Roof Design Options.

The Ultimate Roof provides standard solid roof solutions are existing conservatory roof designs, new build conservatories and orangeries. Bespoke solutions are also available.

Lean-To The Ultimate Roof Lean-To is ideal to maximise space at the back of the house. The ends can either have one or two hips (slopes). It is ideal for kitchen extensions and can go as low as 15 Degrees with roof windows.

Victorian The Victorian roof can also work really well when you might not have as much space in the garden as you would like. The internal plaster finish on the roof can look extremely attractive with its facet front finish.

Edwardian The Classic Sunroom shape. Together with attractive roof windows the Edwardian Ultimate Roof is the traditional safe bet for styling and convenience. The Edwardian shape also helps to maximise the room space below.

What You Need to Know.

The Ultimate Roofing Collection has been designed to provide a range of high performance thermal and structural solution with zero condensation risk over the life of the roof. Each of these elements has been fully tested and approved by independent industry experts to evaluate thermal performance, structural performance, condensation risk and quantify energy savings. The Ultimate Roof best practice approach has enabled the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) to certify the “Supalite Roof System” as a LABC Registered System.

The Supalite Roof Conversion System is fully compliant for use in a conventional situation such as an extension and has been fully approved by LABC for use as a full replacement conservatory roof.

There should be no short cuts in making sure your roof has the right credentials, which include test data and warranty, and carries LABC certification to validate it. If you do not choose the correct solution, apart from being potentially structurally unsafe, you may find that you have problems when you come to sell your home and your selling agent is required to generate your home Energy Performance Certificate which is a mandatory document for the sale and resale of homes in the UK since 1st August 2007.

We are also JHAI members - JHAI Ltd is a Corporate Approved Inspector licensed by the Construction Industry Council to give certified Building Regulations Approval as an alternative to Local Authority Building Control whilst maintaining the same high standards.

Typical Stages of Our Ultimate Roof Construction.

This page shows how a typical installation is carried out. The conservatory used in the example is a P-Shape with a polycarbonate roof.

Stage One This will be the day the fitting team come to your home. Depending on the location this could be between the hours of 9am to 4.30pm on the day. The roof will be completely removed, exposing the interior to the elements so we cover the floor area and window sills with waterproof sheeting.

Stage Two The aluminium frame structure for the new roof can now be installed. Once the frame work is complete, plywood sheets are attached to the frame. Once the plywood has been fitted, it is then covered with layers of permeable membrane for water-proofing.

Stage Three The external part of the roof should be ready to begin tiling. Fitting teams split into two; with one working on the tiling and the other fitting the insulation on the underside of the roof. Lead flashing is applied to any section of the roof which meets the house to ensure waterproofing.

Stage Five The final stage of the insulation work is to fit the 72mm insulated backed plasterboard to create the ceiling. This gives the internal roof a prepared surface ready for the plasterer to skim and fully finish it off (the plasterer is usually the final stage of the build which is generally completed after the installation team have left).

Now the transformation is complete. In a short space of time, with minimum fuss, we have transformed the conservatory from a tired looking, unusable room to an attractive looking addition to the home that can be fully enjoyed 365 days a year! This effectively gives you an extension to your home at the fraction of the cost of having one built.

Stage Four The insulation aspect of stage three can often run into stage four. After 100mm of insulation has been installed, timber battens are fitted to the underside of the rafters. The entire roof structure is then battened out. Foil tape is run over every batten and the window line.

The problem is that when you install a solid roof onto your conservatory, the snow will not melt as quickly as it would on a Polycarbonate or Glass roof. It will only melt with a change in ambient temperature or with direct sunlight. Therefore it is vital that your roof is designed and tested so that it can withstand extreme loadings. The practise of cladding lightweight aluminium conservatory roof systems is a dangerous practise and it is sited in the LABC guide to replacing your roof as a “potential danger”. If your lightweight conservatory roof is over stressed with additional weight of tiles and plasterboards it will want to invert and collapse.

The section extracted from the LABC Guidance reads: ‘‘There are several methods of re-roofing an existing structure on the market - the easiest and often cheapest way is simply to wrap a new roof over and under the existing roofing system.

However, this method is the most likely to overstress the existing roof and wall structure and great care is needed. If the roof is an existing polycarbonate, there is also potential to introduce a condensation problem that will inevitably occur if plasterboard is applied to the underside of the existing roof with little or no insulation above it.

When you take the decisions to purchase one of our Ultimate roofs and of course sign your sales contract and made your deposit payment, then the next step will be that our customer services team will contact you and agree with you your survey date.

Our surveyor will arrive at your home to the agreed date and time period and will spend up to ninety minutes with you talking through the contract – answering any questions you may have in relation to the project – completing our dynamic risk assessment - finalising all measurements to allow production of your roof and or associated products to take place.

The journey continues as your customer file and contract arrive into our CAD office from which the manufacturing data is produced and your roof placed into a production schedule. It is at this point that our customer services team will re-contact you to book your installation into the installation schedule and finalise.

You can of course mix and match your payments and consider using finance as a means to complete your project perhaps by changing your windows and doors or alternatively extending your existing structure or a knock through from one room to the other. The choice is yours.

On the given day our installation team will arrive on site normally between the hours of 9.00am through to mid-day to commence your project. Care is taken in terms of the site preparation and depending on the size and style of the works agreed to this could take up to one day.

During day one the senior installer will walk around the site with you and work with you to ensure site safety at all times. They also ensure that they clean as they go with all rubbish being removed from site daily. The journey continues as your old roof is dismantled and taken away and your new roof is installed – generally this is a four to five day programme of works through to completion.

Once installed then the installers will do a walk around with you and sign off with you the finished installation – during this period our customer services team will again have contacted you and agree a date for our plasterer to complete the works.

Any outstanding items from your agreed contract will be dealt with during this period, through to final completion.
