Lost and Found Spring 2023
This project explores the idea of layers and lamination. Plywood hides in plain sight, often lost under the finished layers of many projects. Plywood is a common material, it represents the ordinary items we can find so close to us, and don’t want to lose. This project brings the lost to the forefront with plywood as the finish, and the structure in the form of Mass Plywood Panels. The building design is inspired from the layers of plywood, the building being sequentially layered plywood boxes that are laminated together

CONCEPT AND EXECUTION
Parti and Plan
Plywood is a layered material, and mass plywood panels are layered in a specific manner so that they work efficiently and effectively. Which is the same programmatic approach i have in my design. The programs are layered in a specific order so that they function efficiently and effectively as a lost and found.

SCALE OF MATERIAL Axonemetric and Partial perspective section
The building design is a material study of plywood, so I implement the material at all scales of design. Plywood being used in the design of the shelves that store the lost items and mass plywood panels used as the primary wall and floor structure of the building. Finally mass ply lams are used as the beam structure to support the roof assembly.
LAYERS OF WARMTH
Interior renders
The natural qualities of plywood make it a visually exceptional and structural material to leave exposed. Creating a soft and warm environment, perfect for those waiting to be reconnected with what they lost or for a calm work environment.

LAMINATED DESIGN Perspective Section
The final building design is an effective material study of plywood. Using the material, in it’s various applications, to design the building’s various spaces and structure. The layered quality of plywood is used as an organizational system to create an ordered and efficient program. Layers of design that reconnects people with their most valuable attachments.

MANUAL THEATER FALL 2022
Manual Theater is a performance center for Manual Cinema, along with Chicago’s other performance groups. The louvered ribbon of circulation connects all the buildings programs at the various levels of the site, as well as creating a performance of light that dances through the building. The building uses a variety of materials that represent the programs and various types of groups that will create and perform at Manual Theater.

Supporting Spaces Axonometric Plans
Through the objective of having a sustainable building design, we looked at incorporating louvers as our shading system with the intent to reflect performance. Throughout the day the light that shines between the louvers, dances along the atrium, The building’s main program is a theater that is nested into the northeast corner of the site, and is surrounded by support programs that creates a ribbon that connects the building to two the levels of the site.

The Cafe is located in the ribbon of circulation that connects all programs, acting as a space for social gathering during the day and can be modified into a lobby for showings in the evenings. Exemplifying the clt structure, the light that shines through the louvers, and the circulation stairs and walkway that allow people to fully inhabit the space.

Work Space Interior Drawing
The clt structure is utilized to create a minimal and open space allowing for any program to grow and inhabit the space.

Connection Perspective Section
The building’s program is about connecting the primary program to various support programs. Utilizing this connection to also connect the building to the two levels of the site.

CORTEX SPRING 2022
Cortex is an evolving art community building with a computative aesthetic to help prosper community growth and connection. A structural exoskeleton, supports the building’s various network programs, elevating them and making community the building’s identity
Prof Michal Ojrzanowski Partner Rayyan Kiwan

Programmatic Structure Exterior Perspective
The program consists of an archive that is located above an existing warehouse which has been renovated to inlcude workspaces, an art gallery and community spaces. The majority of the building programs, which include an additional art gallery, a forum seating area and an event space, are attached throughout the facade using a structural exoskeleton. Creating a program arrangement that promotes community engagement and invigorates the surrounding area.
Organization Axonometric Plans
The first floor consists of a re-adapted warehouse, filled with public programs to create a community base that will spread to the rest of the programs located throughout the facade.
Facade Elevation
The facade consists of two materials, polycarbonate and glass. Polycarbonate is used as a facade material for the gallery that wraps around the archive, meant to protect the work from direct sunlight while providing a light exterior glow. Glass is used around the programs that wrap around the archive to create an active and dynamic facade.

Structure Exoskeleton Details
Wrapped Archive Perspective Section
The structural exoskeleton is created using wide flange beams wrapped in steel that are attached at various points to the main building structure. The Archive is located centrally in section with every other program wrapped around it. The structural exoskeleton supporting all the additional programs which include community spaces, libraries, forum seating, and an event space at the very top. Creating a lively facade that invigorates the surrounding community.

PROFESSIONAL WORK
ARCHITECTURAL ASSOCIATE AT RANGE DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE
Selected work in which I aided in the design of various projects including residential and small commercial. Under the lead of the firm partners, I would partake in all aspects of the design process and give my creative input in the project’s design decisions.

Fresh Cut HQ In Progress Study Model and Axonometric
In this project I aided in the development and visualization for a brick screen facade for the new office space of Fresh Cut Furniture. Using a study model, we visualized the final pattern that will be used on the facade. The study model was also used to communicate the brick laying process to the masonry team.
Porch Addition
In Progress
Plan and Interior Views
This renovation aimed to expand the existing dining area to include a buffet with storage and add a new exit/porch to the backyard. The windows are framed in white oak that act as the buffet, and allow for an abundance of light to enter the dining room. The overall space uses simple forms to create a warm environment and vibrant dining experience.

Mass Timber Tower Conceptual Exterior Views
In this project I explore multiple structural and shading options for a mixed commercial/ residential project in Bondi Beach, Australia. The exploration studied structural components like the use of rounded columns, and bearing walls to frame the building, and exterior shading systems such as a perforated cladding system and an exterior shading system.
