pay special attention to include the kitchen, bathrooms and places that tend

to show dirt, such as the windows and both very light and dark surfaces.

Finally, organize your closets and cabinets, as potential buyers will want to know how much storage space is available.

2. Make repairs

Taking care of small, inexpensive repairs will help you make the right impression. This includes replacing burnt out light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets and repainting dingy or outdated rooms

neutral colours. Refreshing your windows is also a good idea, particularly replacing cracked glass, reapplying grout and caulking, and mending damaged screens. Making these repairs will help you emphasize your home’s best features.

3. Increase curb appeal

Freshen up your landscaping by trimming bushes, repairing cracks in concrete features and spreading new mulch or gravel. Repaint as needed, fix broken gutters and

remove stains from the driveway. However, you should avoid installing elaborate new features. Prospective buyers want to see the potential of the property, and injecting too much of your own taste could make the house less inviting.

Keep in mind that virtual visits are increasingly

popular, so you’ll want to make sure your home looks as great on video as it does in real life.
