Located in Manhattan, facing the East River, this project is advantaged in the natural scenery within visual range, which offer and a series of urban elements, instead of an expansion of the Rockefeller University, it gradually becomes an intersection wh The project consists of three blocks, whose privacy increases as elevation increases, differentiating public, semi-private and and the edge of the East River waterfront enables the project to provide multiple choices whether people wish to live som Digging inside the building blocks makes internal communication possible among different levels of privacy.

STUDY OF WALLS The project begins with study of boundaries. As structures like walls and columns and create physical boundaries, there are abstract elements can create psychological boundaries that can have similar impact on people. Light and shadow are such elements.

A series of iteration models were made by searching how light and shadow can create different shapes of psychological boundaries, hence welcoming or prohibiting people from getting inside.

Materiality is a key feature of such a study: open space and transparent walls are able to let light get through without any reduction; semitransparent walls or windows have some ability to let light pass; and solid walls can block light entirely hence creating shadow, however, if its texture has high reflexivity, light will reflect towards its surface and double the existed enclosed space.

Structure is another feature that determines boundaries created. Walls and floors can block light entirely in some certain angels. The less surface area a structure contains the less effect it will have. However, sometimes digging some holes can be benefitial to a great atmosphere.

TWISTING AND OVERLAPPING The geometry of each building block twists aligning both the grid formed by New York City and the waterfront edge to encourage faculty and students of the Rockefeller University to engage in the public urban life and gain a release from campus.

Overlapping three mass blocking makes classification of privacy level possible. The lower one serves Rockefeller University as well as the public, and, except temporary housing units, its service time is limited from 8 am to 8 pm. The middle one is a filter between public and private. The upper one only provides residential units for long-term residents.

Digging inside building blocks is a great way to create internal connection of the three massing blocks which indicates spaces of varied levels of privacy.

As different activites are held in lower levels in this building, residents on upper levels can also get themselves engaged in the vibe without being disturbed by strangers passing by their front doors. And of course, if they feel interested they can definitely go downstairs and take part in!

Doing so also enables light to reach every corner in this big residential block, making natural light permeable everywhere.

Nowadays, the concept of quality-oriented education has been imposed on both teen students and high schools, proposing teen students should master specialities in order to stand out in the future society and it is schools' responsibility to offer such education. However, being used to exam-oriented education, schools even wish to shift educational concept but do not know how. And most of their effort just like putting lipstick on a pig. Under such circumstances, parents compel students to concentrate on speciality learning afterschool, which takes up all their spare time.

We need to find something new to convert the current situation.

Teaism has been prevailing in China for centuries, and even modernization cannot shake its position. So I believe Teaism can be the solution for this challenge, making school education more diverse and rebuilding faith between teens and adults, teachers and parents.

The Only Passage of Campus

Teaism, consisting of tea tree planting, tea manufacturing, tea brewing and tea tasting, can offer practical biography and agriculture courses, and teahouse can be a good place for social intercourse.

Despite so many benefits, teaism find no place to insert as the whole campus is too crowded. Hence, the only way is to ignite a fuse and let TEAISM explode in campus.

GREENHOUSE OF REVIVAL Planting tea trees in campus seems impossible, but greenhouse is a plausible solution.

Locating downstairs of administration building, the greenhouse is only only a place for biographical practice lessons, but also a place for higher efficiency communication. It revives the quality-oriented education and teenadult communication. Inside the greenhouse, there are tea trees students and teachers plant together. Above the roof, people can talk about their secrets.

TEAHOUSE OF NEGOTIATION Tea house is a place for tea tasting as well as social intercourse, for rest and communication.

Nowadays, parents care much about children's pre-school education. The tea house, locating near kindergarten of the campus, offers space for parents interacting with the other parents and children. Also, the sloping roof of the teahouse offers children a fun place to play.

The Teaism Tunnel, Greenhouse and the Kindergarten Teahouse.

The teaism tunnel is seperated into three parts: one for teaism gallery, another two for campus' internal traffic. The to-School Tunnel offers the main entrance of the campus as well as a public bar for quick tea, where sometimes hold public exhibition. Besides the entrance, there is the sloping roof of the Teaism Tunnel. Walking over the roof, people can have a great view of the whole campus, especially the kindergarten, and there are the accesses to the school library and administrative building.

The current situation of Indian education has aroused the world's attention that there are many elites while penetration of education is very low.

However, there are many people trying to challenge this circumstance.

School in the Cloud is a project raised by Sugata Mitra to help children in distant areas have a better study environment.

Following this concept, we decided to re-build an already existing school in the cloud to expand its use. As literacy of adults will influence offsprings, educating adults is also necessary. So we deciede to help not only children but also adults to gain necessary knowledge via the cloud and study through interaction.

The aim of School in the Cloud is to spark creativity, curiosity and wonder in students and inspire them to take control of their own learning. We call spaces that make this happen Self Organized Learning Environments (SOLEs).

SOLEs can be created by anyone, anywhere, be it educators, parents or communities. It’s simply somewhere students are encouraged to work together to answer Big Questions using the Internet. These places are fuelled by self-discovery, sharing and spontaneity.
