SOIL BORN FARMS 1
CONCEPT>> The idea stems from having a building that connects to its surrounding landscape. This interpretative center seeks to educate visitors on sustainable farming practices while serving as a getaway from the city.

This is an interpretative center proposal for a farm located in Rancho Cordova. Materialy, form, and function are all captured in this building. Choices of sustainable materials, natural lighting, and practical forms allow visitors to get greater insight into the farming lifestyle.
The farm sits on 55 acres of expansive grassland, which is also adjacent to the American River. The farm feels secluded from the surrounding suburbia and serves as an escape from city life.
The intent was to strive for a form that seamlessly integrated inner and outer spaces, a form that keeps visitors closely connected to nature. The large curtain walls give the facade transparency, and visitors do not feel congested inside the building.
The primary tower features vegetation intended to provide shade and balconies for viewers to experience extraordinary views. Outdoor farmstands supply freshly picked produce that further connect visitors to the land.
TINY HOME 2

CONCEPT>> This tiny home design intends to comfort farm employees on the Soil Born site. A minimalistic and inviting facade provides farmers with a space to unwind after a long day’s work.
Organization of space was a crucial component of the design of the tiny home. The spaces needed provide efficiency and flow with one another. The program required a kitchenette, bathroom, refrigerator, and location for storage.
The farmers need practicality and somewhere to carry out their daily routines; in other words, a place to feel at home while they achieve their apprenticeships on the farm.
The site consists of a wooden fence providing privacy, a few wooden decks serving as platforms for farmers to set up tents, and a few oak trees providing natural cover. However, the site feels rather bare and vacant. Integrating these tiny homes would house a sense of community and togetherness among the farmers.
DESIGN VILLAGE 3

CONCEPT>> The objective of the competition was to design a sustainable form that represented the theme of “eternity.” The design needed to be habitable, as well as portable, while meeting all other design constraints.
The task of my group mates, Jaden, Jacob, Michael, and myself was to brainstorm as many design iterations that met the theme of the word “eternal”. The design chosen resembled an infinity sign, a universal symbol that embodies eternity.
We intended to build these pods that each resembled a loop, and when placed adjacent to one another, an infinity symbol could identified.
Another aspect of our design was to refer to the site itself. Upon further research, we discovered the surrounding land masses a.k.a. “morros” were prominent to the site’s history, and their timeless and perpetual features would integrate into the design.
The next challenge was addressing the other design constraints like portability, comfort, sustainabilty, and transportabilty. Making the form as minimalistic as possible was something the team wanted to address as well.
Developing the 3d model into an actual structure was the most rewarding part of the process. Seeing something that our team developed come to fruition was spectacluar. It’s also interesting to note how transitioning from the digital process, to reality also impacts your design.
Upon arrival at the site, assembling and transportation was quick and efficient. By adding wheels to longer legs, we trekked the hill with ease. The canvas cover provided sun protection allowing the team to rest in peace after we transported all of our pods to Poly Canyon.
The greatest takeaway from the design competition was not only learning to communicate with one another but enjoying the entire design/building process rather than treating it as a job.
PLACE OF MY OWN 4
Placerville, CA
CONCEPT>> Renovating our living space to accomplish the goal of interior and exterior comfort. This is the place where I grew up, and building this addition may one day become a reality...
This design project is all about renovating our home, which could include any aspect from kitchen remodeling to room additions, etc.
Growing up in 1200sq ft always felt like the perfect size, but with guests over, it could get crammed sometimes, but we always managed. It was not until my father mentioned adding an addition to the dining area that I found myself excited by the idea.
My father made some suggestions about the sizing of the space, and some of the exterior finishes; the rest was up to me. It certainly helps to be familiar with the site and what views were optimal for the structure. The space needed to feel roomy to accommodate guests. The utilization of glass gives the illusion of area while allowing for natural lighting. The facade of the original home is rectilinear, so this was also taken into account when designing the renovation.
The second story includes a master bedroom, balcony, bathroom, and workspace. The second level was also encouraged because it takes advantage of the spectacular views of the surrounding canyon. Previously, tree canopies covered these views, but this addition would resolve this issue.
This is one of many proposals. As my architectural vocabulary and experience expand, somewhere in the future, I hope to aid in overseeing as well as building this project. Because this is the place of my origin and the start of my architectural curiosity, it will no doubt become a reality.
FORM AND SPACE 5
Anywhere
Lumion Sketchup
CONCEPT>> Derived and extruded from the Hierarchy project, this project seeks to explore the various forms of space.
HIERARCHY
Rancho Cordova, CA
Revit/Autocad
CONCEPT>> All these abstract compositions originate from two points. This exercise is meant to find creative solutions to the design constraints and further develop a chosen design.
The choice of this design seemed to offer a lot of versatility and flexibility. Playing around with the line weights evolved the piece further, ultimately leading to the final product.
Thickening of the line weights adds contrast between the lines and encourages order/ hierarchy in the design. The thick border partially encloses the thinner lines, and the negative space remains balanced.
Photoshop CONCEPT>> Searching for two forms that act as ‘solid’ and ‘void.’ The two need to interact in a way that creates a dialogue between the two. The forms could be implied and are up to interpretation.
Inspiration was sparked from this repeating horizontal element somewhat resembling a comb. It was this ‘comb’ that the rest of the design revolved around.
The next problem was brainstorming how to attach this ‘comb’ element to the rest of the form. The element would be sandwiched between two blocks and serve as a nice contrast.
Overlapping the three pairs of ‘combs’ creates rhythm, pattern, and organization in the piece. Interestingly, the ‘combs’ also create cantilevers representing the form’s balance.
The void consists of only one block and an abundance of negative space while acting as an implied cube. Something void sounds minimalistic, hence the single block and few rods.
Variations of how these blocks interact also make the forms more versatile as well, with numerous orientations, each one displaying its unique qualities. These variations also encourage different shadows to be cast.
