SCA Girls Lead CSSSA Football
Belize City, January 27, 2016 The defending champs St Catherine Academy girls are undefeated and leading the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) girls’ football tournament, entering the playoffs with 15pts from 5 wins at the MCC Garden last Friday. Last Monday, the Ladyville Tech girls posted their 3rd win: 2-0 against the Pallotti girls when Mary Davis scored 2 goals in the 1st half. On Tuesday, the SCA girls posted their 4th win: 10-0 against Wesley College, with Charlize Hunter and Gabriela Mendoza scoring 4 goals apiece! Jodi Pott and Jayda Myvett scored a goal apiece to complete the 10-0 win.

On Wednesday, the Ladyville girls drew nil-zip with the Gwen Lizarraga High School girls. The Ladyville girls are thus the No.2 seed entering the playoffs with 10pts from 3 wins and a draw. Wesley & SJC Boys Win in CSSSA Football Playoffs Belize City, January 30, 2016 The St. John’s College and Wesley College boys both posted big wins in the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) football playoffs at the MCC Garden on Monday evening. SJC was the No.1 seed from their group, entering the playoffs against the No.4 seed from the other group: the Edward P. Yorke High School boys. Kevin Najera scored first for E.P. Yorke, but Eric Rodriguez equalized 1-1 before the half. Carlos Guerra scored SJC’s 2nd goal for the 2-1 win. Game 1, the Wesley boys relegated the Gwen Liz boys to No.2 seed in their group by a 1-0 win when Jalen Babb scored the winning goal. In game 2, the Ladyville Technical boys picked up their 3rd win: 3-0, by the Belize High School boys’ forfeit. In Game 3, SJC posted their 4th win: 6-1 against Nazarene High with goals by Shamar Gabourel, Eric Rodriguez, Carlos Pineda, Dion Cacho, Chris Herrera and Claishaun Lewis, in that order. Only Austin Dawson scored a consolation goal for Nazarene. In Game 4, the ACC boys drilled Excelsior High: 4-0 with 2 goals from Shaquile Matute, and Akeem “Bib” Sutherland and Darrel Flowers scored a goal apiece.

BDFA Interoffice Football Heats Up for Playoffs Belize City, January 19, 2016 The final week of regular season games in the Belize District Football Association’s Inter-office football competition at the MCC Garden have become crucial to determine who makes the final cut to the playoffs; with 10 teams fighting for 8 spots. Last Wednesday, the No.3 ranked Latinos FC drew 1-1 with No.10 ranked SMART when Latinos’ Heber Reyes scored the 1st goal in the 8th minute and Rashim Pitts equalized 1-1 for SMART in the 24th minute. Last Thursday, Belize Water Services – ranked at No.9 upset Belize Telemedia 4-1 with goals by Alroy Martin in the 13th minute, Ashton Lewis in the 15th minute, Delroy McCord in the 48th minute, and Ashley Hemsley in the 53rd minute. Rasheed Pollard scored BTL’s only goal in the 65th minute. In Game 2 Thursday night, National Aggregates and RF&G Insurance drew 2-2. National Aggregates’ Wendell Esquiliano scored from a set piece in the 7th minute, and Wendell converted a penalty in the 50th minute. RF&G’s Kendice “Suba” Williams and Douglas Bowen scored a penalty apiece to equalize 2-2.
