The Prime Minister entered into this "last minute", "secret", "accommodation" agreement in a Miami hotel room with Ashcroft because the final appellate court for Belize, the CCJ, was about to deliver a stinging judgment against Dean Barrow for his unlawful taking of a private company without paying a penny for it. In essence, he chose personal self-preservation over national preservation. In this case, though, it is the Belizean people (not Dean Barrow), that pay to protect and preserve his "good name" from being "KO-ed" by the CCJ. When he came back from Miami, the Prime Minister referred to his negotiation and secret settlement
accommodation agreement with Michael Ashcroft as "FAST AND FURIOUS". But, was our very own Vin Diesel reckless in not tying up all the loose ends when he settled all things "Michael Ashcroft?” If you are entering into a Settlement Agreement with Lord Ashcroft that covers all outstanding matters, how is it that the court case in the United States was not included as part of your settlement? Did it slip the Prime Minister? And if it did slip the Prime Minister, shouldn't he be the one to personally pay for that very costly, negligent mistake? The endless litigation, it seems, continues. The budget shows the government spending $27 million on legal fees to special hand-picked private attorneys to fight these losing cases. And that's just from 2012 to 2016. Remember, these cases started from 2008. As of today, we owe in excess of $700 million to Barrow's client, Michael Ashcroft, $300 million of which is interest alone because it was dragged out for 8 years. Add the $27 million in legal fees to that and you get the true picture of who the real winners are in this Barrow bukutfest.
