No goals in Belmopan Bandits vs. FC Belize match Belize City, September 28, 2013 In Belize City at the MCC garden, fans came away disappointed from a nil-zip draw between the defending champs of last year’s closing season the Belmopan Bandits and FC Belize. Man of the Match, FC Belize’s goalie Glenford Chimilio
stopped 2 penalty tries by the Bandits’ top striker Deon McCauley, and frustrated the best efforts of Elroy Kuylen, Dennis Serano, Jerome “Jaro” James and Deris “Columbia” Benavides, who all got off shots at goal. Even with FC Belize down to 10 men after the referee sent off George Estrada with a red card; FC’s Mark Grant, Luis Arriola and Leon “Chow” Cadle, Mark “Kelo” Leslie and Shannon Flowers played like men possessed to shut down the Bandits’ attacks, even creating scoring opportunities
for Jarret Davis, Stephen Baeza, Avian “Chi-chis” Crawford and Kevin Lino, who were denied by Belize premier goalkeeper Woodrow West. Not even the introduction of Floyd Jones, David “Mikey” Madrid and Gilbert “Hoof” Swazo in the 2nd half could not spice up the Bandits’ game, it was still nil-zip at the long whistle.
City of Belmopan, September 28, 2013 The defending champs Police United fell 1-3 to the Belize Defence Force when the Belikin Cup Premier league of Belize kicked off at the Isidoro Beaton Stadium in Belmopan last Saturday night. Andres Makin Jr. looked to give the Police a 1-0 lead in the 1st minute of play, but central referee Gerald Henry annulled the goal saying Stephen Martinez fouled BDF goalie William Johnson who was attempting to make the save. Shane “Chucky” Flores then intercepted a pass between Police midfielders Amin August Jr. and Cristobal Gilharry and set table for John “Bull” King whose left foot shot embarrassed Police goalie Jamie Brooks to give B.D.F. a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute, B.D.F. Paul Nunez almost made it 2-0 a few minutes later, but Jamie Brooks denied him with a wonderful save. Police defender Bernard Linares helped out his keeper by clearing away a header from Stephen Martinez, but Brooks Continued on page 13
