EL EJIDO, ALMERÍA, SPAIN_

Southeastern Spain is facing the northward expansion of the Sahara Desert, leading to reduced rainfall, soil degradation, and climate change-driven droughts. These changes are threatening agricultural lands that have been farmed for centuries, endangering the region’s food production and economy. Urgent action is needed to address this growing desertification and protect the livelihoods dependent on the land.

The project aims to create a self-sustaining oasis in Almeria using nature and slope-aligned channels to capture, slow, and filter water for soil and aquifer recharge. Restoring aquifers is crucial for biodiversity, ecosystem stability, and water sustainability.

The colony prioritizes food autonomy through innovative, sustainable methods. Agroforestry will enhance productivity, protect against weather, diversify income, and provide fuel. Terraced fields and a water recycling system will improve water management, while solar-powered greenhouses will support sustainable agriculture and reduce carbon emissions.

COMMUNITY VILLAGE

Colony homes are flexible and built for seasonal workers and tough weather. Wooden structures with courtyards allow easy changes, rooftops collect water, and wind catchers cool interiors. Local associations manage state-owned land, focusing on sustainable, small-scale food production with minimal waste. A dome supports tilapia farming in controlled conditions.

RESEARCH CENTER

The research area at the crater’s core collects water before it reaches the aquifers and tests global production techniques. Structures like domes, ponds, floating fields, and greenhouses create varied climates. A geodesic dome regulates temperature, nets balance climate with plants and vaporizers, and floating fields use aquaponics and water-cleansing plants. Ponds aid research, and greenhouses advance global cultivation methods.

MADRID, SPAIN_ The Hemeroscopium House by ENSAMBLE ESTUDIO emphasizes horizontality and blends with the landscape. Its open, social gound level contrasts with an upper level for bedrooms, balancing architecture and engineering. Heavy and carefully balanced structures frame the different inner and exterior spaces.

What results when we deconstruct the Hemeroscopium House into its components, analyze their potential, and reconfigure them to create new architectural objects or sculptures?

INTRODUCTION

TRANSFORMATION 1: EQUILIBRIUM

ROCK OF AGES, VERMONT, USA_ Equilibrium

House challenges gravity and integrates with its surroundings, featuring white stone walls and turquoise water. It transforms the site from isolation to livability, with floating beams anchored to the stone ground. Fluid transitions between levels enhance connectivity with the water, fostering harmony between the architecture and the landscape.

INTRODUCTION

TRANSFORMATION 2: TENSEGRIUM

VIK, ICELAND_ Tensegrium is a habitable sculpture that merges tensegrity and equilibrium, its design features balanced asymmetry and dynamic tension, emphasizing verticality and a sense of detachment from the earth— whether from water, basalt, or manmade structures. The asymmetric composition consists of isolated, symmetrical parts held together by tension, reflecting natural forms where the whole is asymmetrical. Tensegrium rises from the ocean, resembling the rocks near Iceland’s black sand beaches.

CUERNAVACA, MEXICO_

The project aims to create a spiritual space in Cuernavaca, Mexico, where people of any faith can conduct ceremonies, individually or collectively, in harmony with nature. Utilizing the area’s vegetation and climate, the space fosters reflection, meditation, and connection with the divine. Structured as a journey through life’s stages, the design encourages an appreciation of life and transcendent experiences. It also highlights the universal sacredness found in nature, regardless of religion. While the space is public and open to the city, it also offers privacy for introspection and personal reflection.

SITE LOCATION

City Market is an attractor
Terrain slope go down 1m
Busiest Area
Large unused green space, it is private property
Most religions locate their temples to the east
Hydrant
Large unused green space, it is private property

SYMMETRY

The land is almost entirely occupied, with vegetation providing isolation from alternate streets.

ASYMMETRY

ACCESIBILITY

Space designed for introspection, it works as a metaphor for birth and childhood.

An excavation within the land ensures isolation and fosters a peaceful environment, with the excavated earth used to construct walls and partition slabs.

The monolith works as a symbol of trascendence and a connector to heaven.

A space for fullness and where light is used to create an atmosphere of peace and reflection.

Connected by water, it is here where the funerary niches are located.

Space designed as a metaphor of adulthood, it is planned for collective ceremonies.

The axes are defined to organize the complex, considering the intended route and experience.

Green outdoor yard designed to be explored and lived collectively.

1. EXISTENCE ROOM
2. IDENTITY YARD
3. LIBERATION SPACE 4. MAUSOLEUM
5. CHAPEL
6. MONOLITH YARD

The project represents life’s journey through spaces symbolizing birth, identity, adulthood, mortality, and transcendence. Each area fosters introspection, connection, and personal growth.

PUEBLA, MEXICO_ The project involves designing a mixed-use building in the City of Puebla on an urban void, integrating diverse components to enhance the space and user experience. The program includes a fire station, commercial stores, gym, geek culture center, digital room, and coffee shop, all complemented by outdoor terraces. Initial analysis considered factors like sunlight, wind, pedestrian flow, and accessibility. Various models were developed to explore the building’s form, context, and internal layout, emphasizing dynamic routes and accessibility through voids, double heights, and ramps, shaping how the space is perceived and experienced.

FOURTH FLOOR

Outdoor Terrace

A large outdoor space that can be adapted to different uses, such as concerts, conferences and outdoor activities, you can access by elevator or stairs.

THIRD FLOOR

Gym + Screening Room + Coffee Shop

It can be accessed by elevator, stairs and ramp, here is the screening room, a cube that is levitating in the air.

SECOND FLOOR

Terrace + Game Room + Recreational Space

The large ramp leads to the terrace, which has direct access to the second and third floors. On the second floor there are two double heights that allow connecting with the spaces below.

FIRST FLOOR

Courtyards + Shops + Fire Station+ Lobby

The first floor creates a large plaza in the center of the building, close to the large ramp there are various shops.
