Leaders In Training Program: Offers New Brunswick youth that are 14 to 18 years old with an opportunity to explore their interests and career pathways, develop workplace skills and engage in hands on learning community experiences that help to develop their social, civic, and leadership skills. Topics covered in the program include Career Exploration, Community Building and Engagement, Wellness and Social Awareness, Leadership Skills, Entrepreneurship, and Community Projects.

YAP's mission is to provide individuals who are, have been or may be subject to compulsory care with the opportunity to develop, contribute and be valued as assets so that communities have safe, proven effective and economical alternatives to institutional placement. For the 2022 L.I.T. Summer Program, YAP is proud to work with prominent community partners in our goal to build upon our commitment to provide program participants with an enriching and constructive summer work experiences. These community partners include RWJBarnabas Health, Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, New Brunswick Development Corporation, JINGOLI, RWJUH Community Health Promotions Program, DCO Energy, and The Community Builders.

Neighborhood clean up: participants joined 15 youth from the City of New Brunswick Summer Litter Patrol to conduct a neighborhood clean up. Youth covered a total of 25 blocks that resulted in the collection of 275 pounds of trash and 135 pounds of recycling material.

WORKSHOP: The workshop was facilitated by Leticia Vizcaino Blanco from RWJUH Community Health and Marvi Rizza Cruz & Dominique Quartararo from EMPOWER Somerset. The 16 session curriculum focused on teaching students about abstinence, protection against STIs/HIV and pregnancy prevention. Students learned various refusal and delay tactics to use when they are in high risk situations. There was emphasis on how to obtain and use protection appropriately, which consisted of a condom demonstration and a presentation from the local RWJUH Family Planning Clinic.
