‘a meticulously plotted, steadily absorbing drama’ Variety ‘a professional old-school espionage outing, intricate as clockwork and acted with relish by the ever-watchable Hoffman’ The Guardian Adapted from John le Carré’s book, this contemporary spy thriller stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as a cynical German intelligence officer on the trail of a suspected Chechen terrorist who has inherited a vast (if dodgy) fortune. Both German and US security agencies take a close interest – but is he a dangerous extremist, or an oppressed victim? With Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright, Willem Dafoe and Daniel Brühl.

Even if you’ve never heard of Nick Cave, this beautifully-made film is intriguing as it delves into the personal and professional life of the iconic rock star, weaving together the events of a fictional day with an intimate portrayal of his creative process. Talking heads are avoided in favour of conversations (conducted with rare wit and candour) between Cave and various people such as his psychiatrist, band-members, family and assorted celebs including fellow antipodean Kylie Minogue.

The extraordinary true story of how, back in 1984, a group of lesbian and gay activists decided to raise funds to support the families of striking miners. Bypassing the homophobic Union, they choose a mine in deepest Wales, and descend on the village en masse. What follows is a joyful – and sometimes bitter-sweet - comedy as the two disparate groups confront their prejudices, and gradually work towards genuine camaraderie. The stellar cast includes Bill Nighy, Dominic West, Imelda Staunton, Paddy Considine and Andrew Scott (Moriarty in Sherlock).
