Gabrielle Brainard The project is a futher develpoment of an intital desgin chosen in a previsous studio called Integrated Design Schematic Studio.

The project was driven with a desire of providing a space that the local community can call there own without feeling the fear of begin push out from genrefication.

The project push all programs above the ground floor plan to provided an open ground plan that is open to the public 24/7. This move gives the community a place with the building where they can call there own and gives a sign of embracing the local community.

The facade plays the same role as the sense of being seen as open and transparent even thought the program can be considered a high class of a program where few can experiences it . As well as giving a tip of the hat to the local materials and uses of the area.

Further advancing on this concept of transparency the project takes the approach of breaking the traditional way a theater is seen by changing the way the front of house and back of house are being separated with a design that seemly mixes together where the visitor and staff resign in the same space even thought they might not seen one other directly.

There have been rapid changes in technology production and electronics becoming abundance in developed nations, as well as the consumerism mindset becoming embedded in people minds such that high-tech electronics have become routinely obsolete within six months. The result of this mindset has been the increase in e-waste popping up around the world over the past decade. Currently there have been worldwide legalization laws that have tried to slow down the shipment of e-waste around the world, including China’s imports bans, which have caused the rise of illegal shipments to developing nations such as Indonesia, Vietnam and many more in the Southeast Asia region. The results of these influx of e-waste to these developing nations have caused these nations to take unreasonable methods to manage and mine these e-waste landfills, where the local living and working conditions worsen by each pasting day.

In response, “The Augmented Extraction of Urban E-waste” draws on e-waste landfills’ unseen resources and begins to frame an urbanized infrastructure for an augmented technological machinery to come in to revitalize the effected nations.

The urban structure, CTRL-XV, a

nomadic e-waste platform aims to create a series of exploration to begin to understand how we can establish a balance in the dialogue between human space and the non-human space with the use of the augmented realm as a negotiator between the two.

Where it would begin to create an framework where the inhabit and the machine can begin to interact with one other and augment the perception between the each other.

AIRSCAPE RESHAPING THE URBAN DENSITY Vertical Studio

2017 - Fall Location: Manhattan, NY Partner: Tania Lopes Critics: Lydia Kallipoliti

Pollution today is becoming a leading factor in today’s world of designers and architects.

Where now designs are being push towards remediation techniques to improve the world environment. The project present here establishes a desire to improve air quality of urban cities as it takes the existing system and infrastructure that cities currently use on a daily bases and are the leading causes of air pollution.

For example exhaust pipe, subway grates, amount of cars traveling in and out of the city emitting co2 gas and with the urban canyon effects pollution becomes trap in the street of the city causing unsafe conditions. So how can we eliminate this problem? The project takes concept such as air pollution, urban density and infrastructure and connects them though one system . In doing so the project begins to extend the buildings boundaries and challenges the way we look at public space, density of the city and pollution in a system that is dynamic. As time continues on the project itself will begin to take over increasing density and vertical circulation with the city and change how some social infrastructure are place today such as the real estate.

The project tackles multiple scales with in the city infrastructure from the larger scale the building to the smallest the exhaust outlets of the building itself. The images on the right show the starting point of the project extending the building infrastructure and connecting the old system with this new one.

Although the project the has this focus of air pollution and redistribute it away from the street level it also a means of creating public space and elevate the street level to new heights. This moves causing the circulation to become vertical and bring new view of what the city is. The Inflatables bubbles has two function to them, the are a means to create space and new urban public space by the amount of inflation. But they are also the representation of how much pollution the city is creating by the amount of the inflation the bubbles have. This creates a visual and materialize air and pollution for the public to become aware of what is air pollution.

How can a performing art center help resurrect a dying area such as Coney island? How can it help the local community and not be a sign of gentrification? These where some question that first came across my mind when dealing with this design task. Traditional theater can be considered as a program who generally is for the a higher class of society. Well begin in area where it generally of lower class people I want the project to adapt for those people and still consider the tourism of the amusement park of Coney Island . The project takes the approach of breaking the traditional way a theater is circulated where the front of house and back of house are not separated by the stage but is seemly mixing together where the visitor and staff resign in the same space. As well as having the program become a way for the local community to express themselves and be apart of the show going on with out having to be within the theater to do so.

The art of render is a method of representing architecture that I have obtaining a great interest in.

Throughout my years at school I have seen the powerful and beauty of a great render in both a means of showing someone how it can exist in the real world and in explaining your ideas to your audiences and clients in a strong visual way. I find renders and creating a strong visual images as way of expressing yourself. You do this by indicated your perspective towards the world and what you find appealing and how you view the world by the amount of detail you put in a render and the certain view and perspective the image is and that what excites me about it . The amount of layer the images is showing and hidden clues that you leave for the viewer to find.
