From Forest to Building Student Design Competition

This project focused on the application of solid wood mass-based approaches to architecture and also the role of the forest and material extraction process of wood fiber for building products. The primary construction material of the project is timber. The buildings not have a weaving interconnection between each other, the ambiguous boundar ies of the buildings helped connect the forest with itself.

Forest to For Rest

The main environmental strategy of the project is to maximize solar energy use by using solar tiles as the main energy source and also utilizing ventilation as the main cooling mechanism.

The multi-housing family unit is inspired by traditional East Asian Architecture. The main reason to look towards East Asian architecture is that many of their traditional buildings are built out of wood and are still standing after hundreds of years. There are three main types of units, ranging from small-er family one-story units to larger two and three-story units. The building is formed by a 3 by 3 grid system with the center block being the atrium space: providing light, ventilation, and circulation. The rest of the spaces such as the living room, kitchen, bedroom, utility room, etc, are wrapped around the central atrium.

GoodallBirdsongWooten

This project focused on the environment of the landscape. The project is located in West Campu and a transect is assigned to be studied and examed to determin what is needed the most to improve the land scape of West Campus while also providing married student housing. The Goodall Wooten is developed by adding and removing to create only necessary elements to improve the state of the already existing building, which is the Goodall Wooten Domatory. This specific proj ect seeks to preserve the historical anchors discovered within the tran sect and only adding to bring the project to its ideal state.

Viticulture & Land Stewardship CenterBlood

This project focused on designing a Viticulture and Land Stewardship Center in the Hill Country in central Texas. The intent of the project is to develop a Center that considers its structural efficiency, systems functionality, and building performance. The outcome of this project provided opportunities for an understanding of historical, social, eco nomic, and physical circumstances and employ all applications of the architectural studies throughout the semesters.
