Project Heartwood Location: 100 Buttonwood Avenue, York, ON Type: Final Year Thesis Project Description This final year project is the accumulation of a year’s worth of work on the concept, ideation, developmental planning and 3D renderings of the interior/exterior spaces that makeup Project Heartwood.

Ideation Project Heartwood is an assisted-living complex that comprises of two buildings and a large community garden that all relate to my concept of integrating biophilic design into the medical field.

The concept of being surrounded by nature while having access to all necessities was fundamental to the design process and the structures attempt to utilize the healing power of nature in the recovery process of patients.

The planning of the space features one building for the main residents of the space, consisting of three floors and a secondary public building consisting of clinic, library and cafe spaces.

Elevations and Sections The elevations and sections show the sustainable material choice by using mainly recyclable, local materials.

Exterior Renderings The exterior renderings highlight the aluminum panelling that surrounds each window, which is used to mimic the effect of dappled lighting on the suites of the residence building. (i.e Exterior 3)

Jones House Location: Bulwer St, Toronto, ON Type: Third-year Final Project Description The project revolved around a home currently existing in downtown Toronto. We were tasked with the assignment of doing renovations, using this building’s dimensions and plans, for a client who suffers from PTSD. We were also tasked with other requirements from the client that must be incorporated into the design.

Schematic Plans These plans incorporated all requirements of the fictional client which include: -Warm colours to assist with PTSD episodes -Ample gym space and indoor gardens -Sauna for relaxation -Large floor to ceiling windows/Open to below space that allows for daylight to enter the building

Spadina Hotel Location: King And Spadina, Toronto, ON Type: Third-Year Final Project Description This third-year last semester project tasked us with the renovation of a historical hotel located at King and Spadina. With the building being a historical site we were not allowed to change much of the exterior of the building but had permission to change the number of floors and focus more on interior design. With that being said, the assignment wanted students to focus on main spaces like the lobby, restaurant, hotel suites and, so on.
